
Qatari students discuss cultural identity at Arab Parliament for the Child

A delegation of Qatari students participated in the second session of the fourth session of the Arab Parliament for the Child, hosted by the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates from July 22 to 26, 2025.
Fifty-six members representing 14 Arab countries participated in the event, which strengthens the voice of Arab children and refines their leadership skills.
The Qatari delegation comprised students Tarf Abdullah Al-Afeefa, Maryam Ali Al-Namlan, and Fahad Abdul Aziz Al-Maliki, along with educational supervisors Amer Al-Naimi and Shaima Kamal. They contributed to rich discussions centered around the 'cultural identity of the Arab child,' as one of the fundamental pillars in building generations and strengthening national and patriotic belonging.
The sessions are held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and under the direct supervision of HE Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. This reflects a keen interest in the role of Arab children in shaping the present and anticipating the future.
The session's programme included a series of specialised workshops and interactive dialogues, in addition to a plenary session during which the child parliamentarians expressed their views on cultural identity, based on working papers and analytical studies they had prepared themselves. This reflects the intellectual maturity and awareness of the nation's issues among Arab youth.
The sessions are expected to yield specific recommendations to be submitted to relevant authorities at the Arab level to support national and educational policies related to cultural identity. This will contribute to building a generation proud of its language and culture, engaged in its nation's issues, and qualified to contribute positively to the development of its society.
The Arab Children's Parliament, which has been permanently headquartered in Sharjah since 2019, continues to play its pioneering educational role as a platform that amplifies children's voices, enhances their participation in public life, and prepares them to become decision-makers and active partners in the process of sustainable development.
This participation aligns with the efforts of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the State of Qatar to empower students and enhance their participation in regional and international forums, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

NHRC developing educational guides to promote human rights awareness among students: Al Attiyah
QNA Beirut The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) is currently working on developing educational guides targeted at the primary, preparatory, and secondary levels, which were previously issued in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, to promote human rights awareness among students, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah said. In her speech during the high-level meeting on developing a guiding manual of best practices and experiences in human rights education in the Arab region, held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, Al Attiyah noted that this development aims to integrate human rights concepts into educational curricula in line with universal human rights principles and the values and customs of Qatari society. The meeting included participation from the National Human Rights Commission in Lebanon, the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI), headquartered in Doha, and the United Nations Training and Documentation Centre for Human Rights in the Arab Region and Southwest Asia. She added that the Committee continues its awareness efforts in this field through training kits, courses, campaigns, workshops, and competitions organized in schools, explaining that during the first half of this year, the Committee held 29 activities benefiting 1,245 male and female students. Al Attiyah emphasised that human rights education is one of the Committee's top priorities and represents a fundamental pillar in building prosperous and sustainable societies, calling for highlighting the best practices and experiences in the Arab region to encourage, support, and benefit from them in developing relevant guiding manuals. The chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee expressed the Committee's hope that this meeting would contribute to enhancing various aspects of human rights education in the region, particularly regarding the integration of fundamental human rights concepts into the educational process and the adoption of methods and mechanisms that support a human rights-based approach. She pointed out that human rights education contributes to the development of knowledge, values, and skills, in addition to instilling the values of dignity, equality, non-discrimination, freedom, and justice. She added that the Committee is aware of the challenges facing the integration of human rights concepts into educational curricula, yet it recognises the great opportunities that societies can gain by raising future generations with a culture of human rights. She affirmed the Committee's determination to move forward in this direction through clear plans that take into account the cultural, social, and civilisational values of Qatari society. Al Attiyah affirmed the NHRC's keenness to involve teachers, parents, and students themselves in relevant consultations and meetings, and to listen to the voices of children and youth on various topics raised in national forums, stressing the importance of ensuring the participation of students with disabilities and facilitating their access to all activities. She noted that the Committee's efforts align with constitutional requirements that affirm the Qatari society's foundation on five essential pillars: justice, benevolence, freedom, equality, and noble morals. These efforts also align with Qatar National Vision 2030. She affirmed the National Human Rights Committee's full support for the efforts to develop the guiding manual for human rights education in the Arab region, expressing hope that the outcomes of the meeting would contribute to enhancing the integration of human rights concepts into educational curricula and developing methods and tools that foster generations capable of upholding these values.

