SCR GM presents ‘Employee of theMonth' safety awards to three staffs
VIJAYAWADA: South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager (GM) Arun Kumar Jain presented the General Manager's 'Employee of the Month' Safety Awards for March 2025 to three employees from the Vijayawada Division for their alertness and timely action in preventing unsafe conditions.
The awards were conferred during a virtual safety meeting held at Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad on Monday.
The three award recipients from the Vijayawada Division are Denduluru (Operations Department) Station Superintendent TVMU Maheswar, Rajamahendravaram (Operation Department) Train Managers, K Nathaniel and Lokesh Kumar.
Maheshwar had noticed flames beneath the B-2 coach of Konark Express while it was passing through the section. He halted the train by using signals, enabling staff to rectify the defect and avert a mishap.
K Nathaniel, who observed flames under a wagon of a loaded goods train stationed at Rajamendravaram, promptly informed the station master and extinguished the fire using a fire extinguisher.
The affected bogie was later detached from the train. Lokesh detected smoke from a wagon of a passing goods train at Denduluru. He immediately alerted the loco pilot to stop the train, and upon inspection, identified symptoms of a hot axle. The train was moved at minimal speed to clear the section, and the wagon was detached, preventing a potential accident.

Vijayawada division TDR department gets ISO certification
VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Division's Traction Distribution (TRD) Department has been awarded the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 9001:2015 Quality Management System Certification, making it the first division across the national network to achieve this recognition for its entire TRD unit. The certification, issued by QRO Certifications through Harsha Technologies, Hyderabad, follows a comprehensive audit process assessing service consistency and quality. It covers 22 key TRD locations, including depots, offices, and the central store, acknowledging the department's high standards in maintaining Overhead Equipment (OHE) and power supply systems crucial for electric locomotive operations. RUB gets govt's green light; work set to commence soon
Hyderabad: The Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Level Crossing (LC) Gate-249, which has been pending for a long time, will finally see the light of the day, as the consent was obtained from the Medchal- Malkajgiri Collector recently. According to the sources, for the past several years, the proposed RUB at LC Gate 249 at Turkapally has been lying in the district collector's office for approval and recently, the collector has given the green signal to begin the works. Now the stretch has been dug up and LC Gate on New Bolaram to Turkapally Village main road has been closed and commuters have been verbally urged to take alternate routes. The RUB is sanctioned in lieu of LC No-249 (Turkapally) on the SC-MUE section which is combined work with ten LCs (Sanctioned cost of 10 LCs is Rs 49.50 crore). This will help in strengthening the safety for both road and rail users, facilitate seamless movement of traffic for road users at level crossing gates, said a senior officer, SCR. Murali Krishna, president of Federation of New Bolarum, said, 'Many colonies in Turkapally are cut off due to LC 249 and several motorists are being forced to wait for hours to cross the rail gate every day, as it provides an intermediate connection between the National Highway-44 at Kompally and the Rajiv Rahadari.' Even as several RTIs were filed and many inspections were conducted by the railways as well as the state government, the final nod from the collector was pending, which resulted in delay of the project. The RUBs at this stretch will help in the smooth flow of traffic once they are complete, he added.

'Even Judges Aren't Above Scrutiny': CJI BR Gavai Urges Swift Action On Misconduct

'…the path to rebuilding this trust lies in the swift, decisive, and transparent action taken to address and resolve these issues," said CJI Gavai, addressing the issue of judicial misconduct. The CJI said that every system, no matter how robust, is susceptible to issues of professional misconduct. 'Sadly, there have been instances of corruption and misconduct that have surfaced even within the judiciary. Such occurrences inevitably have a negative impact on public confidence, potentially eroding faith in the integrity of the system as a whole," said Justice Gavai while delivering a powerful address at the UK Supreme Court Roundtable titled 'Maintaining Judicial Legitimacy and Public Confidence". Justice Gavai added that when such instances have come to light in India, the Supreme Court has consistently taken immediate and appropriate measures to address the misconduct. The comments of Justice Gavai hold larger significance as Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court is, in all likelihood, about to face impeachment proceedings. The development comes after Justice Varma was indicted by a Supreme Court-appointed probe panel upon the discovery of a huge sum of burnt cash from his official residence in the national capital. Gavai also used the platform to highlight several proactive steps taken by the Indian judiciary to build public trust. Referring to transparency initiatives, he noted that judges of the Supreme Court have begun voluntarily disclosing their assets. 'Judges, as public functionaries, are accountable to the people," he said. He emphasised the importance of accessibility and public communication, mentioning the live-streaming of Constitution Bench hearings and the e-SCR portal, which offers free access to Supreme Court judgments. 'This initiative greatly benefits law students, researchers, and citizens by enabling one-click access to court rulings," he said. 'There may be criticisms of the collegium system, but any solution must not come at the cost of judicial independence," he stressed.
