Two nabbed for whipping effigy of PM at rally
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the two men, aged 21 and 47, were detained yesterday.
He added that a remand order for both will be obtained to facilitate investigations.
While the statement did not name those held, Chegubard aka Badrul Hisham Shaharin's lawyer confirmed his arrest yesterday.
Earlier, acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the incident was detected via a recorded video around the Masjid Negara area.
He added that the matter was being investigated by the Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit under the Sedition Act, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Penal Code.
'A remand order will be obtained on both suspects,' he said in a statement.
The illegal use of drones during the rally was also being investigated.
'We do not allow any drones to be flown over groups of large people. Drones can be used for other purposes aside from photography, but we are concerned it could be used for sabotage,' DCP Mohamed Usuf said.

Eight held over Bukit Besi cattle theft
DUNGUN: Eight people aged 17 to 73 were arrested for allegedly stealing cattle from Ladang Pinang Mas in Bukit Besi at 2.30am today. Dungun police chief Superintendent Maizura Abdul Kadir said the suspects were caught in the act following a tip-off from the livestock owner, who lodged a report at 2am. She said the arrests were made during a joint operation involving the Criminal Investigation Department, patrol unit and Bukit Besi police station. "Following the report, we acted quickly and raided the area, arresting eight suspects aged between 17 and 73," she said. Police believe the case may be linked to other livestock thefts in the area. Cops seized 18 pieces of cattle meat, a shotgun with live ammunition, knives, meat-cutting tools, seven mobile phones and two vehicles believed to have been used to transport the stolen meat. Checks revealed the shotgun was legally owned by one of the suspects. Investigations are ongoing under the Arms Act 1960, Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 and Section 379 of the Penal Code. All suspects have been remanded. Maizura advised the public to install CCTV, ensure proper lighting in pens and conduct routine patrols to prevent theft. Licensed firearm owners were also reminded to store their weapons safely and according to legal procedures.

69-year-old man duped by fake Bank Negara officer, loses RM57,000
TANGKAK: A 69-year-old retiree lost RM57,290 after falling victim to a scammer who impersonated a Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) officer via SMS. The victim was first contacted on Aug 1 through a text message claiming urgent action was needed on his online banking account. Believing the sender to be a genuine BNM official, the victim followed instructions and unknowingly disclosed login details linked to his online banking application. District police chief Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib said once the scammer obtained access to the account, the money was siphoned off through four transactions into two suspected mule accounts. "The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction," he said in a statement today. Roslan advised the public to remain vigilant and not to respond to unsolicited messages, especially those claiming to be from banks or financial institutions. "Always verify such messages through official channels. If you suspect you have been scammed, contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) immediately at 997 to block further fund outflow," he added.
