About Jurassic World Rebirth
A new era is born. This summer, three years after the Jurassic World trilogy concluded with each film surpassing $1 billion at the global box office, the enduring Jurassic series evolves in an ingenious new direction with Jurassic World Rebirth.
Anchored by iconic action superstar Scarlett Johansson, Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey and two-time Oscar® winner Mahershala Ali, this action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind.
Also starring acclaimed international stars Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, the film is directed by dynamic visualist Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) from a script by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp.
Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
Academy Award® nominee Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zora's operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.
Ali is Duncan Kincaid, Zora's most trusted team member; Critics Choice and Olivier Award winner Jonathan Bailey (Wicked, Bridgerton) plays paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis; Emmy nominee Rupert Friend (Homeland, Obi-Wan Kenobi) appears as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer, Murder on the Orient Express) plays Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked civilian family.
The cast includes Luna Blaise (Manifest), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty) and Audrina Miranda (Lopez vs. Lopez) as Reuben's family. The film also features, as members of Zora and Krebs' crews, Philippine Velge (Station Eleven), Bechir Sylvain (BMF) and Ed Skrein (Deadpool).
An Amblin Entertainment production, Jurassic World Rebirth is directed by BAFTA winner Edwards from a script by Koepp (War of the Worlds), based on characters created by Michael Crichton. The film is produced by Oscar® nominee Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, both longtime Jurassic franchise producers and of last summer's blockbuster, Twisters. The film is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Denis L. Stewart and Jim Spencer.

Elijah Wood Reveals The Childhood Role He's Most Proud Of, and It May Surprise You — GeekTyrant
Elijah Wood is making the rounds for his most recent film, The Toxic Avenger , which had a big presence at San Diego Comic-Con last week. While Wood is best known for starring in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and some great indie films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind , he started out as a child actor in hit films like Paradise , Forever Young , Radio Flyer , The Adventures of Huck Finn and The Good Son . He has gone on to make so many different types of films, and even TV series throughout his career, it's interesting to hear which projects most stuck with him. While at Comic-Con last week, the actor was asked by Comic Book which of his childhood roles he was 'most proud of,' and Wood quickly landed on the 1994 dramedy, North . He explained, 'I haven't seen this in a long time, but I had such a fun time making it. It was much-maligned at the time. Famously, Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel hated it.' North was adapted from a novel by Alan Zweibel published in 1984, and Zweibel wrote the screenplay himself, in addition to taking a minor role on screen. The movie was directed by Rob Reiner and included a star-studded cast, including Bruce Willis, Jon Lovitz, Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and many others. It even includes Scarlett Johansson's big screen debut at nine years old. Reiner was featured in the Directors on Directing panel at Comic-Con, and he also mentioned the film while talking about his body of work, stating that he had a fondness for it as well, despite the negative feedback from Siskel and Ebert. I haven't seen this movie, despite being the prime demographic when it was released, just before I turned ten. But, as a fan of both Elijah Wood and Rob Reiner, it sounds like I should round up my kids and give it a watch.

The Best TV Shows & Movies To Stream In August
While most people have been getting out into the great outdoors this summer, we've been glued to our big and little screens as per usual. The Emmys nominations arrived with a bang, with Ayo Edebiri earning nods for both acting and directing for The Bear, Kathy Bates becoming the oldest lead actress nominee in history and of course, the White Lotus' very own Parker Posey getting her much-deserved flowers for that accent. In cinemas, things were just as exciting, with Jurassic World Rebirth solidifying us as chief members of the Jonathan Bailey fan club, Superman 's stand-out star Krypto causing a 513% increase in 'adopt a dog' searches and who could ignore the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot igniting millennial nostalgia everywhere? Plus, the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps confirmed that Pedro Pascal is indeed the official king of the press tour. As we turn our attention back to the small screen for August, there are plenty of new shows and films getting us ready for a weekend on the sofa with the AC on full blast. To take a look at all the best bits coming to streaming platforms this month, scroll on ahead. My Oxford Year Did you ever recover from Bridgerton 's King George declaring, 'I love you, Charlotte, my heart calls your name'? No? Us neither. Thankfully, Corey Mylchreest is back, this time ditching his royal wardrobe for that of a wannabe university professor. Based on the novel by Julia Whelan, the story follows Anna De La Vega (Sofia Carson), an American student who moves countries to study at the most prestigious university in the world, Oxford. There she meets the dashing Jamie Davenport (Mylchreest), who is volunteering to help teach a literature class — her literature class. However, the course of true love never does run smooth, especially when the guy in question is an emotionally unavailable Englishman. Platonic (Season 2) The first season of Platonic became an instant crowd pleaser thanks to it shaking up the age-old debate of whether or not men and women can be just friends (spoiler: they can). Heading into season two, the duo are officially back in each other's lives for good, meaning it should be smooth sailing into the boring waters of midlife. But with Will (Seth Rogan) in a new relationship, Sylvia (Rose Byrne) is tasked with keeping their friendship steady, with previous romances historically throwing their dynamic off-kilter. Wednesday (Season 2) The Addams Family spin-off is back and this time, Wednesday is returning to school as a widely celebrated hero (much to her disgust). To make matters worse, she now has to keep an eye on her little brother, Pugsley, who is joining her at Nevermore Academy. Alongside her familial troubles, Wednesday must now deal with a looming premonition that her actions are going to cause the death of her roommate and reluctant best friend, Enid Sinclair. Doing everything she can to try and stop the vision coming true, Wednesday is in for another hellish term at school, but thankfully, this time she has Grandmama to help (Joanna Lumley). Plus, the formidable Lady Gaga is set to make an appearance as a spooky guest star. The Pickup If you're looking for a good old-fashioned heist comedy, you're in luck. Starring Eddie Murphy as Russell, a security guard on the edge of retirement, things take a turn for the worse when a routine bank cash pick-up is intercepted by a masked criminal named Zoe (Keke Palmer). Held hostage with his naive colleague Travis (Pete Davidson), the pair are tasked with staying alive, helping to rob a bank and making it back in time for Russel's anniversary dinner with his wife (Eva Longoria), all within the space of one unlucky day at the office. Where to watch: Prime Video When: August 6th Watch if you like: Oceans 8, Diehard, Bad Boys FX's Alien: Earth Inspired by the famed film franchise and executive produced by Ridley Scott, Alien: Earth takes place in the year 2120, where Earth is controlled by five private corporations (sound familiar?). Alongside humans, there are cyborgs ('humans with both biological and artificial parts') and synthetics ('humanoid robots with artificial intelligence'). That is, until the founder of one of the five ruling companies creates a new being: hybrids ('humanoid robots infused with human consciousness'). Standing as a significant advancement in the race for immortality, they create the first hybrid, 'Wendy', on a deep space research vessel. But when the craft crash-lands on Earth, it leaves 'Wendy' and a group of soldiers to fight off the mysterious lifeforms alone. The Map That Leads To You Based on the novel of the same name, The Map That Leads To You is one for the wanderlust romantics. Starring Outerbanks' Madelyn Cline and Riverdale's KJ Apa, the story follows a young woman who sets off on a European adventure with her besties, only to run into an intriguing boy on a train. While Heather (Cline) has a plan to head home to her perfectly planned life in the States, she instead decides to take a risk and stay with Jack (Apa) to continue travelling the continent (and fall head over heels). But what happens when the summer draws to a close and real life demands their attention? The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox Inspired by the true story that launched a thousand documentaries, Hulu is now taking the Amanda Knox saga and turning it into a biting limited series. Detailing how an American exchange student became the focus of a criminal investigation in Italy, the series details the tragic murder of Knox's roommate, Meredith Kercher and how Knox became the focus of a case that would cost her four years in prison. That is, until public interest in her arrest leads to a campaign to free her from jail.

