CAROLINE GRAHAM: She was so kind to me at my lowest point - so I'm delighted that tortured Versace heiress Allegra has never looked better
But these are the first pictures of billionaire heiress Allegra Versace in more than three years – and show how the shy heir to one of fashion's biggest fortunes has seemingly put her demons to rest.
Allegra, 39, is the daughter of Donatella Versace, who announced earlier this year that she is stepping down as the luxury brand's chief creative officer after nearly 30 years in the role. The company has announced it is in the process of being taken over by rival Prada in a £1.08billion deal.
For Allegra, photographed last week in the picturesque Italian fishing village of Portofino alongside a man who appeared to be her bodyguard, inheriting 50 per cent of Versace when her uncle Gianni was brutally gunned down in 1997 proved to be a poisoned chalice.
The spotlight it shone on her – she is now worth a reported £1.1billion – caused a spiral into an eating disorder which, at its worst, saw her in hospital weighing less than five stone.
Allegra was 11 years old when Gianni was brutally slain in Miami by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, a murder that stunned Versace family friends like Princess Diana, Madonna and Elton John and spawned a slew of books and shows including The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, which drew record viewing figures.
Her mother would later recall the impact her brother's murder had on the child Gianni called 'my little princess'.
Donatella said: 'Gianni was murdered in July and Allegra stopped eating in September.'
By the time she was 20 and studying drama, art history and French at UCLA in Los Angeles, her mother and father, former model Paul Beck (who divorced Donatella when Allegra was 14), released a joint statement saying: 'Our daughter Allegra has been battling anorexia, a very serious disease, for many years. She is receiving the best medical care possible to help overcome the illness and is responding well.'
Seeing the pictures of a happy and healthy Allegra last week brought back my own memories of a sensitive young woman who showed me extraordinary kindness at one of the lowest points in my life.
In 2007 I was being treated for stage three colon cancer at UCLA Medical Centre and would roam the corridors, pushing my IV pole full of morphine and a cocktail of other drugs.
I would often notice a painfully thin young woman also pushing an IV pole, hers holding a bag of what looked like liquid nutrients which went into a feeding tube.
We would strike up conversations, mostly about the types of things patients discuss in hospital: What are you being treated for? How long have you been in here? Have you watched any decent TV shows recently?
The soft-spoken girl introduced herself as 'Allegra' but the penny did not drop.
It was only when a 'vision' appeared stomping down the corridor towards me – a woman with long blonde hair wearing tight leather trousers and vertiginous heels – that I thought: 'I must be hallucinating from the morphine because that looks like Donatella Versace.'
The Versace name was iconic. Elizabeth Hurley's 'safety-pin dress' at the premiere of Four Weddings And A Funeral had put the design house on front pages worldwide and Gianni's murder made the name infamous.
Allegra was portrayed in stories as a 'poor little rich girl heiress' and was rarely seen in public, preferring to remain behind the gold-leaf gates of the Milan mansion where she was raised – or surrounded by guards at one of the other Versace homes, including a sprawling villa on the edge of Lake Como.
As Donatella walked past me I saw her go to a room at the end of a long hospital corridor. A massive armed bodyguard stood outside.
And I realised who the young woman I'd befriended was.
Later that day Allegra appeared in my room with a stack of glossy fashion magazines, including Italian Vogue. I told her I'd seen her mother earlier and she smiled and said: 'Ah, yes, isn't she something? She's a force of nature.'
I was struck by how sweet Allegra was. I had just turned 40, twice her age, but she exuded kindness, stopping by regularly to see how I was doing, chatting to my mother, bringing gifts of flowers and even more magazines.
Before long I was on my way home to begin the next stage in my cancer journey. Hugging her goodbye, I remember being shocked by how thin she was under her baggy sweatshirt. Over the years, I often wondered how she was getting on.
In 2011, Allegra gave a rare interview to Italy's La Repubblica newspaper, saying she preferred to stay out of the limelight: 'I've spent time working with a non-Italian designer, helping him organise fashion shows, the advertising, also helping with the creative part. The great part about this work is that I am no one. I think you can get used to everything, if you feel free, if you are yourself and not what others want you to be.'
Discussing her well-publicised battle with anorexia, Allegra said: 'I was lost in other thoughts and couldn't confront reality with my eyes shielded from everything. Above all, I wanted one thing – to be no one, to not be recognised, not be hunted down.'
In 2016 she attended the Met Gala in New York alongside her mother and Lady Gaga, telling reporters: 'Unlike my mother, I hate celebrity.'
