Hollywood star Saoirse Ronan 'expecting first child' with Scots actor Jack Lowden
The Brooklyn actress, who married actor Jack Lowden last year, appeared to confirm her baby news on the red carpet.
Hollywood star Saoirse Ronan is reportedly expecting her first child with Scots actor Jack Lowden. The four-time Oscar nominee, 31, appeared to confirm the exciting news on the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival.
The Outrun actress showed off her blossoming baby bump in a sheer black gown while posing for photographs at the Louis Vuitton Women's Cruise 2026 show on Friday May 23, according to the Irish Independent.
Saoirse wore a strapped black silk dress, which featured sophisticated lace detailing across the chest. Saoirse had her first breakout role in Atonement where she starred alongside James McAvoy and Kiera Knightley in 2007.
The talent married BAFTA-winner Jack, 34, who grew up in the Scottish Borders, in a secret Edinburgh ceremony last year. The intimate function included only a few select friends and family members.
The pair were first romantically linked after starring in Mary Queen of Scots in 2018. Saoirse played Mary while Jack played Lord Darnley, Mary's second husband, but the duo have remained private about their personal lives.
However, speaking to British Vogue last year, Saoirse said she had "always wanted" to marry and have children alongside her career.
"I became successful when I was quite young, she explained. "So it meant that, actually, by the time I found my partner, I'm now at the stage where if it happened, I would like to have a kid.
"I feel fortunate enough that if I step out of this for a minute, I'm hopefully not giving it up forever.
"But, yeah, I've always wanted that."
The couple produced the 2024 film adaptation of The Outrun where Saoirse played Rona, a Scottish woman who returns to her roots on the Orkney Islands after rehab in an evocative tale of battling addiction.
Saoirse described her husband as "a lot calmer" than she is as a collaborator.
"He's my voice of reason," she told USA Today. "But as a duo, we've both been on film sets our whole lives, so we have an appreciation of what we're asking actors to do. We always want them to feel safe."
On whether the pair would appear on screens together again, she said: "Jack didn't want to for a long time, but I've now convinced him that's a great idea. I'd really like to do something together on stage."

Fellow actor Jack grew up in the Scottish Borders and attended Scottish Youth Theatre in Edinburgh where he fell in love with the art. Earlier this year, there was even speculation he could be in line to take over as James Bond.

A special segment was then aired, with Michael's son, Dr Jack Mosley, explaining how he planned to follow in his father's footsteps. "My dad was so passionate about healthy living, and his infectious enthusiasm was part of what made him so popular," Jack reflected. Discussing the aftermath of his father's death, Jack continued: "It was such a sudden thing when dad did pass away. It has been difficult for my siblings and I, my mum. The only positive I can think to come out of it is it has brought us closer together as a family, and that's something that he would have liked to see." Michael's spouse Clare, also a medic by profession, conveyed how the outpouring of public sympathy has provided her immense solace during this hard time. She then took cameras into the cupboard where Michael used to record his podcast, Just One Thing, and revealed that she "can't quite bring herself" to take down the podcast's poster. Now, Jack has written a book on weight loss medication and food nutrition, called Food Noise. He has worked closely with his mum, who has created over 50 healthy recipes for the book. Jack concluded: "To continue on some of these really important messages about healthy eating and lifestyle changes is something that was very important to my dad. I do want to continue that mission." Back in the BBC studio, Alex reflected: "It's hard to believe it's been a year... Our thoughts, of course, are with the whole family at this time." Las Vegas remains a top choice for Scottish couples eager to say "I do," whether they prefer the charm of Elvis officiants or the spectacle of the Bellagio Fountains. New research from reveals that residents of smaller and medium-sized Scottish towns are more likely to jet off to the 'Marriage Capital of the World' to tie the knot and create lasting memories. Bathgate in West Lothian leads the way, boasting the highest rate of Vegas weddings with 93.22 marriages per 100,000 people over the past decade. It is followed closely by Motherwell with 90.82 marriages per 100,000 and Wishaw at 66.2 per 100,000, Scottish Daily Express reports. A spokesman for explained, 'This figure puts Bathgate ahead of larger cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness. "While larger cities like London and Manchester account for higher total numbers of Las Vegas weddings (1,923 and 642, respectively), the per capita data reveals which smaller towns are proportionally more inclined to elope in America's marriage capital.' The study, conducted by the world's leading guide for online casinos, analysed ten years of marriage licence records from Clark County to uncover which British towns and cities have been heading to Las Vegas for their big day and celebration. Between 2015 and 2024, 2,660 Scottish couples married in Vegas, though numbers dropped sharply during the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021. He told listeners in an emotional announcement during his live show on Thursday evening. He said: "I've experienced the most incredible care and kindness from the NHS staff who have been looking after me. "My surgeon is a Get it On listener so I know I'm in good hands. "I will really miss the music and the chat when I'm off but our listeners have given me hundreds of great playlists so that will keep me going over the next few months. "I want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to all my brilliant producers for all the hand holding and all the encouragement they've given me since they found out my news. "I'm sure they'll let you know how I'm doing over the next few weeks."
