Moharana had sustained serious back injuries after a fall at her home in Kendrapada district's Khairabad village on Wednesday night. Initially treated at the Kendrapada district headquarters hospital, she was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where she succumbed to her injuries. She was cremated on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised Moharana's work during his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio address on Feb 26, 2023. He had taken blessings from her during a public meeting in Kendrapada on May 29, 2024. Moharana had also sent the PM a rakhi made from recycled materials last year.
