Harvey Weinstein drops suit against brother Bob

Mint22-07-2025
Washington DC [US], July 22 (ANI): Former film producer Harvey Weinstein has dropped a lawsuit against his brother Bob, in which he accused his sibling of "financial betrayal" that led to the collapse of his company, according to Variety.
Weinstein is in jail awaiting sentencing after he was convicted in June of sexual assault for a third time.
In February, his lawyers filed a counterclaim in a long-dormant lawsuit that sought to blame his brother and two other employees for the collapse of the Weinstein Company.
Harvey Weinstein was exposed to dozens of sexual assault and harassment allegations in the fall of 2017, leading to his ouster from the company. Fatally wounded, the company declared bankruptcy a few months later, and its library was ultimately acquired by Lionsgate, as reported by Variety.
In the countersuit, Harvey Weinstein alleged that Bob Weinstein and David Glasser took millions of dollars in improper payments prior to the company's bankruptcy. He also accused Reiter, the company's longtime accountant, of failing to stop them.
Harvey Weinstein's lawyers filed a notice on Friday that they were dropping the case against Bob, though they are still pursuing Glasser and Reiter, reported Variety
"Harvey's filing of this notice fully resolves the claims he asserted against Bob in this case," said Bob Weinstein's lawyer, Brian Kohn. "Bob entered no settlement with Harvey and paid him no consideration in exchange for the dismissal."
Bob Weinstein loaned the company USD 11.1 million in an effort to keep it afloat before it went bankrupt. He was not repaid as part of the 2021 bankruptcy settlement.
Attorneys for Glasser and Reiter have also filed motions to dismiss the case against them, reported Variety. (ANI)

Denmark's Bestseller leads $20 mn funding for robotics innovator

American company Softwear Automation, specialised in automated garment production, secures USD 20 million in a funding round led by the family-owned fashion company BESTSELLER. While yarn production has long been fully automated, the time may now have come for RMG (ready-made garment) production. Softwear Automation, creator of autonomous 'Sewbots', secured $20 million in Series B1 funding led by Danish fashion group Bestseller via its Invest FWD platform. The investment will accelerate T-shirt sewing tech completion, scale production, and enhance R&D, supporting on-demand, localised garment manufacturing and addressing industry needs for speed, flexibility, and lower environmental impact. A pioneer in this field is Softwear Automation, a technology innovator which has developed a fully autonomous sewing solution: they are making robots that can sew clothes – called 'Sewbots'. Softwear Automation has just announced the successful close of its $20 million Series B1 funding round. The round was led by a strategic investment from BESTSELLER, the Danish fashion company behind brands such as JACK & JONES, VERO MODA, and ONLY. The investment was made through Invest FWD, BESTSELLER's dedicated innovation and investment platform. Current investors also participated in the financing. From BESTSELLER, CFO Thomas Børglum Jensen states: At BESTSELLER, we look for innovations that can support progress and changes in the fashion industry. We believe that Softwear Automation can help address some of the key challenges we face across the industry – from speed and flexibility to reducing the environmental impact of garment production. We are pleased to support their development and look forward to exploring how their advanced technology can help us move forward. Thomas Børglum Jensen CFO, BESTSELLER : As part of the collaboration between Softwear Automation and BESTSELLER, CFO Thomas Børglum Jensen, on behalf of BESTSELLER, joins the board of Softwear Automation. 'This partnership with BESTSELLER and the support from Invest FWD are not just a vote of confidence in our technology — they are a powerful catalyst for the future of on-demand and localised apparel manufacturing,' said Palaniswamy "Raj" Rajan, Chairman and CEO of Softwear Automation . The funding round aims to accelerate the completion of the robotics technology dedicated to t-shirt production, initiate the scaling of production capacity, and strengthen R&D. The investment from BESTSELLER's innovation and investment platform, Invest FWD, follows a series of other investments made by BESTSELLER in recent years. In total, BESTSELLER has invested more than DKK 200 million in innovative companies that aim to create the materials of the future and contribute to breakthroughs that can assist in the transformation of the fashion industry. A significant criterion for the investments is that they not only meet BESTSELLER's needs but also help push the entire fashion industry forward. "When it comes to transforming the fashion industry, it is necessary with a diversified focus. The fashion industry is still linear, so it is crucial for us to also invest in innovative recycling technologies that can transform the clothes we wear today into new garments for the next generation. We have been doing this for several years, and we will intensify these efforts going forward," says Dorte Rye Olsen, Head of Sustainability at BESTSELLER . Banks to clear cheques within few hours from Oct 4: RBI

Synopsis Reserve Bank of India will launch a faster cheque clearing system. This new system aims to clear cheques within hours. The current process takes up to two working days. The new system will use continuous clearing. Phase 1 starts on October 4, 2025. Phase 2 begins on January 3, 2026. Banks must inform customers about these changes. ANI Representative image. Mumbai: The RBI will introduce a new mechanism from October 4 for clearance of cheques within hours of being presented to banks, reducing the current time period of up to two working days. Cheques will be scanned, presented, and passed in a few hours and on a continuous basis during business hours. The clearing cycle will be reduced from the present T+1 days to a few hours. Cheque Truncation System (CTS) currently processes cheques with a clearing cycle of up to two working days. To improve the efficiency of cheque clearing and reduce settlement risk for participants, and to enhance customer experience, the RBI has decided to transition CTS from the current approach of batch processing to continuous clearing with 'on-realisation-settlement'. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a circular for introduction of Continuous Clearing and Settlement on Realisation in CTS. "It has been decided to transition CTS to continuous clearing and settlement on realisation in two phases. Phase 1 shall be implemented on October 4, 2025 and Phase 2 on January 3, 2026," it said. There will be a single presentation session from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Cheques received by the branches shall be scanned and sent to the clearing house by the banks immediately and continuously during the presentation session, RBI said. "For every cheque presented, the drawee bank shall generate either positive confirmation (for honoured cheques) or negative confirmation (for dishonoured cheques)," it said. During Phase 1 (from October 4, 2025 to January 2, 2026), drawee banks will be required to confirm (positively/negatively) cheques presented on them, latest by the end of the confirmation session (7:00 PM), else those will be deemed to have been approved and included for settlement. In Phase 2 (from January 3, 2026), the item expiry time of cheques shall be changed to T+3 clear hours. Giving an example, the RBI said the cheques received by drawee banks between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM will have to be confirmed positively or negatively by them by 2:00 PM (3 hours from 11:00 AM). Cheques for which confirmation is not provided by the drawee bank in the prescribed 3 hours shall be treated as deemed approved and included for settlement at 2:00 PM. RBI further said that on completion of settlement, the clearing house will release the information of positive and negative confirmations to the presenting bank. "The presenting bank shall process the same and release the payment to the customers immediately, but not later than 1 hour from successful settlement, subject to usual safeguards," it said. RBI directed banks to make their customers adequately aware of the changes in the cheque clearing process. Banks have also been asked to be in readiness to participate in continuous clearing in CTS on the prescribed dates.
