Influencer couple die in off-road accident while traveling through wilderness

Daily Mail2 days ago
A Canadian influencer couple who shared their expansive off-roading adventures online have died in a horror crash while driving through rugged terrain.
Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans, the pair behind the Toyota World Runners YouTube channel, died on August 7 in the mountainous region near to Trout Lake in British Columbia.
The pair had over 200,000 subscribers and more than 72,000 Instagram followers who they kept updated on their explorations through North and South America.
As confirmed by Stacey's mother in a heartbreaking social media post, Stacey and Matthew died together in an off-road accident 'in the beautiful mountains of British Columbia that they loved so much.'
Collen Tourot wrote: 'Please keep us and them in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this devastating end to an amazing Love Story.'
Stacey and Mathew's claim to fame was building the 'world's first Land Cruiser Chinook in 100 days,' according to their YouTube bio.
The custom vehicle combines the body of a Toyota Chinook camper and a Toyota Land Cruiser to essentially create the perfect camper for off-roading.
It is unclear if the couple were driving the Land Cruiser when the fatal crash occurred.
While the cause of the incident is unconfirmed, Mark Jennings-Bates of Kaslo Search and Rescue (SAR), told CBC that they likely lost control of their vehicle on the rocky route.
He was also unsure if they were filming their trip when the accident occurred.
The search and rescue team was alerted that there was an alarming incident at around 7:30pm on the day Stacey and Matthew died.
Jennings-Bates said 'teams were able to get to them efficiently' and one of the victims was found dead on site.
The other was transported to the hospital, where they later succumbed to their critical injuries.
In light of the devastating loss to their loved ones and the international online community they have built, social media has been flooded with heartfelt tributes, remembering the ambitious duo.
Shaun, the creator behind The Story Till Now YouTube channel, wrote: 'They were so young and full of life, so talented, and this is a huge loss for our off-road community, their friends and family, and the world.'
He explained that while he never met them in person, he often spoke with Matthew on the phone.
Shaun revealed that the last time he had spoken to Matthew was the day before he and his fiancee died. Shaun's jeep broke down, and he was 'trying to figure out how to get it home.'
He continued: 'We joked about how we would have finally met up the next day if not for my Jeep breaking down, but talked about getting some firm plans on the books for a trip next month.
'They tragically passed away that very next day in an accident, and I'm just devastated over it.'
Another off-roading creator, Colin Stuart who runs the Dirt Theory channel, said he was with the couple when the horror unfolded.
On Facebook, he wrote: 'I was with them when it happened and did everything in my power to save them.
'Those were the hardest 20 hours I have ever lived. The hardest decisions I have ever had to make.
'I'm sorry to all that this has affected. This is a big loss for the off road community and a bigger loss to Matthew's and Stacey's family and close friends.'
In a tear-jerking obituary written for the couple, they were described as the 'heart and soul' of the off-roading community.
Amid this harrowing tragedy, Jennings-Bates has warned people to proceed with caution when it comes to off-roading.
Speaking to CBC, he said: 'You're not on a highway, you don't need to wear a seatbelt, but it's always good to use the safety devices that are built into the equipment to help protect you as well.'

Fans furious as rap legend's concert is cancelled last minute

Lil Wayne's concert at Toronto's Budweiser Stage on Monday, 11 August, was cancelled hours before it was due to begin, citing unforeseen illness. Fans, many of whom had already entered the venue, expressed significant anger and frustration on social media over the short notice of the postponement. A message displayed at the venue and posted online stated that all previously purchased tickets would be honored for a new date, which is yet to be announced. Disappointed attendees highlighted concerns about wasted travel, childcare costs, and the need for clear refund policies for postponed events. Earlier this year, allegations of physical and emotional abuse were made against Lil Wayne by his on-and-off girlfriend, Denise Bidot.

TOWIE star Clelia Theodorou bravely shows her scars two years after breaking her legs in horror car crash which killed her beloved mother

