It's certainly not been a bad year so far for Charli XCX.The fruits of the Apple singer's labour saw her pick up five Brit awards in March.Research earlier this year showed that her songs are played 54 times a day on radio and TV here in the UK.She won her latest award for her sixth studio album Brat.
The awards are now in the their 70th year, with this ceremony taking place at Grosvenor House in London.Those behind the awards said the songwriting on the Brat album not only 'redefined the pop landscape', but also impacted the world outside the charts.It even saw the term 'brat' named as the Collins Dictionary Word of the Year.The ceremony also saw awards for rising stars Lola Young and Myles Smith.Lola Young won the rising star award, recognising the success of her breakthrough single, Messy."This is such a big moment for the kid in my bedroom that was 10 years old, writing songs on her guitar," the 24-year-old musician told the BBC.Myles Smith's Stargazing was named the most-played song on UK radio last year.What is your favourite Charli XCX song? has reportedly 'shelved her upcoming solo album' following her success on Broadway. The singer, 45, who cancelled The Pussycat Dolls reunion shows in 2022, hasn't released a solo album since her 2014 dance-pop record, Big Fat Lie, failed to chart. She was said to be working on an album in 2022 but made her debut as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard in London the following year. The show then transferred to Broadway, where it has earned her both a Tony and a Laurence Olivier Award. Nicole is said to have 'spent a fortune' on her album after being dropped from her record label in 2015. A source told The Sun: 'Things were really coming together and she was hunting for a team to release it when Sunset Boulevard came along.'
