INDIA bloc urges ECI to halt Bihar voter revision, alleges flawed data and exclusion risk
At a joint press conference in Patna, leaders from Congress, RJD, CPI(ML), and CPI(M) launched a strong attack on the poll body, accusing it of conducting the revision exercise based on 'opacity' and termed it 'institutional arrogance'.
They also disputed the ECI's claim that lists of deceased and relocated voters had been shared with political parties.
In a joint statement, the opposition bloc said, 'Our apprehension is turning out to be true. We had warned that this drive would ultimately lead to the exclusion of nearly two crore people. The EC is basing voter deletions on flawed form-based data. The scrutiny is not over; more exclusions are likely in the coming month. We will go to the people on this issue. Even NDA allies are seeing their voters affected.'
Speaking at the press meet Congress Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi alleged that the exercise lacks transparency and precision. 'The entire exercise reeks of institutional arrogance. There are too many inconsistencies and no clarity. This is not a correction exercise; this is exclusion in the name of verification,' he said.

The Opposition INDIA bloc leaders have submitted a joint letter, asking for a discussion on special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday (August 1, 2025). In their letter to Mr. Birla, the Opposition MPs expressed deep concern over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, especially a few months before the state Assembly elections. Rule 267 of the Rajya Sabha pertains to the suspension of a specific rule to allow for a motion on a particular matter. 'The revision of electoral rolls has direct implications on the right to vote and the conduct of free and fair elections. A special discussion in the Lok Sabha will allow Members to seek clarity and ensure transparency and accountability,' the letter said. INDIA bloc parties have been demanding a discussion on SIR and have also staged multiple protests inside and outside Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon session. The opposition leader said they have pointed out in the notices that the exercise requires people to provide citizenship proof, which is ultra vires of the Constitution. They have also mentioned that the EC's move may potentially infringe upon rights of Parliament as Article 11 empowers Parliament to regulate the right to citizenship by law. INDIA bloc parties have been demanding a discussion on SIR and have also staged multiple protests inside and outside Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon session. New Delhi, Aug 1 (PTI) Leaders of several Opposition parties, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, on Friday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, urging him to schedule a special discussion on the ongoing voter list revision in Bihar without any further delay. In their letter to Birla, the Opposition MPs expressed deep concern over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, especially a few months before the state assembly elections.
