Klopp, now serving as Red Bull's "head of global soccer," had been instrumental in bringing Jota to Liverpool in 2020, convincing the club's board to sanction a £45 million ($62 million) transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers after being impressed by the Portuguese forward's performances.

In an emotional post on Instagram, Klopp shared his grief:
"This is a moment where I struggle!" he wrote.
"There must be a bigger purpose! But I can't see it! I'm heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother Andre.
"Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father!
"We will miss you so much! All my prayers, thoughts and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends and everyone who loved them! Rest in peace -- Love."
During Jota's early days at Liverpool, Klopp had described him as an 'exceptional player, exceptional boy,' underlining the strong bond they shared.
Jota made an immediate impact after joining the Reds, becoming the first player in Liverpool's history to score in each of his first four home games. He played a crucial role in the club's 2021/22 campaign, helping them win the League Cup and FA Cup, and coming agonizingly close to a historic quadruple — narrowly missing out on the
and Champions League titles.

Brittany Mahomes gets surprise message from Baker Mayfield's wife after sending unexpected gift package
Baker Mayfield's wife sends warm response to unexpected gift from Brittany Mahomes (Getty Images) The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills might have one of the most intense rivalries on the football field, but when it comes to the women behind the athletes, the narrative shifts dramatically. Far from the drama of touchdowns and tackles, NFL WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends) are proving that camaraderie off the field runs deeper than any rivalry. Leading this unexpected bridge-building is none other than Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes. Brittany Mahomes and Baker Mayfield's wife surprise fans with wholesome NFL WAGs moment While fans at Arrowhead and Highmark Stadium might exchange heated words, Brittany is busy spreading kindness – and protein shakes. This week, a surprise gift from her to Emily Mayfield, wife of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, melted hearts and added a new layer to the NFL WAGs' growing bond. Emily took to Instagram to share the thoughtful OWYN (Only What You Need) PR package from Brittany. The gift included three OWYN Double Shot Protein Coffee Shakes, a Target gift card, a sleek tumbler, and a heartfelt typed note. 'I am so excited to share my latest obsession with you – OWYN Double Shot Protein Coffee Shakes that are now available at Target,' Brittany wrote. 'These shakes are a serious game changer for kick-starting my morning workouts or making it through the day as a busy mom. ' Baker Mayfield's wife publicly acknowledges Brittany Mahomes (Image via Instagram/emilywmayfield) The moment was captured perfectly as Emily shared a video unboxing the gift with Sammy Wilk's 'Mrs. Perfect' playing in the background, tagging both Brittany and OWYN. It wasn't just a gift—it was a gesture that reflected genuine friendship and support, transcending team loyalties. But Brittany's influence goes far beyond gifting. Her collaboration with OWYN is rooted in a deeply personal cause—her son, Bronze, has severe peanut allergies. In December 2023, Brittany and OWYN pledged $100,000 to FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education). 'I'm proud to partner with OWYN,' she said. 'This cause is near to my heart… improving the lives of 33 million Americans with food allergies.' Paige Loren, wife of Bills QB Shane Buechele, has also shown public admiration for Brittany's partnership with OWYN. She recently shared her excitement over receiving a PR box, writing, 'I'm so excited about this PR box because one, it's from my girlfriend and two, I actually introduced her to these protein shakes… Brittany loves these, they genuinely taste so good!' Brittany responded with a warm 'I love you' and a smiling emoji—proof that friendships can flourish even in the heart of a gridiron rivalry. It's a refreshing reminder that while the NFL has always been known for its on-field rivalries and dynasties—like the Cowboys' legendary run in the '90s—off the field, the game is being changed by women who are using their platforms to connect, uplift, and inspire. Whether through fitness, philanthropy, or friendship, Brittany Mahomes and her fellow NFL WAGs are proving that the most powerful plays aren't always made on Sundays. Diogo Jota's No. 20 jersey to be retired at Liverpool
Diogo Jota's No. 20 jersey at Liverpool will be retired by the club in memory of the Portuguese forward who tragically passed away in a car accident in Spain on Thursday. 'The No. 20 will be rightly immortalised for his contributions as part of Liverpool's 2024-25 title-winners – the club's 20th – with his trademark shimmy and strike in front of the Kop to seal victory in April's Merseyside derby a poignant last goal of his life,' the club announced in a tribute to its former player. Tributes from all around the football community and otherwise have poured in for the Jota, 28, and his brother Andre Silva, 26, who also passed away in the accident. Born in Porto, Jota started his playing career through Paços de Ferreira's youth setup before moving to Atlético Madrid in 2016, followed by a loan spell at Porto and a transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. But it was at Liverpool that he had his best professional stint, winning the FA Cup and League Cup under manager Jurgen Klopp before being victorious in the Premier League under Arne Slot in the 2024/25 season. He was also part of the Portugal squad that won the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025. Related Topics Diogo Jota / Liverpool
