Following the Jacksonville Jaguars' first OTA practice last Monday, wide receiver Dyami Brown was one of the players who caught the attention of head coach Liam Coen.
Now, over a week later and four practices in, Brown continues to impress Coen.
"He's been great, man," Coen said on Tuesday of Brown. "He's made a lot of plays. He's been really productive throughout this whole camp so far. Showing versatility to maybe do some things that he hadn't put on tape in the past or wasn't asked to do from his skill set standpoint. I thought obviously very productive towards the halfway point of last year, into the playoffs, and then you see that confidence continuing to grow throughout this camp and this offseason."
The Jaguars signed Brown to a one-year, $10 million deal during free agency. On paper, his overall production throughout his time in Washington isn't going to leap off the page.
His most productive regular season as a pass-catcher came in 2024 when he totaled 308 receiving yards. However, as GM James Gladstone described after the addition, the Jaguars see an ascending player in Brown, who totaled 229 yards during Washington's playoff run last season, and someone who can take another step with the opportunities he can earn in Jacksonville.
Brown adds another vertical presence to the Jaguars' offense, which will help free up Brian Thomas Jr. to impact other levels of the field more often. With Brown's speed, he can also get the ball on shorter area throws in space and create chunk plays with his YAC ability.
"He's been doing a nice job of being able to run vertically but also being the nuanced route runner with some of the daggers and in-cuts and things like that," Coen added. "He's been very locked in this entire time. I've been very impressed with the pro that he is."
Of course, the caveat here is that it is still early and the pads aren't on, but Brown is off to a quick start, and that is noteworthy.

Jacksonville Jaguars' cornerback Montaric 'Buster' Brown has certainly made the most of his on-field opportunities during OTAs and minicamp over the last several weeks. It seemingly felt like every practice, there was a play or two where Brown was getting his hands on the football while in coverage to help force an incompletion. "That's who he's been every day that I've been here," Anthony Campanile said of Brown's ball production. "And I can only go by what I see every day that I'm out here, he competes. He loves to compete. Same thing like Tyson, whether it's on the line of scrimmage, he's not afraid to challenge people. To challenge people at the top of the route and play with technique, but whatever he's gotta do to strain and make the play, he's been doing that, which is awesome. That's what we've been preaching and he's doing that every day." Brown would play 855 defensive snaps last season for the Jaguars, allowing a completion rate of 69% and 11.3 yards per catch with an interception and five pass breakups, per PFF. As Campanile notes, helping Brown be sticky in coverage and in a position to make plays on the ball during these practices is his willingness to challenge wide receivers, both at the line of scrimmage and within the route. But in addition to that, Campanile's defensive scheme seems to be playing a factor as well. In this new-look Jaguars' defense, we are going to see a more vision-based approach in the secondary, which means all eyes are on the quarterback, which hopefully leads to more ball production. This also means seeing a lot more zone coverage from the Jaguars this season. The secondary as a whole, including Tyson Campbell, has acclimated well to this new play style, and it seems to fit very well with Brown's skill set. "He's got strong FBI (football intelligence), man," Liam Coen said of Brown, via Jaguars on SI. "The game makes sense to him. I think him playing in this little bit more vision on the quarterback zone is a strength of his, where he understands some concepts, he understands splits, recognition, what type of concepts are going to start to occur when 2 goes vertical or 2 goes under. He has a feel." What we know right now is that Campbell will be at one of the outside cornerback positions, and Jourdan Lewis will primarily handle the nickel responsibilities. That leaves Brown, Jarrian Jones, and Travis Hunter as options for the outside cornerback role opposite of Campbell. Come Week 1, there will, of course, be a starter on paper at that position. But in Campanile's malleable defensive scheme, where versatility is a key component, the playing time amongst those three cornerbacks could vary week-to-week depending on who the opponent is and what the matchup dictates.

Knicks reportedly set to interview Taylor Jenkins, Mike Brown to become next head coach
The Knicks are done flirting with other teams' coaches (well... probably) and have settled into focusing on coaches currently available. The Knicks are set next week to interview Taylor Jenkins (the recently-fired Memphis Grizzlies coach) and Mike Brown (a veteran NBA coach, most recently of Sacramento, where he helped them break their playoff drought), reports James Edwards III at The Athletic. However, they may not be alone, and the Knicks may not be done with coaches currently employed by other teams. The Dallas Mavericks' Jason Kidd and the Chicago Bulls' Billy Donovan are two the New York might circle back to in the coming weeks, according to league sources. The belief around the league is that Kidd and Donovan are looking for contract extensions from their current franchises, and if those don't materialize, they might be open to joining the Knicks. In addition to Jenkins and Brown interviewing next week, New York is also expected to start contacting organizations to speak with assistant head coaches about the opening, per a league source. That could open the door for New York to interview former Knicks assistant coach Johnnie Bryant, who is currently an assistant in Cleveland, was a finalist for the Phoenix Suns' job, and is a favorite with a segment of the Knicks fan base. New York fired Tom Thibodeau — who had just led the team to its first Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years — without an upgrade at coach lined up, or even a clear plan of succession in place. They reached out to five teams (that we are aware of) to inquire about their currently employed coaches, however, all five did not give New York permission to talk to those coaches. Jenkins is the winningest coach in Grizzlies history, but was fired with three weeks to go in the season. He has a good reputation around the league, which remained intact after the firing, as the team went 4-9 without him (including the playoffs). There were reports he had lost the locker room, and in particular star Ja Morant, in large part because of a change in offensive philosophy this season — one pushed by team management. Brown coached the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference Finals during the LeBron James era — where he developed ties with current Knicks power broker William 'Worldwide Wes' Wesley — as well as coaching the Lakers and Kings. He also interviewed for the Knicks job in 2020, when it went to Thibodeau. Whoever the Knicks hire as coach, they are not rushing into a deal. They will interview Jenkins and Brown, then possibly others (former Denver coach Michael Malone is out there, but league sources tell NBC Sports it's a long shot that he gets his foot in the door, he is seen as too similar to Thibodeau). They will wait to see if the situation in Dallas or Chicago changes. With no other coaching vacancies, New York is not going to lose a candidate it likes to another team.

After being selected No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL draft, the rookie two-way player is still in negotiations with the Jaguars on his rookie deal. Rapoport reported that the prolonged dialogue between he two sides should not cause Hunter to hold out. Hunter has been practicing with the team during both OTAs and this past week's mandatory minicamp. "I don't expect a holdout," Rapoport reported. "We rarely, rarely, rarely see a holdout, but I do think this will take some time. If you're talking about Jaguars fans, you're talking about Jaguars people, I don't think they have anything to worry about ause he's almost certaintly going to be participating in training camp. You'd think they will figure out a way to get it done by then." Hunter is projected to sign a four-year contract worth approximately $46 million with a signing bonus upwards of $30 million, according to Spotrac. Rapoport also said he "feels" Hunter will be the final first-rounder to sign his contract. Hunter has been impressing during practices this spring, shining at both wide receiver and cornerback. He and quarterback Travor Lawrence have been forming a strong connection during workouts this spring. In his final season at Colorado, Hunter won the Heisman Trophy while racking up a Big 12-leading 96 receptions for 1,258 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns, leading to the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver in college football. On defense, Hunter racked up 36 tackles, 11 pass breakups, four interceptions, one tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. No matter when Hunter inks his first professional contract, the two-way superstar should be must-see television during his rookie year in Jacksonville.
