Though Rupani helped bring transformative projects like AIIMS and Rajkot's new airport, what people remembered most was his simplicity and accessibility.
"He was a tall neta, yes,' Sanjay Mehta, a neighbour told TOI. '"But he lived like one of us. Always kind. Always ready to help. You'd never know he held such a big position. To us, he was Vijaybhai - our neighbour, friend.'
Condolences poured in from leaders across party lines. Rescue teams later confirmed his name among the deceased.
Rupani's nephew, Mehul Rupani, told TOI the family was shattered by the loss. "The family is devastated to know about the sad demise of uncle. 'Anjali aunty (Rupani's wife) and her daughter are returning from London, as are other relatives from the US. We will follow the processes as advised by govt to take custody of his mortal remains. Family is in shock.'
Meanwhile, his personal assistant, Shailesh Mandaliya, who dropped him off at the airport, recalled the moment: "Few minutes after dropping him, we heard the news.'

UK: Three British Hindus beaten up in London park in racially motivated attack

They replied that they were not looking at his family and were looking at friends playing cricket. Then a slightly older man from the café group came over and asked: 'What is your problem? Why are you talking to my brother?' The three men tried to defuse the situation and the two men seemed to accept their answer. They went back to the park and sat on a bench. Around 30 minutes later, three men from the cafe group, in their mid to late 20s, came over and became very aggressive, asking, 'Where are you from? Are you Sri Lankan? Are you Indian?' Onus on officials to provide quality education to students: Bhuse
Nashik: School education minister Dada Bhuse on Friday said while state govt was taking steps to boost student attendance in zilla parishad schools, it was up to education officials and teachers to deliver quality education to students. "State govt will welcome students across the state on their first day on June 16. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar will join too in welcoming students to govt schools. I urge all elected representatives and govt officers, including police and bank officials, to attend the programmes at every school," Bhuse said, after reviewing the performance of the education department of Nashik Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad in the presence of industry minister Uday Samant, MLA Kishore Darade, Zilla Parishad chief executive officer Ashima Mittal, deputy director of education BB Chavan, and others. The school education minister said, "While govt was taking measures to increase the admissions to schools, the education department officials should ensure they provide quality education to the students and retain them." "A large number of initiatives are being introduced and implemented in many schools in the state. We will ensure they do not remain limited to specific schools only. The officials should create a better and quality environment to increase the inflow of students to the schools of local self-government bodies, including the zilla parishad," Bhuse said.
