Over 950,000 Singaporean households to get U-Save, S&CC rebates in July
SINGAPORE - Close to a million Singaporean HDB households will receive rebates to their utility and conservancy bills in July , as part of a government scheme to help them with cost of living.
Depending on their HDB flat type, eligible households will receive up to $190 in U-Save for their utility bills, and a maximum of a month of rebates for their service and conservancy charges (S&CC), t he Ministry of Finance said in a statement on June 30.
For example, people living in a four-room flat will get $150 and half a month respectively in rebates for their U-Save and S&CC.
Those in one- and two-room flats will get $190 and a month respectively.
The utility and S&CC rebates will be automatically credited to the eligible household's accounts with grid operator SP Services and the town councils, respectively.
These rebates are part of a permanent GST Voucher scheme and the enhanced Assurance Package to help lower- and middle-income households cope with the increasing cost of living and increase Goods and Services Tax.
They are disbursed every three months - in April, July, October and January - each year.
In total, eligible Singaporean HDB households will receive up to $760 of U-Save rebates in fiscal year 2025 .
Meanwhile, eligible households can expect to receive a total of up to 3.5 months of S&CC rebates in fiscal year 2025.

Motorists can now get flash flood alerts on ERP on-board unit

The new feature adds to other real-time information available on the OBU. ST PHOTO: KUA CHEE SIONG Motorists can now get flash flood alerts on ERP on-board unit SINGAPORE - Motorists who have the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) on-board units (OBUs) in their vehicles will now receive alerts about flash floods when approaching or travelling along affected roads. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced this in a Facebook post on June 30, adding that this feature will allow motorists to 'take alternative routes'. The new feature adds to other real-time information available on the OBU, including parking availability in certain areas, bus lane operations and alerts on speed cameras. Motorists said they welcome the new feature. 'I think it'll be pretty helpful information. I'll try to avoid that road if I see such warnings. Since it's so convenient to look at the OBU screen while driving, any information it can provide to me is an added bonus,' account manager Jerome Lim, 35, told The Straits Times . Mr Matthew Tan, 24, an executive, said: 'It will be good to have alerts that warn me of a flash flood, especially if I'm driving on my normal route without using GPS apps. I hope that the alerts will sound out early enough so I can make the necessary detours.' Flood alerts are also available on the myENV app and PUB's Flood Alerts Telegram channel. The next-generation satellite-based ERP system that comes with the OBU is also capable of charging motorists based on distance travelled. In December, then Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said that the authorities are still at a very early stage of looking at different possible distance-based charging models. The Urban Redevelopment Authority and LTA have plans to use the OBU for payments for roadside parking. LTA had previously said that as at June, more than 500,000 vehicles have been fitted with OBUs. This means the installation exercise has crossed the halfway mark towards equipping the entire vehicle population of around one million units with OBUs by 2026. Singapore shares buck regional rally; STI dips 0.1%

SINGAPORE - Singapore shares started the week closing slightly lower, bucking the trend elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific, which rode on a record-breaking session on Wall Street on June 27. The Straits Times Index (STI) was 0.1 per cent or 1.91 points down at 3,964.29 points on June 30, despite the blue-chip gauge opening higher as it failed to maintain the momentum in a choppy session. Nonetheless, gainers beat decliners slightly 255 to 245 across the broader market, amid a transaction volume of 2.45 billion , totalling $1.36 billion in value. Wilmar International shares continued to be under pressure after the agribusiness disclosed a fortnight ago that it handed over 11.8 trillion rupiah (S$928 million) to the Indonesian authorities over corruption charges despite it having been cleared by the district court. The STI constituent stock was at a 52-week low of $2.87, down 1.4 per cent or $0.04, at June 30's market close. In contrast, two construction players hit their 52-week-highs – OKP at $0.855 and Keong Hong at $0.122 . Neither made any market-moving announcements, however. OKP shares were up 1.2 per cent or $0.01; Keong Hong's rose 2.5 per cent or $0.003. Construction counters have been enjoying bullish market sentiment, driven by the announcements of high-value orders bagged by some of them. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq finished at all-time peaks on June 27, amid optimism that governments will be able to negotiate for a better trade deal with the United States and avoid the punishing tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump's administration in April. The Wall Street rally fuelled most markets in Asia to finish higher; Japan's Nikkei 225 closed at a more than 11-month high, at 40,487.39 points.
