AMC Theatres announce shocking change that people aren't thrilled about: ‘That's already excessive'

Moviegoers at AMC Theatres are in for a rude awakening starting next month.
A few commercials and coming attractions before a movie begins are expected — however, soon enough, AMC Theatres will be delaying the start times of movies even more.
On July 1, AMC Theatres — the largest theatre chain in the U.S. and Europe — will be adding one additional commercial on top of the many that they already play after upcoming movie trailers and before the start of a movie.

Buckle up moviegoers — you're in for a long ride before your movie even begins, starting next month.

And people are not happy about this news.
The news comes as part of a new deal with American cinema advertising company National CineMedia Inc., according to Bloomberg.

It's an opportunity for AMC to make some dough — as the movie theater chain will get a cut of the ad sales, as reported on by the outlet.
'While AMC was initially reluctant to bring this to our theaters, our competitors have fully participated for more than five years without any direct impact to their attendance,' AMC said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
'This is a strong indication that this NCM pre-show initiative does not negatively influence moviegoing habits.'

The deal is a win-win for both AMC and NCM, as it serves as an opportunity for each company to earn back some of the revenue they lost during the pandemic, when all theatres were shut down.
'For the past five years, AMC has sought out crucial revenue that is not reliant on the increase of base ticket prices,' said an AMC rep in a statement to Deadline.
'We've done this through more and better moviegoing enhancements like our significant expansion of PLFs, a greater selection of food and beverage offerings, and the introduction of movie-going merchandise like popcorn buckets and other collectible concession vessels,' the statement explained.
Although this news isn't the end of the world — and frankly, could be worse — people on X (formerly Twitter) are acting like it is.

'I show up to every movie 30 minutes after the 'start time', and it is always exactly as the movie is starting. That's already excessive,' said one person.
'How could they possibly run more?' a grumpy X user wrote.
'Gee, great! So, more people will arrive 30 minutes after 'start' time and climb over people in the dark, at the beginning of a film, to avoid the trailers and additional ads! This is why I treasure my aisle seat. I will be arriving much later now,' quipped someone else.
'Glad my area only has Regals,' commented another unhappy person.