3 Must-Watch Movies Coming to Netflix in August 2025: ‘The Thursday Murder Club' and More
July isn't over yet, but Watch With Us is already looking forward to August. Can you blame us? Netflix is scheduled to stream some killer movies like the original Jurassic Park trilogy and the cult comedy classic Wet Hot American Summer. In addition to those films, you should stream The Thursday Mystery Club, a new mystery movie starring Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. If that's not violent enough for you, try The Departed, Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning crime drama. Netflix subscribers who crave something less violent should stick with Clueless, the 30-year-old comedy with Alicia Silverstone that's gone out of style. 'The Thursday Murder Club' (2025) Murder is more popular than ever these days — at least on Netflix. The streamer has released one hit mystery show or movie after another, with Untamed, Secrets We Keep and Copycat topping the most popular charts this summer. Netflix saved its biggest release for last with The Thursday Murder Club, a highly anticipated feature film adaptation of Richard Osman's bestselling book. For those who haven't read it, The Thursday Murder Club is about four retirees who meet every Thursday at their retirement community in Kent to solve cold cases in their spare time. The fun and games soon give way to an actual murder when a property developer turns up dead. The real police are on the case, but for Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce (Celia Imrie), it's a mystery they think only they can solve. But are these amateur sleuths right? Or are they so in over their heads that they may wind up six feet under? Fans of cozy mystery shows like Midsomer Murders and Grantchester will surely enjoy The Thursday Murder Club, which leans more on being a comedy rather than a suspenseful thriller. The cast of British pros can't be beat, and they're supported by an equally impressive roster of actors that includes David Tennant, Richard E. Grant and Naomi Ackie. 'The Departed' (2006) The Departed's plot is ingenious: Irish mob boss Frank (Jack Nicholson) installs one of his men, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), in the Boston police department to spy on them. At the same time, the Boston police send one of their own, Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio), deep undercover in Frank's criminal organization. Both sides realize they've been infiltrated, but they don't know who it is — yet. It's only a matter of time before both Colin and Billy are found out — the only question left to be answered is whose real identity will be revealed first? Loosely adapted from the equally excellent Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs, The Departed is a Scorsese movie from top to bottom. The veteran director won his only Oscar so far for his work, and it's deserved just for the suspenseful third act alone. DiCaprio and Damon have never been better as stooges caught in a violent game they tire of playing, and Nicholson has one of his best late-career roles as an oily criminal kingpin whose luck is running out fast. 'Clueless' (1995) Has it really been 30 years since Clueless first debuted in theaters and stole everyone's hearts? We'll refrain from quoting the movie's signature line, 'As if!,' but you get the picture. It's been a while, but time hasn't softened Clueless' satirical bite — or Alicia Silverstone's pitch-perfect performance as the not-so-clueless Cher. Cher is 16 years old and, along with her best friend Dionne (Stacey Dash), queen of her social circle. But when she decides to play matchmaker for new friend Tai (Brittany Murphy), her whole world turns upside down, and she begins to look at everyone, including her ex-stepbrother Josh (Paul Rudd), in a whole new way. Can this spoiled socialite experience the same kind of romantic love she finds for others? Or will she always be a 'virgin who can't drive'? From the fashion to the tunes by Jill Sobule and Counting Crows, Clueless is dated — but in a good way. It's refreshingly '90s, when someone can make a joke about grunge music and still seem relevant. The cast is terrific, but this is Silverstone's show, and she delivers one of the great comedic performances of the decade. Clueless is an eternal rewatchable movie — day or night, summer or winter, it just works, and it should be in your Netflix queue even if you've already seen it a dozen times.
