Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said on X, 'The devastation that occurred in Dharali, Uttarkashi, is primarily due to the mistreatment of nature by some selfish individuals.
'The unfortunate incident of a cloudburst in the Dharali (Uttarkashi) region of Uttarakhand is extremely tragic and heart-wrenching. I pray to Lord Badri Vishal Ji for the well-being of the people affected by this accident,' Adityanath posted on X in Hindi.
Lucknow, Aug 5 (PTI) Top Uttar Pradesh leaders, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Tuesday expressed concern over the cloudburst in Uttarakhand and prayed for the well-being of the people of the hill state.
'Our demand is that rescue and relief operations be carried out on a war-footing and every possible effort be made to save people's lives. Every single life is precious,' Yadav said, adding, 'Environmental protection is the guarantee of life preservation.' BSP chief Mayawati said the news of widespread destruction, including the collapse of houses and hotels, as well as several people missing due to the cloudburst in the Dharali village of the Uttarkashi district is extremely sad and concerning.
'The central and state governments should promptly take action to provide all possible assistance to the victims and strengthen safety measures in such areas for the future to ensure that loss of life and property in such disasters can certainly be minimised,' Mayawati posted on X.
The Uttar Pradesh unit of Congress also took to social media to express its concern over the situation. 'The severe tragedy caused by the cloudburst in Dharali, Uttarakhand, is deeply heart wrenching,' it said on X.
'May God grant peace to the departed souls and a speedy recovery to the injured. Deepest condolences to the grieving families. It is requested from the government that relief and rescue operations be conducted with full urgency and that all possible assistance be provided to the affected families,' the Congress added.
Disaster swept through the Himalayan village of Dharali on way to Gangotri on Tuesday with a massive cloudburst leading to flashfloods that barrelled through homes, trees and cars, trapping 60-70 people and leaving at least four dead.
Dharali is the main stopover on way to Gangotri, the origin of the Ganga, and home to many hotels, restaurants and home stays. At least half the village was buried under the fast flowing mudslide of slush, rubble and water, officials said as rescue personnel battled the elements in the ecologically fragile heights to contain the damage.
Contiguous buildings, including three- and four-storey houses, fell like a pack of cards as the surging waters washed over them. The devastating flashflood came in the wake of a cloudburst somewhere in the catchment area of the Kheer Ganga river. PTI KIS MNK MNK

Trinamool Lok Sabha Leader Abhishek Banerjee meets with Speaker Om Birla, seeks discussion on SIR

Synopsis After becoming Leader of Lok Sabha for AITC in Parliament, Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee has started coordination in the floor of Lok Sabha with Congress in Parliament even as Congress submitted an adjournment motion on disrespect to Bengal and Bengali language - joins the fight with AITC on this issue. ANI Abhishek Banerjee Kolkata: The newly appointed Trinamool Lok Sabha Leader Abhishek Banerjee today met Speaker Om Birla in New Delhi and sought discussion on Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Bridging the distances with the INDIA Bloc prevailing for long, Banerjee said that he will attend the INDIA Bloc's dinner tonight. 'I had a courtesy meeting with the Lok Sabha Speaker. I have told the Speaker that we want the House to function. We have sought a discussion on the SIR. Our MPs have been giving adjournment motions for the past 4-5 days. They have demanded discussions, but the Centre is not allowing it. We have told the Speaker that if required, discuss with the Centre and then allow us to debate on SIR,' Abhishek Banerjee said. 'If the Centre does not have something to hide or fear. Then why are they evading the topic? We want the House to function but the BJP does not want it. They don't have answers, and thus they are evading the issue,' he also stated that he will go for the INDIA bloc becoming Leader of Lok Sabha for AITC in Parliament, Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee has started coordination in the floor of Lok Sabha with Congress in Parliament even as Congress submitted an adjournment motion on disrespect to Bengal and Bengali language - joins the fight with AITC on this issue, people in the know said. After Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool National General Secretary said today that the Election Commission of India is doing work which is beyond its jurisdiction. 'The ECI's responsibility begins only when the Model Code of Conduct is in place. When MCC is in place, ECI can take over the State's civil and criminal/police administrative machinery in its own hands to ensure free, fair, and impartial elections. But the work they have started for the past 3–4 months, with elections still 10–11 months away, clearly shows they will not allow an elected government to function. It has been done to give favours and advantages to the BJP,' Abhishek Banerjee is being used to see that real voters are unable to They can inform state government, which has won with huge mandate.'ECI is an impartial & unbiased organization and it has to operate while remaining within the ambit of the Indian Constitution. Yesterday, I saw a residential certificate issued in the name of Donald Trump. You should ask the Chief Election Commissioner why Donald Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on India. Or maybe, when Mr. Trump comes to cast his vote for the Bihar elections, he will be in a suitable position to answer this question,' Banerjee pointed BJP, Banerjee said, 'The Bengal government, which has been voted to power by 12 crore people in 2021, is answerable only to the people and not to any political party or the Centre. Cong engineered Sambhal killings, SP tried to cover up their sins: Yogi