Clelia Theodorou bravely showed her scars two years after being in a horror car crash. The former TOWIE star, 30, whose mother was tragically killed in the terrifying accident, suffered broken legs and feet which left her hospitalised in May 2023. Two years on, Clelia took to Instagram to share a heartfelt post with her followers. In the snaps, Clelia wore a chic white mini dress as she enjoyed a trip to the park with her daughter Cielo, who she shared with fiancée Tommy Cole. She penned: 'I'm really nervous to post this picture as I've been holding off posting anything showing my scars. I want to be completely honest, because as much as I'd love to say its fine and I'm getting on with it, it hasn't been fine and a lot I've had to work through physically and emotionally. 'My body changed overnight and with each surgery has changed further which has been hard to come to terms with. Its only been in the last few weeks I've actually braved having my legs out at all (that and this scorching heatwave). 'I have around 12 scars in total and I think it's time to just brave it and share them, because as much as they affect me I am walking again, able to have lovely trips to the park with Cici and start living again. All of which seemed impossible at one point but here we are walking around the park hand in hand, making memories. 'There's no making the scars disappear, and it's a lot of changes I'm trying to come to accept day by day. Some days are really hard, some days are easier.' She finished by saying: 'Trauma changes you both inside and out there's no denying that, but I want to be as transparent as possible with my on going recovery and how I feel and let you guys know its okay not to feel okay every day but good days like this are also round the corner.' It comes just months after Clelia shared a heartbreaking tribute to her late mum Gill on Mother's Day, two years after she was killed in the horror car crash. The reality star shared a poignant message admitting 'life isn't the same without you here' and her heart 'will ache forever'. The heart-wrenching caption was accompanied by a slew of black and white snaps to celebrate the special day, with one showing a little Clelia happily hugging her mum. In the same emotional Instagram post shared on Sunday, Clelia also showed gratefulness for her daughter Cielo, two, whom she called her 'greatest achievement'. She posted a throwback snap cradling the newborn, while others showed her sweetly sleeping next to the tiny tot as she kissed her. She penned: 'I'm really nervous to post this picture as I've been holding off posting anything showing my scars' 'My greatest achievement, my reason for everything thank you for making me a mum, my favourite chapter Cielo you are everything & more of what I ever dreamt you'd be,' she wrote emotionally. Remembering her beloved late, she continued: 'My beautiful muma, life isn't the same without you here. 'I miss you more each day, time isn't making it easier it's showing me more of what your missing my heart will ache forever 'Happy Mothers Day to all your incredible muma's.' Just earlier last week, Clelia revealed she was forced to undergo further surgery, two years after being left with 'serious injuries' from the horror car crash. Clelia took to her Instagram stories with snaps from her hospital bed while wired up to a drip ahead of her legs, which were both broken in the devastating 2023 accident, being operated on. The reality star, who welcomed daughter Cielo with fiancé Tommy Cole just seven months after the accident, told followers: 'Longest day ever, can't wait to go home to my babies'. She later reassured fans saying: 'I had another surgery today guys. Not an emergency or anything. Thank you for checking in'. Clelia then returned home and shared a snap of her bandaged foot following surgery which she pixilated, writing: 'Thank you for your well wishes,' Before adding: 'You guys are so lovely. At home and dosed up on painkillers'. Last year Clelia admitted that she may never have the strength to share exactly what happened in the horror crash. In an Instagram Q&A she shared harrowing pictures of her in hospital in recovery and told how it is still too 'raw' to discuss details of the accident. One fan asked her: 'Will you ever talk about your accident and what happened?', to which she replied: 'I'm not sure. I find it very hard to talk about. 'Maybe in the future I will but it's still really raw. Family and friends that know everything I can talk to, but talking about it to someone new and reliving it is so difficult.'

Keating family left with ‘unanswered questions' in justice system

Singer Ronan Keating said his family is left with 'unanswered questions' about investigatory and judicial processes following the death of his brother in a crash. Ciaran Keating, who was the older brother of the former Boyzone singer, died in a car crash in Co Mayo in July 2023. His wife Annemarie was also seriously injured in the crash. Advertisement Dean Harte, 22, from Tyrellspass in Westmeath, collided with Mr Keating's car while driving near Swinford in July 2023. He was given a 17-month suspended sentence at Castlebar Circuit Court in Mayo in February after he pleaded guilty to careless driving causing death, the Courts Service said. On the day of the crash, Ciaran and Annemarie had been travelling to watch their son play in a football match for Cork City in Sligo. Ronan helped carry the coffin of his brother Ciaran during his funeral in Louisburgh in July 2023. Advertisement Speaking about his brother's death on RTÉ's Drivetime on Wednesday, he said: 'You can't really put it into words, a situation like this, how it can tear a family apart. 'I remember getting the call from my sister Linda, and to hear her voice on the phone, to hear her screams on the phone, is something I can never forget. It will be forever etched in my brain, in my mind. 'What happened to Ciaran, the injustice, the heartbreak, the devastating impact it has, and not just on Ciaran's siblings, but on his children, his grandchildren, his wife. 'The ripples, it's overwhelming. As a family, you find it hard to breathe sometimes. Advertisement 'You have to shut it out. You have to block it because it's hard to get through your day. It's hard to put one foot in front of the other.' Ronan Keating spoke about the death of his brother and how it has impacted their family (Oliver McVeigh/PA) He added: 'You fill your day with things to, you know, things to take your mind off it. And he was my brother. He wasn't my dad, and he wasn't my granddad, you know. So what those kids have to go through is far, far harder than what we're going through as his siblings.' On the same programme, Ciaran's son Conall described his father as a 'hero' and 'mentor'. 'He was kind, gentle, proud man. Loved his family, loved his friends. Advertisement 'There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him or see him in things that I do, and I'd give anything just to have another day with him.' Conall said his own children keep asking 'when is pap coming back?' all the time. Ciaran's brother Gerard said his confidence in the investigatory system was 'rocked' after he found an impacted door of the car in a ditch 10 metres from the crash site two days later. Ronan Keating said the discovery of the door should have been made by An Garda Síochána. Advertisement 'There are many questions, many questions. We have so many questions, but we're just a family. 'We're just another family that have been scarred by this broken system. 'Ger went there and was doing a job that the police force here in Ireland should be doing. It should have been covered with a fine-tooth comb.' Gerard Keating also told the programme that he was left with questions in the judicial system, adding that the family was 'scarred'. In relation to the suspended sentence handed to Harte, Ronan Keating said: 'All of the pain and the hurt is in losing somebody. This is just disgusting. It's awful – this situation.' He added: 'You can't get angry. You're floored. You're disappointed. The system is broken. 'As a family, we don't want to send some 22-year-old kid to jail. We don't want to see some kid go to jail whose life is going to be thrown away. That's not what we're looking for. 'But what we're looking for is to make sure somebody else doesn't die because of careless driving. That some other family's life is not going to be ripped apart.' Conall Keating said he would like to see 'credible deterrents' for drivers against careless and dangerous driving, adding that Ireland could 'pioneer' solutions around tracking speeding and phone use within cars. Asked if he still believed the justice system was broken, Ronan Keating said the family had not seen any evidence of change since the sentencing. 'It's up to us now, the family, to try to do something about it. We won't let this lie.'