NRNA Qatar elects Krishna as president for 2025–2027
Ashraf Siddiqui Doha The National Coordination Council (NCC) of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), the main representative body of the Nepali community in Qatar, has successfully concluded its general convention, electing Krishna Panthi as president for the 2025–2027 term. The convention was held recently in the presence of Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, spokesperson of the Nepali Congress and former Foreign Minister of Nepal, who attended as Chief Guest. Krishna Panthi, a committed community leader with years of service in NRNA Qatar—including his previous role as first vice-president—was elected to the top post, reflecting the community's confidence in his leadership and vision. He has played a vital role in advocating for workers' rights, organising welfare programmes, and promoting Nepali culture in Qatar. The newly elected executive body comprises Rabin Magar as first vice-president; Santosh Poudel and Jahagir Alam as second and third vice-presidents; Toumaya Gurung as women's vice-president; Meher Singh Tamang as youth vice-president; and Vivek Pulami Magar as general secretary. The secretaries are Buddha Pandey, Sujan Gurung, and Arjun Sangraula. Kavindra Kandel serves as treasurer, with Kanchha Shrestha (Ajay) as co-treasurer. Kalpana Pun Magar it the new women's coordinator and Keshav Raj Malla (Keshu) as youth coordinator. The inclusive Working Committee reflects a broad representation of the community, with members such as Rita Pokharel, Indira Shah, Ram Chandra Giri, Amrit Bishwakarma, Prakash Darnal, Darshan Sunar, Ganesh Adhikari, Rajan Chapagain, Tara Tamata (Kamal), Dilli Ram Bhattarai, and Mohammad Rafiq Ryan. The newly elected team has pledged to prioritise welfare initiatives, legal aid, education, cultural promotion, and stronger diplomatic engagement with the Nepali Embassy. Special focus will be placed on low-income workers, youth empowerment, and strengthening ties between Nepal and Qatar. Adding a cultural touch to the convention, renowned Nepali folk singer Baburam Panthi, specially invited from Nepal, delivered a memorable performance that captivated the audience. Under Krishna Panthi's leadership, the new committee aims to serve as a bridge between the Nepali and Qatari communities through cultural exchange, social initiatives, and collaborative events. They have expressed their strong commitment to organising impactful programmes that celebrate Nepali identity while embracing the multicultural values of Qatari society.

Embassy of Venezuela pays tribute to national heroes who struggled for nation's freedom
Ashraf Siddiqui HE Carlos Jose Mata Figueroa, ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the State of Qatar, recently delivered a keynote address commemorating the historic contributions of Venezuela's leaders in their pursuit of national sovereignty, social justice, and regional integration. The tribute marked a significant moment of reflection on the country's enduring commitment to independence, democracy, and multipolar international cooperation. The ceremony was attended by HE Jassem Mohammed Al Asmakk, Director of the American Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, as well as a number of ambassadors, officials, and distinguished guests. In his solo address on the occasion, Ambassador Carlos highlighted pivotal moments in Venezuela's recent history, beginning with the nationalization of the Orinoco Oil Belt. He emphasized the late President Hugo Chávez's strategic vision in diversifying Venezuela's global partnerships to counter external interference, forging alliances with countries such as China, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Vietnam, Korea, Arab nations, and the African continent—all part of a vision for a multipolar world order. Ambassador Carlos recalled the attempted coup of April 11, 2002, during which President Chávez was illegally ousted and detained for 48 hours. His return to power, facilitated by the Bolivarian Armed Forces and the Venezuelan people, was portrayed as a pivotal defense of constitutional democracy. He also highlighted Chávez's efforts in promoting regional unity and integration through key initiatives such as: The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), 2004 Petrocaribe, 2005, Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), 2008 Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), 2010 The ambassador paid homage to President Chávez, who passed away on March 5, 2013. His remains rest at the Mountain Barracks in Caracas, a symbolic site of the Bolivarian Revolution. The address also celebrated the electoral victory of President Nicolás Maduro Moros on July 28, 2024, which Ambassador Carlos described as a triumph for the Venezuelan people amid external pressures and economic challenges. The election, he stated, demonstrated the people's choice for peace, sovereignty, and democratic continuity. Ambassador Carlos reported on the recent humanitarian achievement of rescuing seven Venezuelan children previously detained in the United States, as well as the liberation of 252 Venezuelan nationals who had been illegally detained in El Salvador. These developments were portrayed as examples of the government's unwavering commitment to the protection of its citizens abroad. President Maduro, according to the ambassador, reaffirmed his government's intention to recover all remaining Venezuelan children still held in migrant detention centers and condemned the reported abuses perpetrated against migrants. The ambassador also referenced the negotiated release of ten individuals described as foreign agents in exchange for the repatriation of Venezuelan detainees. The address closed with a message of international solidarity and gratitude toward Venezuela's global allies, particularly Russia, China, India, Turkey, Iran, Cuba, Brazil, Qatar, Belarus, and African nations, all considered essential to building a just and multipolar world order. Ambassador Carlos extended special thanks to HH the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Qatari government for their continued support of peace and development efforts. To conclude the ceremony, Ambassador Carlos invoked a Venezuelan military saying, drawing a powerful metaphor of unity and strength: 'One hears the deafening roar of thunder that shakes the earth, and one feels the destructive power of lightning — it is the artillery, in its great yearning for solidarity and support for its fellow arms'. He concluded with a call to solidarity: 'Let us be like thunder. Let us be like lightning. Let us be in solidarity with the peoples of the world who so greatly need us'. Throughout the event, several short videos were presented, including historical footage of former President Hugo Chávez condemning the genocide acts of Zionist Israeli regime and segments addressing international political issues. Guests were treated to traditional Venezuelan snacks like Cachapa with cheese, Arepa with cheese, Arepa Reina Pepiada, Taquinos, and a rare, Papelon with lemon (premium pure sugar-cane juice).
