Squid Game Creator Reveals Alternate Season 3 Ending

Squid Game Creator Reveals Alternate Season 3 Ending

Cosmopolitan5 days ago
*Squid Game season 3 spoilers ahead*
The third and final season of Squid Game recently dropped on Netflix, and boy, was it full of nail-biting tension from start to finish.
But for those who have yet to see the latest episodes, let's unpack: Seong Gi-hun returns to the ever-deadly games—which are created as entertainment for a group of wealthy VIPs—in a last bid to bring them down for good. However, his plan doesn't exactly go as expected: viewers watch as Gi-hun is forced to sacrifice himself to save another player's baby.
Of course, the heartbreaking ending polarized many fans, who were distraught that evil ultimately prevailed. The ending is also perhaps why the finale has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes critics score of all three series, trailing behind at 78 percent, compared to season 2's 83 percent and season 1's 95 percent.
And now, it's been revealed that the conclusion could have gone in the complete opposite direction. It comes after Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk shared an alternate ending for the show.
In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Dong-hyuk stated that this wasn't the original ending, but a "vague idea" of how he would end the story in the beginning. He explained: "Back then, it was having Gi-hun end the game, in one way or another, and leave alive and go see his daughter in America. So originally, I thought the person who witnesses the American recruiter woman would be Gi-hun."
While there's nothing we can do to save Gi-hun now, the creator did give his reasons for the main character's sacrifice. He told the outlet: "As I began writing the story, and as I began to think more and more about, 'What do I want to deliver with the ending of this story?' And also, 'What should Gi-hun's journey and what should his destination be?' I was witnessing more and more what was happening around the world and I thought it was more fitting for Gi-hun to send this powerful and impactful message to the world [with his death] and that should be how the story comes to a close."
Finally, Dong-hyuk concluded: "The world seems to be headed for the worst. It seems to be becoming, in so many different ways, so much worse ahead. I thought, 'What kind of sacrifices do we need to make in the current generation for us to be able to leave the future generation with a better world?'"
"So I wanted Gi-hun's sacrifice to be a symbol of that," he said.
Yep, we're not crying. You are.
Squid Game season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.

Kid Cudi Explains Why ‘Entergalactic' Never Got a Sequel: ‘I Asked Them Multiple Times'

Kid Cudi is opening up about why his Netflix hit Entergalactic didn't receive a follow-up. In response to a fan on X earlier this week, Cudder said the animated project, which earned critical praise in September 2022 and even won an Emmy, didn't stream the way Netflix expected. Unhinged Cruise Stories Tiktok

