Environmental survey
Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, in cooperation with a specialised company, conducted, on Friday, a detailed environmental survey of the seabed at a vital site in Khorfakkan. This survey is a fundamental step within the framework of "Khorfakkan Reef" pilot project, with the aim of studying the effectiveness of artificial caves in providing safe and attractive habitats for marine organisms and analysing their environmental impact on the local marine ecosystem.

Enhancing marine life
Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Chairman of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, stated that the "Khorfakkan Reef" project will provide diverse environments to attract fish and enhance marine life.
Partnering with international institutions
Abu Ghazin stated that in 2024, the Authority partnered with the international contracting company, HaejooX, to study the project for a year. Following a comprehensive review of global best practices, the study analysed the effectiveness of marine reefs designed for this purpose in the Emirate of Sharjah. The study relied on advanced technologies using a 3D scanning system to understand the quantities and types of fish present, with preliminary data providing a clear comparison of the extent of future marine life expansion upon the project's completion.

SPEA honours outstanding schools in TIMSS 2023
The ceremony was held in the presence of Her Excellency Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairman of the Authority; His Excellency Ali Al Hosani, Director General of the Authority; and a number of representatives of teaching and administrative bodies and leaders of private schools. TMISS is one of the leading international initiatives that evaluate students' performance in mathematics and science, and is issued by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), with the participation of many countries with the aim of comparing education systems globally and finding ways to develop their outcomes. It is worth noting that Sharjah participation in this edition is the first as a standard emirate. Sharjah Private Schools make remarkable achievement In her speech during the ceremony, Her Excellency Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi praised the exceptional achievements of Sharjah private schools, which reflect remarkable excellence at the national and international levels. Sharjah Ruler's support to education Al Hashimi stressed that results reflect the clear impact of the support and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, praising the efforts of the wise government and officials in enhancing and developing learning outcomes. She also called for continuing to make more achievements and improve the quality of education, believing in the importance of building a creative generation capable of innovation and leadership. The ceremony was attended by HE Tuula Johanna Yrjölä, Ambassador of Finland to the UAE, who praised Sharjah's achievements in education and fruitful bilateral partnerships. The ceremony also included a presentation of the results of Sharjah schools in 'TIMSS 2023', speeches by official speakers, and a closing speech that addressed the sustainability of improving students' skills in mathematics, science, and reading. SPEA commitment to supporting Sharjah education sector The ceremony concluded with the honouring of distinguished schools by HE Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi and HE Ali Al Hosani, who affirmed the Authority's commitment to supporting the efforts to develop the education sector in the emirate in line with the wise vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. The results of the study showed the progress of Sharjah private schools, as they came in 10th place globally in mathematics and 13th place globally in science for the eighth grade out of 72 educational systems, and 28th place globally in science for the fourth grade, and 29th place globally in mathematics. Many schools also achieved advanced international rankings, as 64 schools recorded results that exceeded or equaled the international average for the fourth grade in mathematics, and 75 schools in science. While 71 schools recorded results that exceeded or equalled the international average in mathematics for the eighth grade, and 70 schools in science. The ceremony aims to honour outstanding schools and urge the educational community to achieve more excellence locally and internationally using the latest technologies to achieve global competitiveness.

Sharjah private schools' noteworthy TIMSS testing benchmarks
These achievements were highlighted in an international report presented by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) during a results forum held at the Museum of the Future in Dubai, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States. The TIMSS study, a prestigious global initiative, assesses student performance in mathematics and science to benchmark education systems worldwide and explore strategies to improve outcomes. The Sharjah private school sample included 5,567 Year 4 students from 116 schools and 4,630 Year 8 students from 108 schools across all curricula using Arabic or English as the medium of instruction. Sharjah schools ranked 29th globally in mathematics and 28th in science for Year 4 among 72 education systems. For Year 8, they achieved an impressive 10th place in mathematics and 13th in science. Notably, 51 private schools in Sharjah scored above the international average in Year 4 mathematics, with 38 exceeding the benchmark in science. For Year 8, 35 schools surpassed the international average in both subjects. Additionally, four Sharjah schools received the "Advanced International Standard" classification in Year 4 mathematics and science. Twenty schools achieved the "High International Standard" in Year 4 mathematics, while 64 schools met the "Intermediate International Standard" in Year 4 science and 54 in Year 8 mathematics. Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, expressed pride in these accomplishments, congratulating participating schools and commending the dedication of administrative and teaching staff, as well as students and their families. She attributed the success to the unwavering support of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This achievement aligns with the Authority's vision to enhance education quality and academic excellence across the emirate. Through its strategic programmes, the Authority aims to equip students with skills that meet global standards, fostering innovation and leadership, and supporting the UAE's ambitions for international competitiveness in science and mathematics.
