Durban gears up for tyre-screeching thrill as Red Bull Shay' iMoto rolls in

The Citizen2 days ago
RED Bull Shay' iMoto is revving up the hype and excitement ahead of their much-anticipated KZN debut at Suncoast Casino on Sunday, August 10, when the smell of burning rubber will overpower the salt-tinged air of Durban's Golden Mile.
The event organisers have announced the 16 drivers that will go head-to-head in the spinning competition. However, before they can get into gear for the competition, the Red Bull Shay' iMoto static car has been doing the rounds in Durban, making all the right noises. The car was a hit in Phoenix, drawing the attention of fans and car enthusiast alike. The static car will also make a stop in Umlazi on Saturday, August 2, at Fresh Stop Mega City and Max's Lifestyle.
The event organisers said that this was the perfect way to announce the arrival of the spinning elite who will gather at Suncoast to claim their place in motorsport folklore.
'Durban has always been different. It's where the spinning scene carries its own distinct flavour, influenced by the city's multicultural energy, its proximity to the ocean, and its reputation as the playground of KwaZulu-Natal,' said the organisers.

Among the confirmed line-up are returning champions carrying the weight of expectation, hungry newcomers with nothing to lose, and local heroes finally getting their home ground advantage.
'The Durban crowd will witness battles that extend beyond the track. Old rivalries will reignite under the coastal sun, while new ones are born in the heat of competition. Indeed, the move to Durban represents more than a change of venue, it's a homecoming for a sport that has always belonged to the people,' said the organisers.
They added, 'Each driver brings their own story to the tarmac. Some learnt to spin in the shadow of mine dumps, others perfected their craft along beachfront promenades. Some are third-generation spinners, carrying family legacies in their DNA. Others are newcomers who discovered their calling in the smoke and thunder of previous Red Bull Shay' iMoto events.'
The list of top 16 drivers includes Boksie, Jabu, Magesh Junior, Makgasa Fire, Robin Fortuin, Sadz – Flyboxin, Skopas / Bad Company, Team 2xspicy JZ, Team Kayla, Team Nevs, Team Osizweni, Team VQ25, Vaaitjie, Ziko and Lockdiff.
Tickets are available via Computicket for what promises to be a defining moment in SA motorsport. For more information on the 2025 Red Bull Shay' iMoto event, visit: https://www.redbull.com/za-en/events/red-bull-shay-imoto.

But Khoza's latest role promises to capture the public's imagination even further. Come September 7, Khoza will showcase his versatility in the much-anticipated crime drama "Levels", premiering on Mzansi Magic. Produced and written by Busisiwe Ntintili of The Ntintili Factory, the series will take viewers on a thrilling journey of ambition, power and the consequences that follow in the wake of a monumental heist. "Levels" delves into that tantalising fantasy, all sparked by the disappearance of R1 billion in foreign currency during a daring robbery at a private airport. In the wake of this chaos, Crime Intelligence mobilises high-ranking detective Bongi Nkosi, played by Lunathi Mpofu ("Fatal Seduction", "Disaster Holiday"), to lead the investigation. However, things take a complicated turn when they send a rising star from head office, detective Stephen Vilakazi (Khoza), to assist her. "When detective Vilakazi starts connecting the dots, Bongi's professional and personal life begin to unravel. She is not only dealing with a partner who's watching her every move, but she also has a past that won't stay buried and a growing attraction that could wreck everything. The cast also includes Melusi Mbhele, Sikelelwa Vuyelani, and Unathi Mkhize. • "Levels" is set to air on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) on September 7 at 7.30pm.
