Rain and cold grip KwaZulu-Natal as cold front moves in
Wet weather is expected to persist throughout the day, and temperatures will remain cool to cold across the region.
Durban will see a maximum of 21°C, while Richards Bay will peak at 20°C. Inland areas such as Newcastle and Underberg are expected to be much colder, with daytime highs in the low teens and even colder overnight.
The coastal areas, particularly along the eastern shoreline and adjacent interior of KwaZulu-Natal, are set to receive widespread rainfall, with isolated to scattered thundershowers in other areas.
Forecaster Phemelo Zonke said, 'As the cold front has moved through, isolated showers and thundershowers in places over the interior are expected, reaching the southeastern coastline and becoming widespread along the eastern coastline.' She added that the public should take caution as some of the storms could be intense in isolated areas.
Although KwaZulu-Natal is not currently under a weather warning, the extreme northeastern parts of the Eastern Cape bordering KZN may experience severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, strong winds, and hail. These conditions may influence weather in northern KwaZulu-Natal, especially overnight.
The rest of the week is expected to remain cool, with partly cloudy skies and a chance of isolated showers continuing into Wednesday and Thursday.

KwaZulu-Natal to enjoy warm coastal weather
KwaZulu-Natal will see warm and sunny weather across most parts, particularly along the coast. Areas like Richards Bay are expected to reach highs of 24°C, offering a reprieve from the cold gripping central South Africa. Forecaster Mpho Rasimphi said, 'Warm conditions will persist into the coast over KwaZulu-Natal. Richards Bay will peak at around 24 degrees.' While the Western Cape braces for a cold front, KwaZulu-Natal remains unaffected. However, inland regions might experience slightly cooler conditions with increased cloud cover. 'KZN will remain clear,' Rasimphi confirmed. 'We're not expecting any rainfall or strong winds in the province. The coastal belt will be the warmest region nationally tomorrow.' Clear days and chilly nights expected in Gauteng
Gauteng will experience clear daytime weather under clear skies, but nighttime temperatures are set to dip sharply this week. While the region remains unaffected by the incoming cold front hitting the Western Cape, forecasters advise residents to prepare for chilly mornings and evenings. According to Mpho Rasimphi, a weather forecaster, 'Gauteng will remain mostly clear, with Johannesburg reaching highs of around 19 degrees. However, temperatures will drop significantly at night.' This pattern continues from the trend of stable conditions over Limpopo and Mpumalanga. The cold front sweeping through the Western Cape will not directly impact Gauteng. Instead, Gauteng and its surrounding provinces will stay mostly cloud-free. 'Tomorrow is going to be a clear day for Gauteng,' Rasimphi explained. 'While parts of the Northern and Eastern Cape face damaging winds, Gauteng will enjoy stable and dry conditions.' Although the days will be pleasant, the evenings and early mornings could be uncomfortable. Bethlehem, located nearby in the Free State, expects a minimum of -3°C.
