This Massive $80 Million Wyoming Ranch Is Bigger Than L.A. and N.Y.C. Combined
When it comes to high-end properties, the number one million is practically nothing in terms of price anymore. But in terms of acreage? Well, that's something else. Case in point: an enormous Wyoming ranch that spans just under one million acres that has just hit the market for $79.5 million. The vast spread, known as Pathfinder Ranches, encompasses a dozen historic ranches with a total of 916,000 acres—bigger than the entire state of Rhode Island!—where you'll find a spacious residence and some 3,400 cows across its stunning unspoiled landscape. 'This legacy property is about impact on the land, the industry, the culture, and the state of Wyoming.' RELATED: Why the Ultra-Wealthy Are Betting Big on America's Luxury Ranch Estates Stretching from the Devil's Gate gorge to the Pedro and Ferris Mountain ranges, Pathfinder Ranches spreads across four Wyoming counties. Of course, you can't see from one end to the other, and driving the entire length of the ranch takes about an hour and a half. But if you do decide to undertake a survey of the property, you'll find some outstanding natural features, including Independence Rock, where settlers on the Oregon Trail etched their names as they passed through. The original routes of the Pony Express and the Mormon Trail cross the ranch, and parts of the North Platte River pass through, as do 20 miles of the Sweetwater River. As a working ranch, Pathfinder is currently leased out in four separate operating units. Along with the thousands of cows, the property is home to 180 bulls, 7,500 yearlings, and 130 saddle horses. That's not to mention the natural wildlife that abounds—the ranch owns and maintains the first habitat conservation bank for sage-grouse in the United States. In addition to those animals, it helps protect mule deer, elk, bald eagles, migratory birds, and other species. Of course, Pathfinder also offers ample living space for its human inhabitants. The centerpiece is the nine-bedroom, 7.5-bath Great Pathfinder Lodge. With more than 6,500 square feet of living space, the home is a modern yet rustic retreat amid the landscape, with a bar and billiards area, plus views of the Mountain West from all around. Other ranch houses and outbuildings dot the land, and one of the units even includes its own church.
