England head coach
Brendon McCullum
has hinted that
Jofra Archer
could make a return to the Test side for the third match against India at Lord's, set to commence on Thursday. Archer, who was part of the squad for the second Test at Edgbaston but did not feature, is being considered as England look to freshen up their pace attack following a heavy 336-run defeat that levelled the series at 1-1.
'He's ready to go,' McCullum said about the express pacer, who last played a Test in February 2021. 'It's hugely exciting, he's buzzing as well. He's obviously been through his injuries and his time out of Test
cricket
, but we all know what he's capable of achieving and we hope that when the opportunity does arrive for him, he's able to recapture and improve on what he's been able to do already,' added the head coach as quoted by AFP.
The 30-year-old Archer has played just one first-class match this season, bowling 18 overs for Sussex, but remains a key weapon England are seriously considering deploying at Lord's.
India, meanwhile, have already confirmed that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will return after being rested for the second Test.
'Any attack of ours can take 20 wickets anywhere': Shubman Gill hails Mohd Siraj, Akash Deep after historic Edgbaston win
McCullum also addressed England's spin options, backing Shoaib Bashir to continue despite an expensive outing in the first two Tests, where he has taken eight wickets at an average close to 60.
'We know he's not the finished article yet, but I feel like he's getting better and better. As the series wears on, I think we'll see him play quite a big hand,' McCullum said.
Poll
Should Jofra Archer be included in the Test squad for the 3rd match against India?
Yes, he should play
No, stick to the same squad
The coach also clarified that Jacob Bethell, though a more capable batsman than Bashir, won't be considered as a spin replacement. 'He's a batting option. He's the next one in if something happens, but we don't crowbar anything.'
With three matches remaining, McCullum expressed hope for a better balance between bat and ball, after the first two Tests produced 11 centuries led by Indian captain Shubman Gill, who has already scored 585 runs in the series.

NHL blasted for 'disrespecting' Florida Panthers with early puck drop and weak opponent on 2026 Opening Night

NHL's 2026 season schedule is facing backlash from hockey fans (Getty Images) The newly announced 2026 NHL season schedule has angered hockey fans, primarily over the Florida Panthers' opening game. Many are frustrated by the champions' early start time and their matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks, feeling it reduces the two-time Stanley Cup winners. Concerns also abide regarding broadcast accessibility for games. Outrage erupts as NHL prioritizes Blackhawks over champs for prime-time spotlight Significant frustration has ignited among the devoted hockey fans due to the initial release of the NHL's 2026 season schedule. Much of the ire centers on the opening night plans, especially concerning the reigning champions, the Florida Panthers. Forward Matthew Tkachuk previously articulated his ambitions, phrasing, 'Hopefully another best year ever,' and adding, 'I don't know. I think I want to get used to this, this whole winning thing. So, I guess it starts with coming out at the start of the year again.' Yet, the league's choices for their October 7th opener have caused prevalent discontent. Fans slam early puck drop and weak opponent choice The decision to schedule the Panthers' banner-raising event and their game against the Chicago Blackhawks in an early 5 PM ET slot, rather than a prime-time slot, has drawn tremendous criticism. One upset fan @RyanWinsBets commented, 'How is the FLA vs CHI game not the prime time game? Would love to hear the reasoning.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giá vàng đang tăng mạnh trong năm 2025 — Các nhà giao dịch thông minh đã tham gia IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Another @McCant4Life echoed the sentiment, querying, 'Do we have to three-peat to get some respect around here or what? TF is that puck drop time?' Beyond the timing, the opponent choice is also a flashpoint. Many craved a more exciting contest, with one fan @TakenKhariaYa conveying, 'Who wants to see these games? Should be Florida vs Oilers on opening night, that would be something.' Fans slams the NHL (SS via Twitter) Broadcast accessibility concerns continue to haunt NHL fans Adding to these resentments are persistent worries about broadcast access, highlighted by a fan's concerned query: 'Stanley Cup champs get a 5 p.m. start time, and I'm guessing the NHL will make it hard to watch unless you have the right subscription?' This echoes prior criticisms regarding the league's complicated subscription landscape, with the Winged Wheel Podcast's Ryan Hana mourning, 'Best sport in the world and nobody can watch.' Josh Allen accused of using marriage to Hailee Steinfeld as leverage in bold demand to Bills front office

