Grand Mysuru Dasara festivities from September 22
BENGALURU: The state festival Mysuru Dasara will be celebrated in a grand manner in Mysuru from September 22 to October 2, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday. This year, it is celebrated over 11 days, rather than the usual 10, due to a rare astronomical occurrence.
Speaking to media persons after the high-powered committee meeting in Bengaluru, the CM said that over 10 lakh people are expected to attend the celebrations.
The high-powered committee has authorised the CM to decide on the chief guest to inaugurate the celebrations. Siddaramaiah said there were suggestions on inviting a woman or a Gandhian as chief guest, and he would decide on it within a week or 15 days.
Terming it a world-famous festival, the CM said it should be a festival of people and also that of the government.
Giving details about the celebrations, the CM said Gajapayana, the ceremonial journey of Dasara elephants from their forest camps to Mysuru, which marks the beginning of the festivities, will start on August 4 and the Dasara festival will be inaugurated between 10.10 am and 10.40 am on September 22. On the day of Vijayadashmi on October 2, Nandi Dhwaja pooja will be performed at Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, and Jambusavari- pushparchane, the offering of flowers to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari, will be performed on the premises of Mysuru Palace.
Last year, Rs 40 crore was given for the celebrations. This year too, funds required for grand celebrations will be provided, the CM said.
The officials were directed to plan the programmes to highlight the government's guarantee schemes and other welfare programmes. Vijayadashami is on October 2 and the officials have been directed to make provisions for a tableau that highlights Mahatma Gandhi's principles.
The CM directed officials to reduce the number of seats in front of the Palace to reduce crowding, ensure illumination in Mysuru like it was done last year, gold cards should be distributed without scope for any confusion, and create basic facilities like parking and toilets for those coming to Mysuru to witness Dasara. A drone show will also be organised on a big scale during Dasara.

Ballari: Expelled BJP leader K S Eshwarappa on Sunday indicated a possible return to the party, saying 'the BJP was his life' and there was no question of him joining any other political outfit. He said he was considering meeting senior BJP leaders and that some within the party were also open to his return. The BJP had expelled Eshwarappa, a former state president and Deputy Chief Minister, for six years last year for violating party discipline and contesting the Lok Sabha polls as an independent from Shivamogga, rebelling against the party's official candidate. Let's see, I'm thinking of speaking to some senior leaders. I've also heard that some of them are considering my return. After discussions, things may take shape. Asked whether he had received invitations from other parties, Eshwarappa said some ministers in the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government had approached him, offering suitable positions for him and his son. He also claimed that Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav had invited him. 'Hindutva is like my breath. I joined the BJP because of Hindutva. Even if I die, I won't leave the BJP or Hindutva. So, there is no question of joining any other party,' he added.

Karnataka Govt will respond to HC notice on Cauvery aarti, says DK Shivakumar
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 29 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday said the state government would reply to the notice issued by the High Court on Cauvery aarti near the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) dam. Speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, he said, 'No one objects to offering pooja. Certain sections have some concerns, and the government will address them. No one is seeking permission to offer pooja, it is a practice that has been going on every day.' He was replying to a reporter who had drawn his attention to the High Court notice to the government regarding the Cauvery aarti. Asked about Opposition Leader R Asok's statement that there would be a change of guard in the state in August, he said, 'When did Ashok become an astrologer? If he has become one, do get me an appointment as I would like to consult him.' Asked if AICC General Secretary Surjewala would meet MLAs individually during his visit to Bengaluru, he said, 'Yes, he will meet MLAs personally. He has already informed them about it. I will also send out messages to the MLAs regarding this.' On May 24, addressing a press conference, Shivakumar stated that decisions to organise the Cauvery Aarti on a grand scale have allocated funds to support the initiative. The Cauvery Aarti to be conducted every week on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with participation from religious mutts across the state. Artists have been approached to compose a unity-themed devotional song for the occasion, and Shivakumar confirmed he has written to renowned music composers for their collaboration. On Cauvery aarti during Dasara, Shivakumar said, 'The state government is preparing to do the Cauvery aarti programme along with the Dasara this time. Cauvery aarti will include programmes to represent the cultures of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The modalities are being worked out. 'We have formed a committee under the leadership of BWSSB Chief Ram Prasath. The DC of Mandya will also be part of this committee. Various departments such as Muzrai, Kannada and Culture, Irrigation, and Tourism departments will be involved in various aspects of Cauvery aarti,' he added. (ANI)

Bengaluru: The state govt is actively considering naming International Booker Prize-winning Kannada writer Banu Mushtaq as the chief guest to inaugurate this year's Dasara festivities in Mysuru, hoping to hit several targets with the decision. If selected, Banu would be the first Muslim to inaugurate the state festival since renowned Kannada poet KS Nisar Ahmed in 2017 — during Siddaramaiah's earlier tenure as CM.