MEERUT Launching a blistering attack on political adversaries, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday accused the Congress of engineering massacres in UP's Sambhal in the post-Independence era and said the Samajwadi Party, 'as a loyal disciple of Congress,' tried to cover up their sins. The chief minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 222 development projects worth ₹ 659 crore in Sambhal's Bahjoi town. (File Photo) 'Those who sinned against Sambhal will face retribution. They hid the truth of the Sambhal massacres for vote-bank politics. We are not here for appeasement — we are here to preserve our heritage,' Adityanath said at a public rally after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of 222 development projects worth ₹659 crore in the district's Bahjoi town. Adityanath described the town as a sacred symbol of Hindu faith, deeply embedded in Sanatan Dharma and ancient scriptures, asserting that those who tried to suppress this truth for political gains would face consequences for their 'sins'. He linked Sambhal to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, saying that the Skanda Purana and Vishnu Purana refer to it as the future birthplace of Lord Kalki, the final avatar of Vishnu in kalyug. He warned those attempting to rewrite history or 'malign Sanatan Dharma,' saying that such malicious conspiracies would be 'firmly crushed.' Yogi added: 'Their own backgrounds are controversial, so they see our traditions as controversial. But our legacy is not up for debate.' Adityanath delved into the town's overlooked past, claiming that Sambhal was once home to 68 pilgrimage sites, 19 sacred wells and ancient parikrama routes that were deliberately destroyed by foreign invaders. 'They desecrated our shrines and erased the truth,' he said, pledging to restore all 68 sites and 19 wells. Drawing inspiration from Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar — known for reviving temples in Kashi and Somnath — the CM promised a cultural renaissance for Sambhal. 'True development is about preserving our roots while building the future,' he said. The chief minister cited the examples of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to emphasise that religious rejuvenation and development can go hand in hand. 'If the redevelopment of Kashi and Ayodhya is possible, why not Sambhal? Why can't we restore this holy land of Lord Kalki and Harihar? That is why the government has come to you,' Adityanath said. Taking a dig at past governments, Adityanath accused them of enabling lawlessness and mafia raj. 'Girls were unsafe, traders lived in fear. Today, the only ones insecure are rioters. Mahakal is now delivering justice,' he said. Tensions flared in Sambhal last year when a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid here was carried out following claims that a Harihar temple previously stood at the site. Days later, during a second round of the survey, protesting locals clashed with security personnel, which led to the death of four people and injuries to dozens. He emphasised that under his government, 8.5 lakh youth have received jobs in eight years, including 60,200 recent police recruits. He contrasted this with previous regimes, saying: 'They nurtured one mafia per district. We promote 'One District, One Product.' The 222 projects inaugurated/launched span sectors such as education, roads, vocational training, clean drinking water, anganwadi centres and school infrastructure. The CM also laid the foundation stone for the new district magistrate office and integrated residential complexes, participating in Vedic rituals. Highlighting the government's commitment to inclusive growth, the CM distributed cheques, house keys and certificates to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. He also launched the 'Sambhal Samvad' mobile app for better citizen engagement. In a symbolic gesture, the chief minister performed the traditional 'Annaprashan' ceremony for infants and planted saplings to promote environmental awareness. He inspected archaeological relics unearthed in Sambhal, further underlining the region's historical importance. Wrapping up his address, Adityanath praised the courage of Sambhal's people who, he said, never bowed to rioters. He invoked upcoming national and religious events — Raksha Bandhan, Kakori Memorial Day, Independence Day and Janmashtami — urging citizens to hoist the Tricolour and uphold national pride. 'The projects we launched today are just a glimpse,' he said. 'The double-engine government will ensure both the preservation of Sambhal's glorious past and the building of its bright future.'
