A Hesperia man is behind bars after investigators discovered a cache of illegal weapons, narcotics and a stolen Jeep at his home on Monday, officials said. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department served a search warrant in the 18600 block of Lilac Street that day, targeting the home of 33-year-old Luis Padilla. At Padilla's home, investigators allegedly discovered the following: Two stolen pistols Five assault rifles Large-capacity ammunition magazines Ammunition including armor-piercing rounds Suspected narcotics Items indicative of drug sales A stolen Jeep Gladiator Padilla is being held at the High Desert Detention Center in lieu of $40,000 bail, though jail records show a separate hold for charges related to driving with a suspended license, which carry a separate $10,000 bail. In this case, he faces charges of possession of narcotics for sale, possession of a controlled substance while armed, altering a firearm, carrying a stolen loaded firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle. LAFAYETTE, La. () — Sunset Police Chief Luis Padilla pleaded guilty in federal court to a civil rights violation in connection with an incident that occurred last December. Padilla, , changed his plea Thursday morning on the charge of after originally pleading not guilty. According to a from the Department of Justice, Padilla was accused of a federal civil rights violation for 'willfully using unreasonable force against an individual' during an 'investigation and detention' in early December 2023. The indictment alleged that 'without legal justification, the individual was restrained in handcuffs, and Padilla forcefully twisted the individual's thumb and wrist in a manner intended to cause pain, which resulted in bodily injury to the individual.'
