FO reaffirms zero-tolerance stance on terrorism

Pakistan has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against terrorism and emphasised its pivotal role in global counter-terrorism efforts. Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to international cooperation and has played a crucial role in the fight against terrorism, as evidenced by the apprehension of Sharifullah, the mastermind behind the Abbey Gate bombing, the Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement issued on Friday. The statement also addressed the ongoing investigations into the Pahalgam incident, which occurred in the disputed region of Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The FO rejected any claims linking the incident to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a defunct organisation that was banned in Pakistan years ago. The FO stressed that Pakistan has successfully dismantled such outfits, arrested and prosecuted their leadership, and effectively deradicalised their cadres. The statement further highlighted India's tendency to exploit designations of terrorist groups to promote anti-Pakistan narratives. It noted that this tactic often serves to divert international attention from India's ongoing human rights abuses, particularly in IIOJK. "While the issue under consideration pertains to US domestic laws, India has a track record of exploiting such designations to push anti-Pakistan propaganda with a view to divert international attention from its irresponsible and rogue behavior," the statement read. It added that Pakistan remains a counter-terrorism bulwark, having made unparalleled sacrifices in the global fight against extremism. The FO called on the international community to adopt objective, non-discriminatory policies in addressing terrorism, stressing the need for collective global action against all terrorist organizations. In this regard, Pakistan urged the inclusion of the Majeed Brigade as an alias of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in the list of designated terrorist organisations, the statement concluded.

Arms Control, Non-Proliferation & Disarmament: 7th round of Pak-UK Dialogue held in London

ISLAMABAD: The seventh Round of the Pakistan-United Kingdom Dialogue on Arms Control, Non-Proliferation, and Disarmament was held on 16 July 2025 in London. Additional Foreign Secretary for Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security (ACDIS) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Islamabad, Ambassador Tahir Andrabi, and Director of Defence and International Security at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Ambassador Stephen Lillie CMG, led the respective delegations. The two sides engaged in comprehensive discussions on a wide array of issues, including international and regional security, strategic stability, arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation. Deliberations also focused on the dynamics of the United Nations General Assembly (First Committee), the Conference on Disarmament (CD), international conventions (such as the BTWC, CWC, and CCW), multilateral export control regimes, and the use and implications of new and emerging technologies. In addition, both sides exchanged views on Pakistan-UK bilateral cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear technology. Since its inception in 2015, the Dialogue on Arms Control, Non-Proliferation, and Disarmament has remained a key component of the broader bilateral engagement between the two countries. Both sides recognised the vital role of regular dialogue in fostering mutual understanding and promoting cooperation. In this context, they agreed to convene the next round of consultations in Islamabad next year. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

US quashes talk of Trump's Pakistan visit

US President Donald Trump arrives at a dinner for NATO heads of state and governments hosted by Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Dutch Queen Maxima, on the sidelines of a NATO Summit, at Huis ten Bosch Palace in The Hague, Netherlands June 24, 2025. Photo: REUTERS Listen to article The White House on Thursday said that no visit of United States President Donald Trump was scheduled to Pakistan "at this time" after widespread reports of a trip. The White House dismissed the rumours. "A trip to Pakistan has not been scheduled at this time," a White House official said. The reaction came after two local television news channels reported on Thursday that the US president is expected to visit Pakistan in September, citing sources familiar with the matter. Foreign Office spokesperson said he was not aware of Trump's expected visit. The two TV news channels said that Trump would also visit India after arriving in Islamabad in September. US-Pakistan relations saw a major boost when Trump hosted Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House last month in an unprecedented meeting. A US embassy spokesperson in Islamabad told Reuters, "We have nothing to announce," and said that the White House might be able to provide confirmation on the president's schedule. Pakistan's information ministry didn't respond to a Reuters request for a comment. India is due to host the summit of the so-called Quad countries this year but dates for the meeting have not been announced yet. The Quad grouping includes the US, India, Australia and Japan and is focused on countering China's rise in the Indo-Pacific region.
