Caio Borralho: Reinier de Ridder not in title picture, at least three guys ahead of him

USA Todaya day ago
Caio Borralho thinks Reinier de Ridder hasn't done enough to enter the UFC title conversation.
De Ridder (21-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) outlasted former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker (26-9 MMA, 17-7 UFC) in this past Saturday's UFC on ABC 9 main event at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
De Ridder has won four fights in eight months, but Borralho (17-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) doesn't think his resume quite stacks up with rest of the top contenders in the division.
"That was a very, very close fight, but I think Whittaker didn't do enough to win this fight," Borralho told Submission Radio. "I think De Ridder actually won the fight even if it was close, but I don't think this is a fight that makes him a backup or in a position to be coming for the belt, or even the loser of (champion) Dricus (Du Plessis) and (Khamzat) Chimaev. There are at least three other guys in front of him in the division. There's Anthony Hernandez, there's me, there's Brendan Allen with 12 wins at middleweight, there's (Nassourdine) Imavov. There's a lot of other guys in front of him. He just beat Bo Nickal and then he beat Whittaker, but to be honest, Whittaker wasn't even there.
"I feel like Whittaker is kind of in his last fights, and he wasn't there in the moment – he wasn't present. He was too pressured, you could see it in his face. It's not like you're winning over the Whittaker we know. You're winning over the Whittaker we've never seen before, so it doesn't put him in the position to go for the title or anything like that. I think he needs at least two more fights. And don't get me wrong –– the guy is doing great work. He's finishing his fights. He's very good on the ground. But I don't think he passed through some prime guys in the UFC in the top 10."
Borralho revealed that the UFC contacted him to be the official backup for the middleweight title fight between champion Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev in the UFC 319 headliner on Aug. 16 from Chicago. Just a few weeks later, Borralho is scheduled to face Nassourdine Imavov (16-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night main event Sept. 6 in Paris.

Lionel Messi's bodyguard suspended in latest controversy

Lionel Messi's bodyguard is once again embroiled in controversy. Yassine Cheuko will be suspended from all technical areas for the remainder of the Leagues Cup after an incident during Inter Miami's game against Atlas on Wednesday night. 'After the July 30 Inter Miami CF vs. Club Atlas match, a member of Inter Miami's club delegation displayed improper conduct by entering restricted areas without an official event credential,' the Leagues Cup disciplinary committee said in a press release. The individual was reported to be Cheuko by ESPN. Advertisement Cheuko, an ex-MMA fighter who has been Messi's personal bodyguard since the megastar's time at Paris Saint-Germain, went onto the field after Wednesday's match to break up a discussion between players from the two teams. Afterward, Atlas player Matheus Doria said the bodyguard's actions were uncalled for. Lionel Messi during Inter Miami's Leagues Cup match against Atlas on Wednesday. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect 'We already know that our board works very well and will take care of the issue. I understand that Messi's bodyguard is there to protect Messi from a possible entry by a fan, I don't know, but between players, he doesn't have that permission,' Doria said. Advertisement 'It's not up to us to say much or give our opinion on the matter, but the board and those in charge of the Leagues Cup have already seen it and will take charge of what can and can't be done because as long as it protects not only Messi but the other players, and the physical integrity of the players who are there, that's fine. But if it's for other issues, no one will agree, but it's not up to me to do anything.' In April, Cheuko was banned by Inter Miami from being on the sidelines during MLS matches, although he remained a member of the club's security team.

2025 PFL 8 video: Frederik Dupras puts Nathan Kelly to sleep as referee misses tap

Frederik Dupras, take a bow. At 2025 PFL World Tournament 8, the French-Canadian bounced back into the win column when he defeated Nathan Kelly by technical submission via guillotine choke. The fight was stopped at 4:38 of Round 2 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. A tight guillotine choke began standing as Dupras (9-2) hopped up on Kelly (11-5) and locked in his grip. As the two eventually fell to the canvas, Kelly tapped, but the referee was not in position to see it. So Kelly's neck was squeezed for a few seconds longer before the official recognized consciousness no longer was present. Dupras bounces back from an April loss to Gabriel Braga. Ireland's Kelly finds himself on a three-fight skid. Up-to-the-minute 2025 PFL 8 results include: Frederik Dupras def.
