The Kansas City Chiefs selected SMU running back Brashard Smith in the seventh round with the 228th pick in this year's NFL Draft, adding another unique offensive option in the backfield. On Sunday, he spoke with rookie reporters at rookie minicamp, describing his goals for the session and moving forward in the NFL.
"I expected to come in and just learn and pick up from all the coaches and stuff," said Smith, revealing his mentality at minicamp, "so for sure, yes, sir."

After transferring from the University of Miami, Smith earned Third-team Associated Press All-American All-Purpose and First-team All-ACC honors with SMU. He led the team with 1,332 rushing yards on 235 carries and 14 rushing touchdowns, ranking fourth in the FBS with 1,977 all-purpose yards. He played in all 14 games with 10 starts.
"Going into college, I got recruited for a receiver – slot receiver," said Smith, "As I – going into college and being in different systems and being in different offenses, I was moving around a lot, so I played running back and slot receiver a lot."
Smith had experience as a wide receiver before transitioning to the running back role, which opened the door for many offensive ideas. Head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy will likely utilize him in a hybrid role, assuming the seventh-round selection can stand out in training camp.

Tarik Skubal and AL Central-leading Tigers outduel Zack Wheeler and Phillies 7-5

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — All-Star starter Tarik Skubal won his first game since June and Javier Baez homered, doubled and knocked in four runs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Philadelphia Phillies and ace Zack Wheeler 7-5 on Saturday. Skubal (11-3) limited the Phillies (62-48) to three runs and five hits over seven innings while striking out 10. He struck out six of the first seven batters he faced, and didn't relent until the seventh. With AL Central-leading Detroit ahead 5-0, Bryce Harper opened with a single, J.T. Realmuto knocked him in with a double before Nick Castellanos golfed a two-run homer to center, cutting the Tigers' lead to two runs. Baez added a two-run double in the eighth, but Harper (three hits) negated that with a two-out, two-run shot — his 18th of the season — off reliever Will Vest. But, Detroit's Kyle Finnegan finished off the Phils with a four-out save. Wheeler (9-5) took the loss, allowing solo home runs by Colt Keith and Kerry Carpenter in the third inning, then a two-run shot by Baez in the seventh. Keith and Wenceel Perez each had three hits for the Tigers (65-47). The Phillies threatened in the sixth when Weston Wilson hit a pitch off the top of the fence for a double, the Phillies' second hit of the game. But with two outs, Kyle Schwarber hit a sky-high foul pop that Tigers left fielder Riley Greene grabbed via a long-distance sprint and brilliant sliding catch. Key stat Wheeler gave up a season-high three home runs to the Tigers. The only time he had allowed more than one in a game was on July 12 in San Diego when the Padres hit a pair in a 5-4 victory. Up next The series concludes Sunday with Detroit veteran RHP Charlie Morton (7-8, 5.42 ERA) taking on the Phillies' lefty Cristopher Sanchez (9-3, 2.55). ___

NFL Fans Assign Blame For Micah Parsons Trade Request

NFL Fans Assign Blame For Micah Parsons Trade Request originally appeared on The Spun. Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys are heading for an ugly breakup. On Friday morning, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that Parsons' relationship with the Cowboys has deteriorated to the point where a trade request isn't out of the question. Fast forward a few hours later, and the All-Pro pass rusher announced that he wants out of Dallas. "Yes I wanted to be here," Parsons wrote. "I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this America's team once again. The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately I no longer want to be here. "I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me." Parsons then provided some insight on his negotiations with the Cowboys. "Up until today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract. Not one demand has been made by my agent about money years or anything else. Still I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally." Unsurprisingly, the NFL world had a lot to say about the latest twist in this saga between Parsons and the Cowboys. Most fans are blaming Jerry Jones for this trade request. "Jerry Jones really messed around and pushed Micah Parsons out of Dallas — Their undisputed best player!!! Can't make this up," one fan said. "No Cowboys fan should be upset with Micah on this decision. We don't blame him one bit. Dallas will lack severe credibility as an organization until Jerry Jones no longer has control or power," a second fan wrote. "Does Jerry Jones put his ego aside and give Micah the money now ??! Probably not smh," another fan commented. "Micah should bail. If he ever wants a shot at a SB ring. Has to get away from Jerry and Dak. Maybe take less money and latch on to a more balanced and talented team. Greed kills professional sports teams," a social media user wrote. "Micah's deal should've been done last offseason. High chance Jerry pays up but if I was him I'd hold out and force a trade elsewhere," an NFL fan said. Parsons has racked up 52.5 sacks since joining the Cowboys in 2021. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it could take at least two first-round picks and a few mid-round selections to land Parsons. That's if the Cowboys are willing to deal him. FOX Facing Pressure From NFL Fans To Remove Tom Brady Before Week 1

FOX Facing Pressure From NFL Fans To Remove Tom Brady Before Week 1 originally appeared on The Spun. Tom Brady is gearing up for his second season as FOX's No. 1 color commentator, but should that be the case? Apparently, several fans are hoping the network makes a last-minute change to its broadcast booth. When FOX initially hired Brady as an analyst, NFL fans were excited to see what he'd bring to the table. They were hoping he'd be brutally honest about the product on the field. However, their stance on the seven-time Super Bowl champion changed once he became a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. In an effort to maintain the league's integrity, Brady is not allowed to witness another team's practice. He also isn't allowed to attend production meetings for FOX. These restrictions were put in place because Brady currently represents the Raiders. Despite all the criticism surrounding Brady's rookie year at FOX, he has decided to run it back for the 2025 season. That's not a huge surprise considering he agreed to a 10-year deal. Even though Week 1 hasn't even arrived yet, NFL fans are already questioning Brady's ability to remain unbiased. On Friday afternoon, Brady was at training camp decked out in Raiders gear. A quick video of him watching practice sparked a ton of outrage on social media. "Why is the minority owner of a team the color commentator on FOX's #1 broadcast team? I still don't understand this at all," one fan said in response to the video of Brady at practice Friday. "Perfectly normal for him to be a network's #1 analyst. Perfectly normal," a second fan sarcastically said. "The fact that he's allowed to call games in just unspeakable," another fan wrote. "But he can be a broadcaster without being partial, right right," a social media user commented. Fans wouldn't have any issue with Brady getting a close look at his squad if he wasn't a national broadcaster. At the end of the day, FOX has invested a lot of money in Brady. The network isn't going to abandon this experiment after a few bumps in the road. If Brady struggles mightily this fall, maybe things will change. For now though, his job at FOX is Facing Pressure From NFL Fans To Remove Tom Brady Before Week 1 first appeared on The Spun on Aug 2, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 2, 2025, where it first appeared.