She became a billionaire in 2018 when the Versace family (her mother and surviving uncle Santo owned the other 50 per cent) sold their shares to Capri Holdings, which also owns Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo.
Donatella and Allegra remained on the board of the company. With the impending sale of Capri Holdings to Prada it is not known how closely the Versace family will be involved in day-to-day activities, but Donatella will remain a brand ambassador.
Little is known about Allegra's private life. She has never been photographed with a romantic partner.
But judging by the way she looks in these new pictures it seems she is now at a positive place in life and has found the peace she always craved.

Lauren Sanchez struggles to keep her footing during double dinner date with husband Jeff Bezos as pair are joined by Leonardo DiCaprio and Vittoria amid $485m superyacht holiday
was determined not to let the terrain dictate her style choices as she appeared to struggle to keep her footing on the rocky shore of Ibiza on Sunday night. The former journalist, 55, and her husband Jeff Bezos, who married in a lavish wedding in June, were seen disembarking from their $485 million superyacht in Spain. However despite the uneven terrain, Lauren didn't forgo her stiletto heels as she clung to Jeff's hand. Joined by Leonardo DiCaprio and his girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, Lauren oozed style in a cream summer mini dress which she paired with the nude heels. She accessorised the look with a matching cream bag and dark shades as she made it onto land. Meanwhile her husband, 61, kept it simple in a white polo shirt, grey trousers and white trainers, slightly more apt for the rocky shore. Yet DiCaprio's girlfriend also joined Lauren in her choice of heels as she was seen teetering in a black pair of kitten heels. The Italian model, 27, kept it simple in a black vest top and low waisted black skirt with mesh detailing. Pairing the look with a small black bag, she held hands with the Hollywood actor, 50, also wore all black. Leonardo appeared to wish to keep a low profile as he concealed his face with a black facemask and baseball cap. The foursome were also joined by the former editor-in-chief at British Vogue, Edward Enninful. The gang made their way for their Italian-influenced, contemporary Mediterranean stylish dinner at Amalur Ibiza. Jeff and Lauren were previously seen welcoming Leo and Vittoria aboard their superyacht, Koru, earlier in the day on Sunday. The pair know their way around the ship, having previously joined the couple and bevy of stars for a trip last summer in Sardinia. Jeff was seen waving as he walked along the shore The group came to shore in a smaller boat after departing their yacht This time, however, the quartet were living it up in Ibiza. They were casually clad for the day at sea, with Leonardo sporting a plain white T-shirt and shorts, as well as his trademark baseball cap and shades. Vittoria's model figure was on display in a blue strapless top that she paired with black yoga pants. Meanwhile Jeff and Lauren opted for clashing prints, with Lauren layering a printed kimono over a bikini while Jeff wore tropical swimming trunks with a navy T-shirt. The double date comes just weeks after the Amazon founder and presenter tied the knot in Venice - with the ceremony attracting criticism for its extravagance. Leonardo and Vittoria were among the VIP guests in attendance, which also included Sydney Sweeney, Oprah Winfrey and Orlando Bloom. Yet Leonardo faced a backlash, with the Hollywood star - who is known for his environmental advocacy - branded a 'hypocrite' for flying to Venice for the ceremony. The Titanic star has previously been open about his activism and a few months earlier in March, he slammed the Albanese government for giving the green light to a mine expansion in Western Australia. Yet DiCaprio's girlfriend also joined Lauren in her choice of heels as she was seen teetering in a black pair of kitten heels The Italian model, 27, kept it simple in a black vest top and low waisted black skirt with mesh detailing The star wore her long brunette locks loose over her shoulders Yet social media users called out DiCaprio for flying to the wedding and slammed him for supporting Jeff amid Amazon's substantial carbon footprint. According to The Guardian, over 90 jets flew into the airport in the romantic city as celebrities attended the nuptials. It is not known if Leonardo took a private jet to the ceremony. Jeff and Lauren's wedding reportedly cost some $40million - which also faced protests in the city of Venice. Now Lauren wears a $5million diamond wedding ring that has fans as well as jewelers in an uproar. One of their A-list wedding guests recently revealed what their lavish nuptials were really like as they disclosed that none of the Bezos couple's 200 guests were told to sign non-disclosure agreements. Sara Foster, the daughter of composer David Foster, shared details about the glamorous Venetian wedding on Thursday's episode of her The World's First Podcast. While talking to her sister Erin, she surprisingly revealed: 'No one signed NDAs. No NDAs.' Jeff and Lauren's wedding reportedly cost some $40million - which also faced protests in the city of Venice The pair looked the epitome of glamour Lauren wowed in the dress which clung to her incredible figure Lauren put on a very busty display in the plunging dress Edward was seen relaxing next to Leo The group chatted together ahead of the dinner date She also said that the ceremony was 'very intimate' when asked to dish on the 'wedding of the century.' 