He later returned to Bayern twice, as assistant of Giovanni Tarapponi and part of Heynckes' staff, and also was part of the coaching staff of Bayern's basketball team.
"FC Bayern owes a lot to Egon Coordes," Bayern president Herbert Hainer said in a statement.
"He was never in the front row, yet he had a huge influence and played his part in the successes of the 1990s. Our thoughts are with his family. Egon Coordes will always have a special place in our memories at FC Bayern."

Mainz's Hong Hyun-seok set for Ligue 1 loan
Kicker reports that Mainz midfielder Hong Hyun-seok is set to be loaned out to Nantes. The 14-times-caped Taeguk international only just joined his current Bundesliga outfit from KAA Gent last season. After starting his initial four Bundesliga fixtures under Mainz head coach Bo Henriksen, Hong didn't earn another league start after September of 2024. Hong wrapped up the 2024/25 campaign with 23 league appearances, 19 of them coming in relief. The South Korean's estimated market value plummeted from €9m to €3.5m over the last twelve months. Mainz paid Gent €4m to acquire Hong from the Belgian Pro League side last autumn. He was the German club's most expensive summer signing. Hong never really managed to catch on in the way intended with the Palatinate Club. South Korean teammate Lee Jae-sung continued to thrive while Hong simply couldn't gain traction. Paul Nebel's rise, along with the summer additions of Benedict Hollerbach and Sota Kawasaki, further diminished Hong's prospects of gaining playing time. Kicker reports that Mainz are set to net a €400,000 loan fee as part of the transaction. Hong remains under contract with the Rheinhessen until 2028. Mainz sporting CEO Christian Heidel has directly confirmed Hong's impending loan out to the German magazine. GGFN |

Luis Diaz: Arne Slot sends clear message as Liverpool manager explains forward's absence
Arne Slot confirmed that Luis Diaz was left out of Liverpool's pre-season friendly with AC Milan because of the ongoing transfer speculation surrounding the Colombian. The forward wants to leave Anfield this summer amid interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, and he was omitted completely from Slot's squad for the Reds' 4-2 defeat to Milan in Hong Kong on Saturday. The former Porto winger was not the only high-profile absentee from the Premier League champions' squad, with Darwin Nunez, who has also been linked with a move away from Merseyside, also not involved in any capacity. 'He's training really well with us,' Slot said of Diaz. 'But we've decided, for now, not to play him yet. 'I'm used to talking to most of my players on a regular basis, like I said, Lucho is training really well and we've decided he's not playing at the moment. I cannot comment much more about that.' However, Slot confirmed that Nunez was not missing due to swirling transfer rumours, but instead because of a minor injury. 'In Darwin's situation, he's also trained really well and played a few good games for us, but he was injured so we didn't want to take a risk with him as well,' Slot said of the Uruguayan. Joe Gomez, the centre-back, flew back to England with his own injury earlier on Saturday, leaving Liverpool with just two recognised central defenders for their game with Milan. Natural central midfielder Ryan Gravenberch filled in alongside his captain and compatriot Virgil van Dijk in the first half, before Ibrahima Konate and Kostas Tsimikas formed a makeshift pairing in the second period, when the Reds found themselves 3-1 down going into stoppage time. Slot shrugged off any kind of 'concern' about his lack of depth in the position, but emphasised that his side had 'yet' to replace the departed Jarrell Quansah, who joined Bayer Leverkusen. "I don't think we have a concern at centre-back,' Slot continued. 'Ryan showed he can play that position, he did it as well although we favour him as a No 6. Wataru Endo can play there. So we have enough options but it is true that Jarell Quansah left and we haven't replaced him yet." Endo, who Slot namechecked as able to play at the heart of defence, was also missing from the matchday squad against Milan, although he was ruled out with illness.

Sunderland will look to intensify efforts for Bayer Leverkusen's Granit Xhaka
reports that Sunderland are now expected to intensify their efforts for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka. A decision is expected this week on the future of the Swiss midfielder, as despite it being previously reported that Sunderland may not be able to agree a deal with die Werkself, the newly promoted Premier League side has not given up. Leverkusen still demand €20m, but Sunderland are said to be open to paying the fee. Kölner-Stadt Anzeiger reports that die Werkself are open to a fee just below €20m. If Leverkusen receives this fee, Xhaka will be allowed to leave. Die Werkself head coach Erik ten Hag has continued to campaign to keep Xhaka at the club as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonathan Tah have already left the BayArena this summer, while Lukas Hradecky could also follow out the door, this would leave Leverkusen with no recognised leader, as the axis of their title win and second place last season have departed.
