A new space show narrated by actor Pedro Pascal will debut at the American Museum of Natural History this summer

Time Out25-04-2025

Pedro Pascal is headed to space—sort of.
The beloved actor will lend his voice to "Encounters in the Milky Way," the brand-new Hayden Planetarium Space Show opening at the American Museum of Natural History on June 9, 2025. The show marks the seventh installment in the museum's storied Space Show series and celebrates the 25th anniversary of the iconic Rose Center for Earth and Space.
Using jaw-dropping visualizations based on real data from the European Space Agency's Gaia mission (which has mapped nearly two billion stars), 'Encounters in the Milky Way' takes viewers on a cosmic joyride through billions of years of galactic motion. It's the first Hayden Space Show to explore how the Milky Way's dynamic dance affects our solar system's past—and its wild future.
Audiences will watch our Sun's birth possibly triggered by the Milky Way's clash with the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy, see our system drift into a supernova-cleared 'local bubble' around the time humans first stood upright and fast-forward to the future, when a rogue star named Gliese 710 barrels through the Oort cloud, messing with comets like it owns the place.
Directed by Carter Emmart and produced by the museum's award-winning science visualization team, the program also spotlights cutting-edge tools like the James Webb Space Telescope and features a brand-new immersive audio system for maximum galactic drama.
Previous Space Shows have featured narrators such as Tom Hanks, Whoopi Goldberg and Neil deGrasse Tyson, but this one might be the most action-packed yet. Whether you're a space buff, a Pascal stan or just want to kick back and stargaze without leaving the planet, this one's worth orbiting your summer plans around.

When to see Strawberry Moon glow in 'major' phenomenon not seen for two decades

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info This month's full Moon is set for an unusual twist that won't be seen again for almost two decades. It will sit much lower in the sky due to a phenomenon known as a 'major lunar standstill', making it appear bigger and more orange . A full Moon occurs when the lunar surface facing Earth is fully illuminated by the Sun. This happens roughly every 29.5 days, which is the duration it takes for the Moon to complete one whole lunar phase cycle. The final full moon of spring in the northern hemisphere will illuminate UK skies on Tuesday and Wednesday (June 10-11). Traditonally known as the Strawberry Moon, it will be slightly different this year both in terms of position and colour. What makes June's Strawberry Moon so special? UK watchers will see this year's Strawberry Moon sitting very low in the southern sky. Not only is it the lowest full Moon of the year, but the Moon hasn't been this low in the sky since 2006 – and it won't be again until 2043. This is due to an event that happens once every 18.6 years called the "major lunar standstill", reports the Manchester Evening News. Throughout the Moon's nearly 20-year-long cycle, our lunar companion follows a unique, tilted orbit around Earth. As a result, it experiences events called major and minor lunar standstills. When these occur, the Moon rises and sets at its most extreme points on the horizon, so appearing unusually low or high in the sky. During the Strawberry Moon, Earth will be nearing its greatest distance from the Sun in its orbit, whilst the Moon will also be as far from the Sun as it can be in its orbit around Earth. This will therefore result in a full Moon that one of the year's most distant from the Sun. The Moon will also appear much larger than usual due to its proximity to the horizon, a phenomenon known as the "Moon illusion". As an added bonus for stargazers, it will be joined in the night sky by the bright red star Antares, often referred to as the "rival of Mars". Join the North Wales Live Whatsapp community now (Image:) Will the Strawberry Moon appear red? Not exactly. While it won't appear strawberry-red, the Moon is named after the wild strawberries that start to ripen during early summer, according to the Farmers' Almanac. Each month's full Moon is given a unique nickname. For example, January's full Moon is known as the "Wolf Moon", and February's full moon is referred to as the "Snow Moon". For June, its full Moon is called the 'Strawberry Moon'. However, this year's Strawberry Moon is special – it might even glow slightly orange or rusty red. Since the Moon will be situated so close to the horizon, it might appear a rusty red or orange due to the effect of Earth's atmosphere and how it scatters light reaching the Moon. Similar to a "Blood Moon" phenomenon seen during a partial lunar eclipse, sunlight filtered through the Earth's atmosphere scatters out most of the blue light, leaving red hues to reflect off the Moon's surface. (Image: Stellarium) Best time to see the Strawberry Moon The best time to see the Strawberry Moon will be at dusk on Wednesday night (June 11) It will rise at 10.46pm BST and reach its full phase at 8.44am BST. However, as sunrise on Wednesday morning is around 4.45am, it will already be light when it reaches its full lunar phase. Find the weather forecast where you live

