"It was a long time since I had been in the Premier League, 10 years in fact, and it was like going back to a new school this year. I was proud of myself towards the end.
"I have shown how good I can be, especially on the World Series.
"I believe I am consistent. My doubles have let me down in the last two months.
"Sometimes I have to pinch myself. I know how good I can be. It's dog-eat-dog out there. I'm glad to be up there in the rankings.
"These aren't ranked tournaments. I will take these wins. It's all about gaining confidence, it's like a snowball effect.

Liverpool in talks with Crystal Palace over move for Marc Guehi
Liverpool are in talks to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and are pursuing a deal for Parma teenager Giovanni Leoni. Arne Slot's Reds have been busy since winning last season's Premier League, with Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike and Milos Kerkez among the summer arrivals. Liverpool have also seen a £110million bid rejected in recent weeks for unsettled Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, but defensive reinforcements appear to be the current priority. Marc Guehi played a key role for England at Euro 2024 (Nick Potts/PA) PA understands the Anfield outfit are in discussions with Palace over a deal for England international Guehi. The 25-year-old captained the Eagles to victory against Liverpool in Sunday's Community Shield at Wembley and is out of contract next summer. Guehi starred in England's run to the Euro 2024 final and will want regular game time ahead of next summer's World Cup. Liverpool are hopeful that the former Chelsea defender wants to join them but sources have denied reports that personal terms have been agreed. PA understands Liverpool are also interested in 18-year-old defender Leoni from Parma and are in talks with the Serie A side. The Italy Under-19 international spent time with Padova and Sampdoria before moving to Emilia-Romagna last year.

Jack Grealish joins Everton on season-long loan from Manchester City
Everton have completed the signing of England winger Jack Grealish on a season-long loan from Manchester City. The 29-year-old has been looking for an exit from Etihad Stadium after making only seven Premier League starts for Pep Guardiola's side last season, seeking regular football ahead of next summer's World Cup. 'I'm over the moon to have signed for Everton – it's massive for me, honestly,' Grealish said. 'This is a great club, with great fans. 'As soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew there was only one place that I wanted to go. On social media, I've been flooded with messages from Everton supporters, so there's that side of it as well and that's another reason why I chose Everton. 'I want to say thank you to the fans for all of the messages I've had already. Thank you for all of the love and support. I hope I can repay you now and I'm sure I will.' Grealish has won three Premier League titles, two FA Cups, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup since joining City for a British-record transfer fee in the summer of 2021. He was integral to the City side that completed a Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup treble in 2022/23 but was hampered by injury in the following campaign and has since fallen down the pecking order. Jack Grealish is hoping regular football can help him force his way back into the England squad (Nick Potts/PA) Grealish said he was 'heartbroken' to have been left out of England's Euro 2024 squad last summer and is targeting a return to the international arena under Thomas Tuchel as the World Cup looms large. Grealish has chosen to wear the number 18 at Everton in honour of two former England internationals. 'There is a reason for (choosing number 18),' he explained. 'There were other numbers, but my two favourite English players ever are Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne and I know they both wore number 18 here. 'So, as soon as I knew this deal was close, I had a look and number 18 was free, so that was perfect for me and it was the only number I was going to take from that point. Grealish chose his number in tribute to Paul Gascoigne and Wayne Rooney (Rebecca Naden/Phil Noble/PA) 'I spoke to Wayne before I came here and I mentioned that to him – about the number 18 – so I hope he's happy as well.' Grealish is Everton's sixth summer signing following the arrivals of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Charly Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers and Adam Aznou. 'We welcome Jack to Everton and we're very pleased to have him on board,' manager David Moyes said. Jack Grealish has joined Everton on loan for the 2025/26 season. Best of luck, @JackGrealish 🩵 — Manchester City (@ManCity) August 12, 2025 'I think we're getting him at a good time because he's experienced, he understands the Premier League and we're all fully aware of the levels he's capable of performing to. 'I know Jack's ambition is to get back into the England squad, so hopefully we can help him achieve that over the course of the season.' Everton launch their new campaign at newly-promoted Leeds on Monday before playing their first Premier League game at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium against Brighton on August 24.

‘Surreal' - Ireland's Nathan Collins on decision to hand him Brentford captaincy
Ireland defender Nathan Collins has opened up about the decision to hand him the captain's armband at Premier League side Brentford. The centre-half has been given the honour by new Bees boss Keith Andrews, who previously worked with Collins when he was Stephen Kenny's assistant in the Ireland coaching team. Collins described the moment he was told he would lead the top-flight side as 'surreal.' The 24-year-old former Cherry Orchard, Stoke City, Burnley and Wolves man joined Brentford for a club record €26million two summers ago and has played 77 times for the club so far. He said: 'It's a proud moment for myself, for my family, for everyone that's put the work in for me since I was a kid. 'It's a real surreal moment and a moment that I'll remember forever.' Collins paid tribute to his new club boss, saying: 'I've known Keith a long time, he's been my coach for many years in the Irish set-up as well, so I've known him a long time. 'Any conversations I've had with him have been fluid, and very open and honest, and once he asked me I was buzzing, I couldn't, I'd never say no to an opportunity like that. 'Brentford has given me plenty of opportunities. From day one, when I came in, I've gotten along with everyone here. 'I could have a conversation with any member of staff, any player. The club has given me plenty of opportunities, so to do this is unbelievable.' Collins has plenty of influences to tap into as he embarks on this latest stage in his career, and he has experience of his own in wearing the armband. Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrímsson has turned to the Leixlip native in the absence of Seamus Coleman. He said: 'I'd like to think I can be a natural leader on the pitch and just do what I do. 'I feel like there will be a bit more responsibility off the pitch and just keep the standards high, etcetera, and nothing will have to change too much. 'I've been fortunate enough to have some unbelievable captains. Even from my time at Stoke I had Ryan Shawcross, I learned a lot from him, I had Ben Mee at Burnley, Ruben Neves at Wolves and I obviously had (Christian) Norgard here, which are four unbelievable captains. 'I've learned loads and to this day I still talk to them a lot. So anything I have, any questions, I can just bounce off them. 'Luckily for me, there are still enough leaders in the squad now that I can use. 'I feel like we need leaders all over the pitch. People lead in different ways and that's normal, but to have so many in the squad with such a young, exciting squad, it's a real good balance. 'With this group I have, with the mates I have, my family, everyone backing me and behind me, I'm hoping it will be easy.'
