Blast in Syria's Idlib Kills at Least Two, Causes Panic

A powerful explosion shook Syria's northwestern province of Idlib on Thursday, killing at least two people and injuring four others, state media reported. The cause of the blast is still unknown. Residents in the western outskirts of Idlib city said they heard loud explosions, while state news agency SANA described it as 'an explosion of unknown origin near the city.' The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitoring group, said the blast occurred at a base for non-Syrian fighters that included a weapons depot. Thick smoke filled the area, causing panic among local residents. This incident follows a deadly series of explosions in Idlib late last month, which killed at least 12 people and injured more than 100. Those blasts took place at a weapons depot linked to the Uyghur jihadist group Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) in northern Idlib. Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the recent explosions.
