‘Too Soon to Celebrate,' Says Investor About Tesla Stock

Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) bulls have had the June 12th Robotaxi date circled on their calendar for months by now, and the excitement is growing as the day approaches.
Confident Investing Starts Here:
Though the company has been teasing the idea of self-driving cars for over a decade, its track record has not totally matched the hyperbole of CEO Elon Musk. Indeed, Musk stated way back in 2013 that Tesla was aiming to have the technology to drive 90% of all miles by 2016.
Flash forward to the present day, and what was once revolutionary has now become a battlefield full of fierce competition, and Tesla has now clearly fallen behind Google's Waymo for primacy in the self-driving market. Waymo is now operating some 250,000 weekly trips, and has staked out 27% of the local rideshare market in San Francisco.
Can the Robotaxi event succeed in flipping the narrative back to Tesla?
One investor, known by the pseudonym, Stone Fox Capital advises investors not to pop the champagne bottles just yet.
'Tesla already appears valued based on initial robotaxi success, and this doesn't appear guaranteed,' states the 5-star investor.
Stone Fox notes that TSLA is so far behind Waymo that the term 'taking a Waymo' might soon become part of everyday language. Launching a small 10-car pilot program in Austin, the investor argues, isn't exactly the game-changer some investors are hoping for.
'The big risk is that a robotaxi delay continues to allow Waymo to control the market while the robotaxi service launch appears already priced into the stock,' adds Stone Fox.
Moreover, some of Musk's recent comments – such as the fact that the 'same strengths and weaknesses' of human drivers will be present with Tesla's FSD technology – are not exactly inspiring confidence.
While Stone Fox isn't discounting Tesla's potential to eventually rake in the dollars, the investor doesn't see that happening anytime soon.
'Investors can likely buy Tesla at a lower price once the far-flung excitement disappears, even if the company is on the path to a successful robotaxi business,' concludes Stone Fox Capital, but for now the investor's advice is to steer clear of this one and Sell. Meanwhile, Wall Street is firmly divided on this one. With 16 Buy, 10 Hold, and 11 Sell recommendations, TSLA has a consensus Hold (i.e. Neutral) rating. The average price target of $282.70 suggests about 18% downside from current levels – an outlook Stone Fox would likely endorse. (See TSLA stock forecast)

MAGA to Elon Musk: We want you back

MAGA has a new message for Elon Musk: We want you back. "My hope is that by the time of the midterms, he's kind of come back into the fold," Vice President JD Vance told the Gateway Pundit in a recent interview. Despite Musk's fraught departure from DOGE, his epic feud with President Donald Trump over the "Big Beautiful Bill," and his threat to form a third party that could hurt the GOP's electoral chances, several prominent MAGA figures have begun urging a reconciliation with Musk. They argue that Musk was crucial to Trump's 2024 victory, and that having the resources of the world's richest man on their side will be crucial in midterm elections that are expected to be tough for the GOP. An influx of cash from Musk would be a boon for the GOP, which has already had a strong fundraising year. MAGA Inc, a super PAC tied to Trump, raised nearly $177 million in the first 6 months of 2025. "Musk is the perfect person to be the George Soros of the MAGA Right," wrote the MAGA-aligned political strategist Roger Stone in a Substack post on Monday. "It is time for MAGA to mend fences with Elon Musk for the greater good of saving the country and winning the midterm elections." Stone's post was later shared by the far-right radio host Alex Jones, who remains influential with much of Trump's base. "Without a doubt, you helped elect President Trump & provided immense support in our beloved Commonwealth of Pennsylvania," wrote MAGA activist Scott Presler in something of an open letter to Musk on X. "With the upcoming midterm elections, which will decide whether or not President Trump will be a four-year president, I'm asking (kindly) if we can bring the gang back together." It also helps the MAGA case that in the early months of Trump's presidency, Democrats aligned themselves against Musk, owing to their opposition to the firing of federal workers and the cancelling of foreign aid programs. Musk quickly became a boogeyman for Democrats — a key factor that's driving down interest in his proposed "America Party," according to polling. "My argument to Elon is like, you're not going to be on the left, right?" Vance said. "Even if you wanted to be — and he doesn't —they're not going to have you, back that ship has sailed." Both the White House and Musk did not respond to requests for comment. A full reconciliation could be a ways off. But something resembling a detente between Musk and Trump has already taken shape. Trump said in July that he would not seek to cut off subsidies to Musk's companies, writing on Truth Social that he wants "Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before!" Musk, meanwhile, hasn't spoken about the "America Party" in weeks. He also gave $15 million to the GOP as recently as late June, remaining one of the party's biggest donors even after he began feuding with Trump. He has also posted in support of Trump's move to federalize the District of Columbia's Metropolitan Police Department and deploy National Guard troops to the city after a former DOGE staffer was the victim of an alleged assault earlier this month. "It is time to federalize DC," Musk wrote in response to a Truth Social post from Trump that suggested he would do so. On Monday, Musk even directly praised Vance in a reply to a video of the vice president's appearance on former Musk aide Katie Miller's podcast.

Cathie Wood Pours Millions Into Archer Aviation and Pony AI Push

Aug 13 - Cathie Wood's ARK funds made headlines again on Tuesday with a trio of bold moves in aviation and autonomy. ARK bought roughly $3.15 million of Archer Aviation (NYSE:ACHR) stock and added about $13.37 million of Pony AI (NASDAQ:PONY), signaling renewed appetite for eVTOL and robotaxi plays. At the same time ARK sold 282,737 shares of Kratos Defense (NASDAQ:KTOS), a disposal that totaled about $18.49 million as Wood rebalances the portfolio. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 2 Warning Sign with ACHR. The trades show ARK doubling down on next-gen mobility while trimming some defense exposure after KTOS's recent rally. Other smaller purchases included stakes in Caris Life Sciences (NASDAQ:CAI), Illumina (NASDAQ:ILMN) and Exact Sciences (NASDAQ:EXAS), alongside buys in mega-caps such as Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Deere (DE). ARK's move could push investor interest back into high-growth, speculative mobility names, but it also underscores the fund's active, high-conviction approach to thematic investing. Musk's bid to dismiss OpenAI's harassment claims denied in court

A federal judge on Tuesday denied Elon Musk's bid to dismiss OpenAI's claims of a "years-long harassment campaign" by the Tesla CEO against the company he co-founded in 2015 and later abandoned before ChatGPT became a global phenomenon. In the latest turn in a court battle that kicked off last year, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Musk must face OpenAI's claims that the billionaire, through press statements, social media posts, legal claims and "a sham bid for OpenAI's assets" had attempted to harm the AI startup. Musk sued OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman last year over the company's transition to a for-profit model, accusing the company of straying from its founding mission of developing AI for the good of humanity, not profit. OpenAI countersued Musk in April, accusing the billionaire of engaging in fraudulent business practices under California law. Musk then asked for OpenAI's counterclaims to be dismissed or delayed until a later stage in the case. OpenAI argued in May its countersuit should not be put on hold, and the judge on Tuesday concluded that the company's allegations were legally sufficient to proceed. A jury trial has been scheduled for spring 2026.
