Joanna Carson, Johnny Carson's third wife, died at 88. Her death was confirmed by friends on social media.
Joanna Carson, a former high-profile model and the third wife of late television legend Johnny Carson, has passed away at the age of 88. The news of her death, which occurred privately in July, was shared by friends on social media and confirmed through a tribute post by the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation on July 30. Her funeral took place last week.
'Remembering ETAF's dear friends and supporters, Joanna Carson and Wallis Annenberg, who embodied our Founder, Elizabeth Taylor's spirit of love and support," the Foundation's Facebook post read.
Joanna, who was once one of New York's highest-paid models, led a private life in later years but remained a figure of interest due to her relationship with Johnny Carson and her continued involvement in philanthropic causes. Her financial status was often speculated on; some outlets such as biographykind.com reported her net worth to be between $20–30 million in 2025, while others, like Global Stardom, estimated it between $5 million and $12 million. Apart from her modelling income, much of her wealth reportedly came from divorce settlements and investments.
Joanna and Johnny Carson met in 1971 at the iconic 21 Club in New York. At the time, she was divorced from World Backgammon Champion Tim Holland and raising her son in a modest New York apartment. 'I was flirting like a sophomore," Johnny told People years later about their first encounter. They married in 1972, and their union lasted 12 years. Their 1985 divorce, estimated to be worth $20 million (about $48 million today), was one of the most expensive in Hollywood history.
Although she relocated to Burbank, California with Johnny and her son Tim, Joanna had little interest in showbiz. 'I don't have that much to say about Johnny's work. It's not my place," she once admitted. Her reservations about the move from New York reportedly caused friction early on. 'You're coming to California with Tim and we're going to be married," she recalled Johnny saying.
Their marriage also faced challenges stemming from Johnny's drinking habits. In a 1979 interview with 60 Minutes, Carson confessed, 'When I did drink… I would go just the opposite [of gregarious]. And it would happen just like that!"
Despite their split, Joanna was remembered fondly by those close to the couple. Actress and socialite Ruta Lee told People in 1983, 'Joanna's very accomplished at being a woman… She just has a wonderfully sensitive approach to men."
Joanna was preceded in death by her son, who passed away in 1994. Johnny Carson went on to marry Alexis Maas in 1987, remaining with her until his death in 2005 at age 79.

Russian Girl, Studying In Bengaluru, Sings Kannada Poem With Her Indian Bestie

Last Updated: The little girls' performance not only highlighted their beautiful bond but also their love for the Kannada language. A Russian girl and her Indian friend recently went viral on social media for singing a Kannada poem together while cycling through a Bengaluru neighbourhood. Dressed in vibrant traditional Indian attire, the little girls' performance not only highlighted their beautiful bond but also their love for the Kannada language. The video, shared on Instagram, began with a heartwarming montage of photos showcasing the girls together over the past three years. In the most recent 2025 footage, the girls were seen riding their bicycles while singing 'Bannada Hakki" (Colourful Bird), a popular Kannada children's poem. The side note read, '3 years in India. Girlfriends – classmates. 3 years of friendship." See the video here: The video was further shared on Reddit with the caption, 'Even foreigners learnt Kannada, what's your excuse in spreading more love and compassion towards our language?" The post triggered a discussion around language learning, with many highlighting the importance of schools and surroundings in facilitating children's linguistic adaptation and learning. One user wrote, 'Easier for kids to learn a language to speak as they are not worried about the correct way to pronounce a particular word/sentence." Another added, 'Real Problem is our schools. The government should make local language mandatory in schools so that 2nd generation immigrants will learn the language at least." 'It's simple. Indians just don't respect their own language. They will learn French, Spanish etc., while sitting in India, but will proudly they don't know the local language," pointed out a user. A person wrote, 'It's fun and positive when she did it by herself. Not so fun when goons are shouting at you or threatening you with weapon. Understand the difference." 'I feel it's easy to learn during schooling, she might be having Kannada as a subject. I tried learning 40-50 words so far, but I don't have anyone to talk to. So I easily forget," read a comment. 'Entitlement, arrogance, and a condescending attitude toward the language, culture, and people of the land they've settled in, despite benefiting from the leniency shown by Bengalureans, in whose city they are earning their bread and butter – This is their hidden excuse," remarked a user. view comments Location : Delhi, India, India First Published: August 07, 2025, 16:28 IST News viral Russian Girl, Studying In Bengaluru, Sings Kannada Poem With Her Indian Bestie Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Rejected By Top Director, This Dwarf Actor Stole The Show With One Role

Lilliput recalled how an assistant to director Basu Chatterjee dismissed his dreams, citing his physical condition and saying people like him had no place in the film industry Actor MM Farooqui, widely recognised as Lilliput, recently shared his remarkable journey to Bollywood in a candid interview with Red FM podcasts. Despite many aspiring actors dreaming of making a name in the industry, Farooqui's path to success was fraught with challenges, particularly due to his height. Known for his roles in films and TV series such as ' Dekh Bhai Dekh ', ' Vikram Vetal ', ' Gutur Gu ', ' Shararat ', ' Shaurya Aur Suhani ', ' Razia Sultan ', and the popular web series ' Mirzapur ', Lilliput's journey was anything but easy. MM Farooqui, popularly known as Lilliput, got his stage name due to his dwarfism. In a recent interview with Red FM podcasts, he recalled living in his hometown, Gaya (Bihar), when a friend encouraged him to pursue acting in Bombay. Lilliput shared that he had done theatre in Gaya and was often regarded as one of the best in the city. So when his friend said, ' Aap Bombay aayiye. Aap Bombay aayiye to chhaa jaayenge (Come to Bombay, when you come you will be a star)," he began to wonder if he could really make it there. 'I came from a very poor family. We didn't even have money to take a rickshaw into the city. How could I dream of going to Bombay?" Lilliput recalled. But just as the thought crossed his mind, a friend who believed he could be the next Mehmood handed him Rs 150 for the journey to Bombay. 'I never thought about where I would live or what I would eat because I had no financial support from my family," he said. While his condition saddened his family, they never abandoned him. His relatives, too, were concerned, but he never let them see his struggles. Life in Mumbai proved to be harsh. Farooqui often went hungry and spent nights sleeping on the streets. Recalling those difficult days, he shared that he had only one set of clothes and could bathe just once a week. 'I used to go to a public toilet, take a bath, wash my clothes there, and then wear them wet. They would dry on my body under the sun." Lilliput also recalled a painful moment when an assistant to veteran director Basu Chatterjee bluntly told him he wouldn't make it in films. 'He reminded me of my shortcomings and said, 'All this doesn't work in cinema,'" Lilliput said. He believes the remark wasn't meant to hurt, but to convey a harsh truth, that people like him rarely get opportunities in the industry. Lilliput's fortunes changed with his role as Dadda Tyagi in the acclaimed series Mirzapur starring Pankaj Tripathi, Divyandu, Ali Fazal and Shweta Tripathi. His performance in the second and third seasons was highly appreciated, overshadowing even established actors like Vijay Verma and Pankaj Tripathi.