When one imagines a cruise, they typically think of a relaxing, oftentimes tropical, getaway filled with sunshine, buffets, drinks, and dancing. In many instances, however, that idealized picture couldn't be further from the truth... That's why when TikTok user @lindseytowery77 asked, "What's the most unhinged thing you've experienced on a cruise ship?" Cruisegoers flooded (no pun intended) the comment section with stories of their worst experiences at the high seas. Here are 23 of their most chaotic and cringe-inducing stories: "Someone snuck their pet raccoon onto the ship. Nobody was aware of it until someone's vape went missing. When they found the raccoon, it had also gotten into someone's stash of melted M&M's and was asking for more snacks." —scoobygroovy "My entire family of around 15 people booked an inexpensive cruise. The tickets were cheaper because the ship had a bad history and had been struck by lightning, which had caused a fire. The day before our cruise, the ship was struck by lightning again." "My cousin went on a cruise while out on bond. When the ship docked in Mexico, he cut off his ankle monitor and put it in the closet of his room. He left the ship with everyone else, but didn't come back." "On my very first cruise, I was bombarded by police at my cabin door the day we got back to the port. I was put in handcuffs and had to walk by hundreds of people to the holding cell on the bottom of the ship because I had a bench warrant for traffic tickets at home. TRAFFIC TICKETS." —tikatrill "A person I know well flashed the port authority because they didn't think they inspected the boat seriously, and the port authority shone a spotlight on them. I was in the room when this happened, and I cracked up." "The ship hosted a 'newlywed game.' One of the questions was, 'Where was the weirdest place you've had sex?' The host mentioned that the night before, staff had caught a couple fooling around on one of the beds in the spa on the security camera. The couple was on stage..." "I went on a cruise in Italy during the Fourth of July, as I was not intending to celebrate. There were other Americans on board who were dressed from head to toe in American flag clothing. They were blasting 'patriotic music' and the national anthem through speakers around the ship during the entire cruise! I was "Canadian" that week." "I was on a cruise in 2014, and as we were making our way to Florida, we came across 19 people on a styrofoam boat with a lawn mower engine." "While on a cruise, I saw a waiter take water from glasses at a table after customers left and pour the used water into a pitcher to be served to other guests at the restaurant. We immediately left." "On my last cruise, a woman ran around the living quarters, naked and drunk, while having diarrhea all over the floor. She banged on numerous people's living quarters. I felt bad because there was a kid who saw it, but they just screamed and ran away. The hallways smelled terrible for at least three days afterward, and I never saw the woman again." —_thatoneworkoutbro_ "A woman was wandering around the casino bar and freely taking sips from other people's glasses. When security finally caught her and told her to stop, she loudly announced that she had herpes and advised them to throw away all those glasses. I don't think we saw her again after that." "I had a 'cruise bae.' I had never met or seen this man before in my life. When we finally exchanged Instagram handles, we discovered we were already following each other! It was so weird." "While I was on a cruise with a few friends, there was a missing person's alarm sounding at 2 a.m. Every single crewmember was woken up to search each room and find the person who was reported missing. (They feared he had gone overboard). All of a sudden, there was a loud bang on my door, and my friends and I were accused of harboring him because I looked like the girl he had been hanging out with." "We heard an alarm every 10 minutes as more announcements were made because they were still unable to find him. His picture was posted everywhere on the ship. Around 7 a.m., it was announced that he had been found. I later ran into him at one of the shows and asked what happened. He said he went back to a room with a woman to hook up, and they both were so drunk that they slept through everything. They were only found once the crew started going door-to-door."—sparkle_diaries "Not necessarily unhinged, but when we went on a cruise, there was another family with a little boy who looked exactly like our son. I panicked multiple times because I thought my child was had been taken when I'd see them, and then I'd remember, 'Oh, that's his doppelgänger.'" "Honeymoon 2009: Our cabin was the owner's suite. At 3 a.m., the wife and I were 'consummating' our marriage on the balcony, when I looked up, and saw the bridge crew watching and giving us a thumbs up. Good times!" "During a cruise, my friend got drunk, lost his shoes, and was later found unconscious in an elevator with his legs sticking out. When the two employees who found him asked who he was, he gave them his roommate's name instead of his own." "The next day, the unaware roommate was called to the captain's quarters where he was informed of everything 'he' did (which the other friend actually did). He thought he had developed a drinking problem and stayed in his room contemplating life for a of this came to light when we were scrolling through pictures of the friend who actually did the stuff and saw the name tags of the two workers who found him. The innocent friend got a strike against his name on that cruise line, and he didn't even do anything."—cosmichuntress "I had joked about becoming a cruise ship performer. On day two of the cruise, I won a lip sync contest on the lido deck, and spent the next five days doing interviews and performing." "Once, when I worked on a Hawaiian cruise, we had to kick two younger guys off the ship and leave them on an island because they snuck into the crew areas and tried to put notes on doors, slide things under doors, etc. They walked all over the crew decks with no ID and tried to wreak havoc." "It was hilarious because they got stranded and left behind on their family trip. EVERY crew member who passed by them and didn't stop or report them was fired. We have to wear visible IDs, so the guys should have been caught beforehand."—liftoff_linaya "During our cruise, my sister decided to stay up late one night while my mom, my nephew, and I went to bed. We were all in the captain's suite when she heard someone say her name from outside the room. She walked out and asked, 'What?' When no one answered, she went back to bed, put her AirPods in, and then heard my mom, who was lying right next to her, say 'Hey,' but my mom was sound asleep. She freaked out about it, and we all thought it was weird." "The next day, she was taking a shower while my mom, my nephew, and I were out on the lido deck. She said she heard my nephew banging on the door, yelling 'Mama, Mama,' which wasn't possible as we were on the other side of the boat. At dinner later that day, it was announced that we had been in the Bermuda Triangle."—allidarlin "I was on a cruise with horrible food, so I only ate cheese and cold cuts. One night, there was no cheese, and I cried at the buffet, so a waiter got me a little bowl of cheese." "The first and only cruise I ever went on was a year ago: I sat in a hot tub with my husband and another couple, just shooting the breeze. The woman claimed to be a bit of a psychic and said I had a strong energy. I entertained it, and she told me to expect a promotion in the near future." "When I returned to work, I was called into a surprise meeting where I was offered a position to oversee all of marketing throughout our company."—kayakdollparts "I went on a cruise this month and watched a lady shave her bikini line while sitting on the edge of the ship's hot tub." "While on an Alaskan cruise, we hit an iceberg. Everyone casually gathered their life jackets while waiting for the damage assessment, then went back to gambling, eating, and watching shows while wearing their vests." "The band played the Titanic theme song, and the photographers took this time to utilize the bow backdrop, where hundreds of passengers did the famous 'Jack and Rose' pose."—brandeesummers Did any of these stories surprise you? ‘I Think My Mom Has More Followers' – Jake Paul Takes Shot at Boxing Superstar

'I Think My Mom Has More Followers' – Jake Paul Takes Shot at Boxing Superstar originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Jake Paul stirred up headlines outside the ring following Taylor-Serrano 3 on Netflix. Advertisement It wasn't Jake Paul's fists making noise on Friday night, but his words. While the highly anticipated trilogy between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano delivered fireworks inside the ring, it was Paul's post-fight commentary that sparked headlines outside of it. Promoting the historic Netflix event under his Most Valuable Promotions banner, Paul backed Serrano in her third showdown with Taylor—a bout that ended with Taylor cleanly sweeping the trilogy in front of a packed Madison Square Garden. Following the bout, the press conference shifted to future matchups. Paul and his MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian were asked about rising contender Shadasia Green potentially facing Claressa Shields. WASHINGTON, DC - AUGUST 22: Jake Paul looks on during the Battle of the Giants Press Conference at The Anthem on August 22, 2024 in Washington, DC. (Photo by) When the idea of placing that fight on the Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford undercard came up, Bidarian, former UFC CFO, dismissed the idea, saying, 'That's a headline event, my man. This is MVP W, MVP Women.' Advertisement But Jake Paul took it further. 'No one knows who Terence Crawford is. I think my mom has more followers than him, not even kidding,' Paul said bluntly in a clip shared by Happy Punch—an eyebrow-raising statement considering Crawford is the reigning undisputed welterweight champion and one of boxing's pound-for-pound elites. With titles across multiple divisions and a historic dismantling of Errol Spence Jr., Crawford's credentials speak for themselves. Still, Paul's comments were classic showman—controversial and perfectly timed. As Netflix ramps up its investment in combat sports, both Shields vs Green and Canelo vs Crawford promise blockbuster potential. But if Jake Paul has his way, the spotlight might shift sooner than expected.
