A Hesperia man is behind bars after investigators discovered a cache of illegal weapons, narcotics and a stolen Jeep at his home on Monday, officials said.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department served a search warrant in the 18600 block of Lilac Street that day, targeting the home of 33-year-old Luis Padilla.
At Padilla's home, investigators allegedly discovered the following:
Two stolen pistols
Five assault rifles
Large-capacity ammunition magazines
Ammunition including armor-piercing rounds
Suspected narcotics
Items indicative of drug sales
A stolen Jeep Gladiator
Padilla is being held at the High Desert Detention Center in lieu of $40,000 bail, though jail records show a separate hold for charges related to driving with a suspended license, which carry a separate $10,000 bail.
In this case, he faces charges of possession of narcotics for sale, possession of a controlled substance while armed, altering a firearm, carrying a stolen loaded firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle.
He was due to appear in Victorville Superior Court Wednesday morning.

Man accused of fatally beating woman in Roxbury ordered held without bail

Prosecutors said investigators obtained security video that shows Boyette and Flood getting into a Jeep parked in front of the apartment complex at 6:43 p.m. on May 19. A little more than an hour later, the driver's side door opens and Boyette 'is observed swinging what appears to be a hammer in downward motion in the backseat of the vehicle,' prosecutors said in court records. About two hours later, at 9:49 p.m., the video allegedly showed Boyette get out of the Jeep and pull Flood's 'motionless, seemingly unconscious body' from the vehicle, prosecutors said. Advertisement 'The victim's body falls to the asphalt ground and the suspect delivers a kick to it,' prosecutors said. Prosecutors said Boyette placed Flood in the backseat and then got back into the car. Around 5:30 the next morning, Boyette and another person were seen taking Flood out of the vehicle again and placing her in a nearby wheelchair, before leaving the area, according to prosecutors. Advertisement Prosecutors said an autopsy revealed that Flood sustained multiple injuries to her head and body 'consistent with blunt force trauma.' Boyette's attorney, Timothy Bradl, said his client maintains his innocence. Prosecutors did not say how Boyette and Flood knew each other. Boyette has other open cases against him, including charges of assault and battery on a police officer and assault with a dangerous weapon. He was slated to stand trial on April 29 but did not appear in court, prosecutors said. Nick Stoico can be reached at

Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff for policy, has said the Trump administration will deport the family of a 16-year-old convicted of killing a woman in a car crash. Newsweek has contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for comment via email outside office hours. The Context The 16-year-old, an undocumented immigrant from Colombia, was previously sentenced to probation and community service in connection with the July 2024 death of 24-year-old Kaitlyn Weaver in Aurora, Colorado. The sentencing followed a plea agreement reached with prosecutors. President Donald Trump, who campaigned on mass deportations, returned to office in January and has since made sweeping policy changes. His administration has overseen increased immigration enforcement actions, with officials setting a goal of "a minimum of 3,000 arrests for ICE every day" as part of the president's flagship mass removal policy. ICE What To Know The 16-year-old, whose name has not been released because of state laws protecting the identities of juvenile offenders, was taken into custody on May 20. ICE said he and his family had been residing in the United States without legal authorization at the time of the arrest. The teen, who avoided jail time after his conviction, was arrested alongside his family by federal authorities. "The entire family will be deported," Miller wrote on X on Thursday. Weaver was placed on life support following the crash and was hospitalized for two days before being taken off life support. What People Are Saying ICE said in a statement to Fox News: "U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a 16-year-old criminal alien from Colombia May 20 in Aurora, Colorado. The minor, who was convicted of reckless driving resulting in death was arrested along with his family who are also illegal aliens. The minor was convicted in Colorado's 18th Judicial district and was sentence to probation and community service." ICE Denver wrote in a post on X on Thursday: "For the @DA18th justice is no jail time and probation for this criminal alien who killed a young woman while driving more than 90mph. For ICE, justice is arrest and removal." What Happens Next The teen is set to remain in ICE custody while awaiting an immigration hearing.