Dakota Johnson spotted 'kissing' co-star after Chris Martin's on-stage message

Dakota Johnson was seen with her on-screen love interest and co-star Chris Evans' arm around her waist at the New York City premiere of her upcoming romantic comedy, Materialists Dakota Johnson 'kissed' her Materialists co-star at the New York City premiere of her new movie on Saturday night, after her ex Chris Martin supported her upcoming movie. While she attended the event and posed for photos, the 35-year-old had Chris Evans' arm tightly wrapped around her waist. The stunning actress looked in high spirits as she stood in front of the cameras with Marvel star Evans, but it wasn't him she locked lips with. In Pedro Pascal's absence, she held up a cardboard cut-out of her on-screen love interest and kissed Pascal's photo, who plays her 'perfect match' in the film. ‌ Materialists is Dakota's upcoming rom-com, set for release in August. In it, she plays protagonist Lucy, a young, ambitious New York City matchmaker, who finds herself unable to choose between her 'perfect match' and her imperfect ex. ‌ The love triangle her character finds herself embroiled in is between The Last of Us actor Pascal's charming billionaire Harry, and Marvel star Chris Evans, who plays her college sweetheart. Acclaimed filmmaker Celine Song is at the helm, with much-hyped movie hoping to revive the genre at the box office. Dakota's light-hearted display comes as her rumoured ex Chris Martin showed public support for her new movie, urging a sold-out stadium of Coldplay fans to go and see it. The 48-year-old singer was reported to have split from his partner of eight years this week. Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota has been reported to be "devastated" by the break-up, but sources have also suggested it was a long-time coming. Amiable Chris still showed his support to Dakota, who has reportedly been just as upset about losing contact with his children, after growing close to them. Chris was closing his Allegiant Stadium gig in Las Vegas, addressing the audience to say: "Thank you so much everybody." He added: "Be kind to yourself, be kind to each other. Don't forget to see Materialists! We love you!" ‌ But off the big screen, Dakota's love life has been just as challenging, with the actress' rep forced to deny break-up rumours back in August 2024. On Monday June 2, Dakota was seen out in New York without her engagement ring. Neither Dakota nor Chris has confirmed or spoken on the reports yet, but a source has claimed that the rumoured split has been "painful" for Dakota. Speaking to the Sun, a they revealed: "Dakota wanted this relationship to work. "She not only loves Chris, but his two kids, and that loss feels incredibly painful. The decision to end things was amicable, but Dakota is finding it hard. Over the past year, it became clear that their relationship had stalled and wasn't moving forwards." ‌ As Coldplay's world tour continues, Dakota has been working on promoting Materialists, as well as her other upcoming film Verity. The latter is set for release in 2026, and is an adaptation of It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover's novel of the same name. Although they have had to shut down split rumours before, the Mail reports that this time, it's final. An insider told the paper: "Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much. "Breakups aren't instant and they continued to breakup and makeup and sometimes things would work when they were away from each other, while they were working because absence makes the heart grow fonder, but then they'd get back together and little things just kept adding up to where they weren't right for each other anymore... Dakota is devastated that she isn't going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them."

Jack Fincham and Chloe Brockett 'back together again after sixth split'

Seventh time's a charm for Jack and Chloe, who have reunited again after a tough couple of months for the pair, reigniting the spark by going on a series of sweet dates with each other Love Island star Jack Fincham and his on-off girlfriend Chloe Brockett are back together, after six break-ups. Still not ready to full call it a day, the couple are trying again to make their relationship work. Only in April it was reported that the constant bickering and heated rows had become too much for the pair, who ended their relationship for the sixth time. But seventh time's the charm for the tumultuous couple, who have come to the realisation that they have something "special". ‌ Jack, who found fame on Love Island in 2018, was paired up on the show with Dani Dyer. But the pair didn't last, splitting up just a few months after leaving the villa. ‌ Dani, 28, later found love with West Ham footballer Jarrod Bowen, with the couple getting married last weekend. Jack moved on with TOWIE star Chloe, 24, after they got together in 2019, and they've finally put their differences aside, after being spotted at Bethnal Green's Columbia Road Flower Market. A source told the Sun: "Chloe and Jack have been on and off for months but have finally put their differences aside to give their relationship another chance. They really want to make it work so have been enjoying some lowkey dates as they gradually build the trust. "They have realised they have something special so want to put their time and energy into making it work." The Mirror has reached out to Jack and Chloe's reps for comment. In March, Chloe opened up about one of their rows, admitting she threw a virtual reality headset at her boyfriend in a rage. She spoke about it on Spread The Juice podcast, explaining she had bought him the headset as a Christmas gift. ‌ She told host Jemma Lucy: "I bought Jack a Meta Quest for Christmas and I threw the Meta Quest at him. I just threw it at him." She revealed her reason for the aggressive moment was simply because she was "angry". At the time, Chloe insisted the pair were still an item. She told her Instagram followers: "For anyone concerned, I am very much still in a relationship. The last few months been very hard for everyone involved." She seemed to be referring to his court case, in which he avoided prison time after winning an appeal against his six week prison sentence. He was initially charged and convicted of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog. ‌ But after the appeal, he was given a further three-month suspended sentence. This was added to his 18-month suspended sentence for a drug-driving offence in March 2024. They then split, with Jack admitting in May they were living apart. He told the Sun: "Chloe and I haven't been in a great place. I'm living at my mum's and she has moved out of the house we lived in and into her own flat. "I don't know what will happen between us. I still love her. I doubt it's over for good. We've been through a hell of a lot in the past couple of years."
