3 dead, 1 injured in Montérégie car crash
Emergency services were called to the scene around 10 p.m. Saturday evening on Principale Street, near 16th Avenue.
'According to initial reports, the vehicle was travelling south on Principale Street when it veered off the road. It ended up in a ditch before colliding with a tree. The vehicle then caught fire,' said provincial police (SQ) spokesperson Laurie Avoine in an interview on Sunday morning.
She said an 18-year-old woman managed to get out of the vehicle.
'She was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. However, her life is not in danger,' Avoine said. 'Three occupants were unable to get out in time. They were pronounced dead at the scene.'
The identities of the victims will have to be confirmed by the coroner's office.
An SQ reconstructionist specializing in collision investigations was dispatched to study the scene and determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
A section of Route Principale was still closed to traffic shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday.
It was too early to determine whether speed, alcohol or drugs could have been a factor in the crash. All possibilities are being examined by the SQ, and the investigation is ongoing.

Investigation underway into fatal collision involving pedestrian
An investigation is underway into a fatal collision involving a pedestrian in Edmonton Friday afternoon. At around 3:30 p.m., a 60-year-old man was walking north on the curb parallel to the southbound lanes on 50 Street near 40 Avenue. A Toyota Tundra driven by a 39-year-old man driving south in the curb lane along 50 Street hit the pedestrian when, police were told, the man stepped into the southbound lane. EMS and EPS personnel tried lifesaving measures on scene and the injured man was transported to hospital where he died. The driver of the Tundra wasn't injured and remained on scene. Police believe neither excessive speed or alcohol are factors in the collision.

Man arrested after vehicle crashes through front door of RCMP office in Montreal
MONTREAL — A man is under arrest after a vehicle went through the front door of the RCMP headquarters Saturday morning in the Montreal suburb of Westmount, just west of downtown.
