AI FOR BUSINESS GROWTH
AS customer expectations rise and operations become more complex, enterprises are turning to AI-powered platforms to boost efficiency and satisfaction.
Malaysian technology company Emerico wants to make those problems a thing of the past for businesses.
With its recently launched AI-powered customer experience platform, the Alexis S Series aims to transform the way businesses assist their customers in acquiring, engaging and retaining them more effectively.
In banking, Alexis S Series helps reduce wait times and operational costs by handling routine requests, while ensuring smart routing to a human advisor for more complex needs.
This launch signals Emerico's intention to expand its international presence, tapping into the rapidly growing market for AI-driven automation solutions.
Making AI work for business
The Alexis S Series is like a digital Swiss army knife for businesses.
Imagine walking into a branch or logging onto a website and being greeted by a friendly virtual assistant that can handle your customers' questions, verify their identity and even assist them in filling out forms – all in just a few minutes. That is what Alexis is designed to do.
Emerico developed the Alexis S Series with a leading American AI team, creating a platform that's smart and practical.
Emerico's patented protective sleeve, featuring biometric and card reader technology, underscores the company's commitment to innovation and intellectual property.
This platform leverages the latest technologies of Agentic AI – think of this as an assistant that runs 24/7, learning, adapting and making real-time decisions to automate processes, analyse behaviour and optimise operations.
Supporting this, DataOps ensures only clean, reliable data feeds into the system, while MLOps manages the lifecycle of machine learning models, keeping them accurate, up-to-date and scalable.
This allows the platform to adapt to evolving data, maintain accuracy and operate in compliance with business and regulatory standards.
This integrated approach helps businesses automate routine tasks, freeing up staff for higher-value work, reducing operational costs and errors and responding quickly to market trends and emerging risks through real-time analytics.
The smart platform adapts to the needs of the grocery sector, helping businesses by addressing customer questions, recommending products and even suggesting recipes, making shopping easier for the customer.
All these capabilities are integrated into a streamlined solution that supports e-KYC (electronic identity verification, including biometric scanning and real-time document authentication), AI-powered chat support and secure data handling.
The Alexis S Series is designed as a one-stop solution for organisations looking to drive service efficiency, strengthen security and deliver a future-ready customer experience.

The case involved a patented notepad protective sleeve featuring biometric and card reader technology, now protected in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, the Philippines, Germany, Thailand, the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China, with patents pending in several other countries.

Strait of Hormuz remains open, safe for regional trade, says Iranian envoy
KUALA LUMPUR: Iran has given the assurance that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open and safe for trade and energy shipments, including those to Southeast Asian nations. Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi said while the Iranian Parliament had suspended cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it had not taken any definitive steps to close the strait. "The Strait of Hormuz has always been open. There are no obstacles to the movement of ships through the strait. "Our decision was to stop working with the IAEA, not from any action related to the Strait of Hormuz," he told a press conference at the Embassy of The Islamic Republic of Iran in Kuala Lumpur. He said this in response to concerns that the waterway, one of the world's most critical energy supply routes, may be affected by the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. He said the decision was made due to IAEA's failure to condemn the attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, particularly after Israel struck several sites. Despite IAEA observers being stationed in Iran and monitoring activities at nuclear facilities, Valiollah said the agency did not stand up for Iran during a time of need. "Their observers are in Teheran and back to headquarters but when Iran was attacked, they didn't condemn it. So what is the benefit for us?" Valiollah said Iran remains committed to ensuring security and stability in the region. "We always try to keep the Persian Gulf and this region quiet, under control, and with the best security because it is a place for energy," he said. The ambassador maintained that Iran's goal is to facilitate commerce when asked if this commitment meant Iran would provide safe passage for shipments from the Middle East to Malaysia and those the country see as "allies". "Iran always wants this area to be open for trade and, of course, economic cooperation between our neighbouring countries and Iran with overseas or other countries in the world. "This (closing the strait) is not on our agenda now. But if the situation becomes unbearable in the future, we may reconsider." He assured Malaysians that the conflict would not spill over into Southeast Asia, noting the close coordination between the two nations. "We, of course, coordinate with the Malaysian government on this situation. "Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spoke with our president recently about how we can work together for peace and security in the region, especially in the Middle East and Persian Gulf region," he said.