Two days later, Sublime announced an agreement with Microsoft in which the software giant will buy more than 620,000 metric tons of Sublime cement over up to nine years. Last fall, two of the world's largest cement suppliers, Holcim and CRH, together invested $75 million in the company. The company has also raised $45 million in venture capital funding, including from Lowercarbon Capital and Engine Ventures. And on Thursday, Sublime disclosed a roster of nine construction companies, including Suffolk, that have agreed to act as sales partners to pitch Advertisement The Holyoke factory is expected to be completed in 2027 and provide jobs for at least 70 people after it opens. The plant will still get some subsidies, including $47 million in federal tax credits that remain in place, $1.05 million in state tax credits, and $351,000 in local property tax breaks. Joe Hicken, senior vice president of business development at Sublime, declined to say what kind of impact, if any, the Department of Energy's action will have on the project's timing. He noted that Sublime's mission dovetails with the Trump administration's goal of boosting American manufacturing. 'If anything, that termination letter is one data point,' Hicken said. 'We have many other data points associated with commercial movement [and] for every plan that we talk about publicly, we have 10 backup plans waiting for their day to shine.' Builders such as those at Suffolk and Consigli Construction in Milford have come to appreciate the technology developed by Sublime cofounders Leah Ellis and Yet-Ming Chiang. The process they developed replaces traditional kilns with electrolysers that make cement from calcium sources, avoiding the intense release of carbon dioxide from the super-heating of limestone used to make most cement. So far, Sublime's production has been limited to small test batches, including a foundation section included in the new building WS Development finished for Amazon in the Seaport. Consigli vice president Todd McCabe said his company signed up to sell Sublime cement because its executives are always looking for ways to build more sustainably and efficiently, and Sublime's clean cement will help with that. Advertisement At Suffolk, executives decided to buy equity in Sublime. Suffolk followed the startup soon after its 2020 inception. As Sublime moved closer to commercialization, Suffolk chief technology officer Jit Kee Chin decided it was the right time to invest. 'They're getting to the point where it's about to go to market,' Chin said. 'Really, it's no longer a science experiment. ... This is the right time for us to go in and really support them.' Chin said many of Suffolk's clients are keenly interested in Sublime's goal of creating a cost-effective, low-carbon cement that's just as effective as traditional cement, known as portland cement. The news about Sublime losing the federal award came as a disappointment to Ben Downing, the chief strategist at the Engine, a nonprofit startup accelerator affiliated with MIT and with VC firm Engine Ventures. Although it's a significant amount of money, Downing has confidence that Sublime will be able to finish the Holyoke factory. 'We know there's a lot of chaos in Washington but we believe in the science and we believe in the team,' Downing said. 'It's bad news, but if any team is going to be able to respond to it and grow and scale it, they're going to find a way [and] I know Holyoke and Massachusetts will be better for it.' After Sunday's French Open men's final – a 5-hour, 29-minute epic that somehow ended with Carlos Alcaraz holding up the trophy for a second consecutive year – we can now officially close the book on the so-called Big Three era. There's a new game in town. And it's as spectacular to watch as anything tennis has ever seen. Yes, Alcaraz's improbable comeback to beat Jannik Sinner 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2) is the story of the day. Not only did Alcaraz win his fifth Grand Slam title at just one month into his 22nd year of life – an absurd accomplishment on its own – but he did it by summoning a competitive aura only the all-time greats possess. He is, already, a legend. And that might have been the greatest match in the history of the sport. But the best part of Sunday's match is that it's not the end of the story. In many ways, it's just the beginning. HIGHLIGHTS: Alcaraz outlasts Sinner in epic French Open final The first Slam final between Alcaraz and Sinner not only exceeded every possible expectation, it sets an entirely new narrative for the sport. As Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal faded into retirement – most likely followed by Novak Djokovic in the next year or two – there was deep concern about what would come next after a 1½-decade battle between arguably the three best to ever hold a racket. Now we know definitively. Tennis is in the safest of hands. And barring something unforeseen, these two spectacular athletes are going to be doing battle in Grand Slam finals for many, many years to come. If you managed to watch the whole thing, or even just the last couple sets, it was easy to understand why that's such a tantalizing possibility. Let's start with the level of play. In a word, spectacular. Though Sinner and Alcaraz are each elite individually, combining to win the last six Grand Slam titles, the greatness they manage to draw out of each other is unique. Though different players stylistically and tactically, they have now twice played matches that could be considered among the best in the history of the sport in terms of ballstriking, endurance and the high standard it took to win a single point. When they played a US Open quarterfinal deep into the night in 2022, with Alcaraz emerging after 5 hours, 15 minutes, it showed the possibility of a friendly rivalry between two generational talents that had stretched back to childhood. It has widely been considered the best match of the decade, not just for the length of the match but the drama and the quality they both laid on the line. It only took three years to exceed that standard. Which leads to the second element of this ongoing story. What it took for Alcaraz to win that match – to beat Sinner on this particular day – was a sustained effort that few players in history could have managed. Maybe Djokovic. Maybe Nadal. Maybe. Because even though the all-time greats have all come back from two sets down and saved match points on the way to Grand Slam titles, few have had so little help from an opponent. Sure, there may be a shot or two that Sinner would want back after failing to convert three match points in the fourth set, then failing to serve out the tournament in the next game. But mostly, from that point until the final winner came off Alcaraz's racket, it was mostly about his greatness and his relentless shotmaking. Even in the fifth set, with Sinner clearly tiring more quickly than his opponent, he summoned enough energy to erase Alcaraz's early break of serve and send the match to a final tiebreak where – guess what – Alcaraz continued to pound clean winners off impossible angles. Sinner did not lose this match. Alcaraz just got up off the clay and stole it. We can debate where this final ranks among the 2008 Wimbledon final between Nadal and Federer or the 1980 Wimbledon final between John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg when you factor in all the intangibles. But if we're just talking about the quality of tennis played by two men over that length of time? It would be difficult to say there's ever been a better match. If the world was watching Sunday, it had to love what it saw. And when you realize what's ahead between them – more finals, more trophies, more history – this one felt like a moment to mark in time. One chapter of tennis closes, another begins. And it's going to be as entertaining as any we've seen.
