Netflix's Best New Comedy Has 2025's Best Critic Scores

One of Them Days
Netflix has yet again scooped up another great licensed movie, which is coming at a good time as it has gone through a number of rather bad original releases as of late.
That would be One of Them Days, a 2025 comedy starring Keke Palmer and SZA, about a singular, chaotic day between the two roommates that have them hunting down a rent payment due by the end of the day, lest they be evicted. Here's the official synopsis that goes into more detail:
So far as I can tell, One of Them Days, which was released in January of 2025, has the best critic scores for a comedy this year, here in its first quarter. Maybe the best audience scores too, or close to it. That's a 94% from over a hundred critics, and a 90% audience score from thousands of verified viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Those scores put it up with some of the best comedies of 2024 like My Dead Friend Zoe (95%), A Real Pain (96%) and even Best Picture winner Anora (93%). I don't think anything else in 2025 is even close to it yet.
One of Them Days
Rotten Tomatoes
The movie features an almost entirely black cast, but it is certainly a comedy for everyone. I watched it back when it was first able to be rented on PVOD, and it's absolutely hilarious. An easy recommend for anyone looking for a laugh, particularly if you want something recent you likely have not seen yet.
One of Them Days reportedly had a budget of just $14 million, tiny in this day and age of bloated spending. It more than tripled that at the box office, earning $50 million, and that's before paid streaming rental and now however much Netflix paid for the license. There is no confirmation that the movie will get a sequel, but it probably could if it wanted to, and star Keke Palmer has talked about cast members that would be great to add in a sequel like Regina Hall.
This will no doubt do well on Netflix's Top 10 list, but it's only just been released today, so there's no charting data for it yet. At just over an hour and a half, it's a breezy watch, and I would definitely get to it sooner rather than later.

Nicole Scherzinger, Mia Farrow and Sadie Sink Party After the Tonys

On Sunday night, after all the Tonys had been handed out, the comedian Alex Edelman took the stage during the official after-party at the Museum of Modern Art. 'One day more,' he sang, waving his arms, trying to recruit others to join him behind the microphone in a rousing one-man rendition of a song from the musical 'Les Misérables.' 'Another day, another destiny … ' Mr. Edelman, who received a special Tony Award last year for his one-man show 'Just for Us,' slowly gathered his army of fellow performers: Betsy Wolfe, Jessica Vosk and Casey Likes. Soon, more than half a dozen stars were belting not just their own parts, but every part. A cabaret moment is a familiar scene for any theater party, even on a night celebrating an unusual Broadway season. It has been a banner year on the district's 41 stages, thanks in large part to a flurry of shows with screen stars on the marquee: 'Good Night, and Good Luck' (George Clooney), 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' (Sarah Snook, who won a Tony Award for playing 26 different characters), 'Othello' (Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal) and 'Glengarry Glen Ross' (Bob Odenkirk, Bill Burr and Kieran Culkin), among others. Many actors were making their Broadway debut. 'I'm so lucky to get to do it,' Sadie Sink, best known for her role as the tomboy Max in Netflix's science fiction drama series 'Stranger Things,' said at the MoMA party, celebrating her first nomination.