MMC Ports to file for biggest IPO since 2012
MMC Ports could seek to raise about US$2bil in a share sale as soon as September. KUALA LUMPUR: MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd is pressing ahead with its planned listing in Malaysia, according to people familiar with the matter, in what could be the biggest local initial public offering (IPO) in more than a decade. The port operator, owned by Malaysian tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary, has confidentially filed listing documents with regulators and is awaiting approval to post a draft prospectus, the people said, asking not to be identified because the process is private. MMC Ports could seek to raise about US$2bil in a share sale as soon as September, the people said. The planned listing could value the company at as much as US$7bil, some of the people said. Considerations are ongoing and details including size and timing may change, the people said, adding that MMC Ports could also decide against an IPO. Representatives for MMC Ports and parent MMC Corp Bhd didn't immediately respond to requests seeking comment. Bloomberg News reported in October that MMC Ports was working with financial advisers on an IPO plan. The company runs seven ports along the Straits of Malacca, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, and is the biggest such operator in Malaysia, according to its website. It also operates three cruise terminals. The potential IPO could be the biggest since plantation group FGV Holdings Bhd raised more than RM10bil or US$2.4bil in 2012. — Bloomberg Trading ideas: TNB, Sports Toto, Cypark, Aeon Credit, HSS, Gas Malaysia, Green Ocean, UEM Sunrise, Destini, Citaglobal, ATA IMS, RHB, Sapura Energy, Ajinomoto, SNS, iCents

Asian stocks hesitant, dollar slides on Trump's attack on Powell
SINGAPORE: Asian stocks stuttered on Thursday, while oil prices stabilized and the euro was perched at a 3-1-2/-year high as investors weighed geopolitical, economic and fiscal uncertainties as they braced for U.S. President Donald Trump's deadline on tariffs. Markets have been soothed by a ceasefire between Israel and Iran that appeared to be holding, reducing the risks of disruptions to the global oil trade and underpinning sentiment. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was little changed in early trading, as the rally in Wall Street took a breather overnight. Tokyo's Nikkei rose 0.9% to a four-month high. The U.S. dollar selling kicked up a notch after a media report said Trump has toyed with the idea of selecting and announcing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's replacement by September or October in a bid to undermine his position. That pushed the euro to its strongest level since November 2021. It last fetched $1.6805. The Swiss franc firmed to a decade-high while the Japanese yen strengthened 0.35% to 144.70 per dollar. Trump has repeatedly criticized Powell for not cutting interest rates and has floated the idea of firing him or naming a successor soon, denting investor confidence in U.S. assets and undermining the central bank's independence. "I think it's a given that Trump's pick to succeed Powell, when it comes, will be one that sits at the highly dovish end of the spectrum and will support Trump's agenda of lowering interest rates," said Tony Sycamore, market analyst at IG. "The issue with this is it will resurface questions from earlier in the year around the Fed's independence, which, as we saw, undermines confidence in the Fed and the USD." The dollar index, which measures the U.S. currency against six rivals, wallowed at its lowest level since March 2022. The index has slid 10% this year as investors, worried by Trump's tariffs and their on U.S. growth, look for alternatives. Financial markets remain on edge over Trump's chaotic trade policies as the clock ticks down to his July 9 deadline for trade deals. Powell, who resumed two days of congressional testimony on Wednesday, said Trump's tariff plans may well just cause a one-time jump in prices, but the risk it could fuel more persistent inflation is large enough for the central bank to be careful in considering further rate cuts. Fed officials still expect to cut interest rates this year, but the timing is uncertain as officials wait on looming trade deadlines and for more certainty about the scope of the tariffs that will be imposed and the ways that rising import levies influence prices and economic growth. "No one knows exactly how tariffs will impact inflation, which will keep central banks in conservative mode, particularly the Fed," said Bank of America strategists, noting downside risks to global growth remain relevant, not only due to trade wars but also due to geopolitical developments. "We are carefully monitoring fiscal policy across key countries that can affect global interest rates. Unsustainable fiscal dynamics can trigger an accident in bond markets," they said in a note. In commodities, oil prices inched higher to continue recovering after a volatile month so far due to the conflict between longtime rivals Israel and Iran. Brent crude futures rose 0.2% to $67.82 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) gained 0.28% to $65.1. - Reuters