'There's nothing. It's so interesting how the optics were this over-the-top, you know, protestors... It's just not, it's not what it was. It actually felt very intimate.' She also revealed that there were 'definitely a lot of people that were not photographed' but chose to keep mum on the identities of the low-key attendees. 'I can't. I mean, that's, like, so lame. I'm not gonna do that. But it's very interesting how many people went un-photographed. It was definitely a very interesting set-up.' The wedding festivities spanned three days, with the event kicking off with a foam party on their boa t. The couple partied off the island of Cres in Croatia in a final pitstop before arriving in Italy for their long-awaited wedding. Jeff's superyacht is named the Koru, which translates to 'new beginnings' in Maori, according to The Independent. The Amazon founder initially commissioned the construction of the vessel for $485million in 2018, and it took almost five years to build. The Koru has three decks and is 250-feet tall, marking the world's tallest sailing yacht. The double date comes just weeks after Jeff, 61, and Lauren, 55, tied the knot in Venice — with the ceremony attracting criticism for its extravagance Boat International reported in April 2023 that it has a trio of masts that measure at a distance eclipsing 230 feet. It measures at a width of 416 feet, only one of four yachts globally that eclipses the length of 328 feet. The vessel was made by the Dutch company Oceano. The boat was the topic of controversy in February 2022 when Oceano asked Rotterdam to take apart a bridge that is more than 100 years old, the Koningshaven Bridge, to accommodate the masts of the Koru. Amid local protests, Oceanco made alternate plans to install the masts.

Miley Cyrus goes NUDE for Perfect magazine cover... and reveals how it feels being in her birthday suit
Miley Cyrus is shedding layers for the upcoming issue of Perfect magazine. The star, 32, went completely nude as she fronted the zine with just a single hand (and strategically-cropped photo) protecting her modesty. Miley shot the camera with a smoldering gaze as she rested one hand atop her bare breast, her long hair cascading down in glossy waves. The issue has yet to be released but Perfect provided a sneak peek of Miley's interview on their Instagram - with one describing the 'power' she feels when in her birthday suit. 'Even if I'm wearing nothing, there still feels like a level of power to it,' Miley - who also recently stripped down to her lingerie for a music video with Naomi Campbell - is quoted as saying. While it is one of three covers Miley fronts for Perfect's upcoming fourth issue, it is arguably the magazine's most striking due to her daring pose. Another cover sees Miley draped in an elegant gown from Sofia Coppola's 2005 Marie Antoinette film - but with a modern twist. Paired with sneakers, Miley is adorned in the opulent Victorian frock with a feathered hat casually tied around her head. 'I feel like right now I'm in that kind of God pocket: everything is just flowing and there's a real harmonious relationship between me and what I'm wearing. It still feels like skin. I don't feel like it ever overpowers. I don't feel like it's wearing me,' she says in a quote accompanying this particular image. A third cover offers a more intimate view of Miley as she piles her hair atop her head, her toned physique clad in a busty blue top with satin taupe ribbons. She speaks about the power of fashion in an accompanying quote, reflecting on the glittering Bob Mackie dress she wore to the Grammy Awards last year. 'In a moment like the Grammys - where it's really high intensity, I'm nervous and there's a lot at stake - I know that that Bob Mackie dress is speaking to the crowd before I even say a word. I definitely use it, almost like a co-star.' Miley won two of the six Grammy Awards she was nominated for last year - Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, both for Flowers. Prior to becoming the superstar she is known as today, the daughter of Achy Breaky Heart singer Billy Ray Cyrus started her entertainment career as the star of Disney's Hannah Montana series. The show, which debuted in 2006 and ended in 2011, will be celebrating it's 20th anniversary next year. Recently the star said she is hoping to 'design something really, really special' for the occasion. 'It's about to be the 20 year Hannah-versary! In March!' she said on SiriusXM's TikTok Radio. 'I want to design something really, really special for it, because it really was the beginning of all of this, that now sits here today. 'Really, without Hannah, there really wouldn't be this kind of… this me. It's so crazy to think too that I started as a character that I thought was going to be impossible to shed. 'And now that's something that when I walk into a space, it's looked at as this sense of kind of like nostalgia or something that you have from your childhood, but I've now been as kind of integrated into everyone's life as the character itself, so that's exciting to get to celebrate that.'