Josh Allen, fresh from his wedding, faces immense pressure to overcome his playoff struggles against Patrick Mahomes (Image via Beau Society) The pressure is mounting in Buffalo, and no one feels it more than Josh Allen. Fresh off his high-profile wedding to actress Hailee Steinfeld, the reigning NFL MVP is entering the 2025 season with sky-high expectations—and he's reportedly making bold demands behind the scenes. Josh Allen 's postseason curse against Patrick Mahomes is haunting his legacy According to multiple reports, Josh Allen has made a 'strong request' to the Buffalo Bills front office in hopes of elevating the team's offense ahead of what could be a make-or-break Super Bowl run. While the exact nature of the request remains under wraps, insiders point to Allen's urgent desire for more reliable receiving talent after back-to-back playoff heartbreaks. — jasrifootball (@jasrifootball) Allen's 0-4 playoff record against Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is becoming a defining obstacle. Despite Allen's brilliance under center, Mahomes has repeatedly shut the door on Buffalo's championship hopes. The Bills have come close, but the narrative is clear: until Allen conquers Mahomes, the Super Bowl remains out of reach. This season, however, could be different. Mahomes and the Chiefs have a less certain offensive outlook, and the AFC feels more open than in years past. Allen, entering his prime, knows time is ticking—and fans are seeing a more vocal and determined leader off the field. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gentle Japanese hair growth method for men and women's scalp Hair's Rich Learn More Undo With Stefon Diggs gone, Josh Allen may push for new weapons—like Jauan Jennings Last year, Allen lost top receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, yet still managed to lead an offense that ranked second in the NFL with 30.9 points per game. Heading into 2025, second-year receiver Keon Coleman is projected to be the top target—but that may not be enough. Rumors are swirling around San Francisco 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings, who is reportedly unhappy with his current deal and open to a trade. ESPN's Adam Schefter notes Jennings wants an extension, and if the 49ers don't deliver, 'he'd like to be traded.' Jennings recorded 975 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games last season—a breakout campaign. But acquiring Jennings won't be easy. The Bills are tight on cap space, and Jennings' projected extension—two years, $20 million—could complicate any move. Milwaukee Bucks risk losing Damian Lillard as the star now open to joining Boston Celtics after past rejection

Damian Lillard might join Boston Celtics (Image via Getty Images) When NBA icon Damian Lillard first asked the Portland Trail Blazers for a trade, it was implied that he possibly wanted to play for the Miami Heat. He was clear from the start that he had no interest in playing for the Boston Celtics. He reportedly showed no interest in joining the team during that process, which ultimately resulted in his trade to the Milwaukee Bucks. However, now the situation might change in favor of the Boston Celtics. Damian Lillard reportedly interested in Boston Celtics move as Milwaukee Bucks face uncertain offseason Damian Lillard is a remarkable player (Image via Getty Images) It was a huge surprise when the Milwaukee Bucks opted to stretch and waive Damian Lillard. In the end, the team management took a chance. However, now the situation might change as he may rejoin his former team. According to a recent Boston Herald story, Damian Lillard is "more receptive" to joining the Boston Celtics than he was in 2023, which isn't good for the Milwaukee Bucks. They wrote in their journal: 'Lastly, though Lillard reportedly is more receptive to joining Boston than he was in 2023, when the Celtics were linked to him before trading for Holiday, it's unclear where his priorities lie this offseason. The Celtics can offer Lillard a minimum contract, or a $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception if they make additional moves to dip back below the second apron of the luxury tax, which they exceeded with their recent signings of Garza and Minott. ' On the other hand, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe recently reported that the NBA player would now be amenable to joining the Boston Celtics . He wrote: 'One team Lillard has interest in joining is the Boston Celtics.. And the Celtics reportedly have shared interest in teaming up with the veteran point guard.' He continued: 'When Lillard was seeking a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers two years ago, he wasn't interested in a trade to Boston.. Now, Lillard has some interest in the Celtics, in part because of the close friendship he's built with star forward Jayson Tatum.' This isn't ideal for the Milwaukee Bucks since they don't want to lose another star player to the Boston Celtics. However, he would be a fantastic addition to his former team at a very low cost if he were even 75% of his former self.
