Boxing-Taylor holds off Serrano to retain crown in trilogy bout
NEW YORK (Reuters) -Katie Taylor retained her undisputed super lightweight championship on Friday, completing a trilogy sweep against Amanda Serrano on a history-making night atop the first all-women's boxing card at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
The two fighters brought women's boxing to new heights through their fierce rivalry as a sell-out crowd at the world's most famous arena watched the Irishwoman just edge out her opponent.
The judges scored the fight 95-95, 97-93.
Their first meeting at Madison Square Garden three years ago was billed as the biggest fight in women's boxing, as they were the first women to headline a fight at the arena.
Taylor triumphed by judges' decisions in their prior two meetings as well, including a controversial clash in November, where the referee docked Taylor a point for head butts.
Friday's fight on Netflix marked the streaming giant's latest foray into live sports, which experts say has driven subscriber growth after the debut of National Football League games late last year.

It's an issue all over the world… We have stadiums as well, which are covered. So, we'll definitely use these stadiums more in the day," added Infantino. The FIFA president also said the idea that European spectators and clubs were particularly critical was not founded. "We shouldn't say that the opinion of Europe on this is very bad because it's not true. I have been speaking to the teams who came here. They've all been happy to come here. To the fans who came here, they've all been happy to come here," Infantino said. Brazilian great Ronaldo, who was at the event along with other former players, echoed the FIFA president and said the criticisms had been limited. "I just saw two guys doing the critiques about FIFA Club World Cup. One of them, he hates everything else but the Liga," Ronaldo said. "And the other - we respect the opinion, but I think as the president told you about the facts and the numbers and the enthusiasm of the people and the fans and the quality of the games, I think it has been a huge success." With U.S. President Donald Trump set to attend the final, Infantino defended his close relationship to the current administration, saying it was fundamental to organise the mega events. "(Trump) embraced, immediately, the importance of the FIFA Club World Cup. And then, of course, of the World Cup next year. "You cannot even think of organising an event like this, like the Club World Cup… without the full engagement and full support of the government," he said. Leader Pogacar keeps ear on partner's progress in middle of Tour stage
LAVAL, (France): Tadej Pogacar may be concentrating intensely on winning his fourth Tour de France, but in the middle of Saturday's stage eight he was just as focused on how his partner Urska Zigart was performing in the Giro d'Italia Women. Slovenia's golden couple of cycling are engaged to be married and even have a children's book featuring them as the main characters. Reigning Tour champion Pogacar, 26, regained the leader's yellow jersey after winning Friday's stage, and with Saturday's race at a more leisurely pace until the sprint finish, he was kept up to date on Zigart's result by his team. "Today, Urska seventh place at Giro d'Italia stage," UAE Team Emirates told him via their team radio. "And in the General Classification?" Pogacar asked. "Wait, wait, we still don't have info, maybe ninth but we will check when it will be official, we will tell you okay?" his team replied. Zigart actually moved from 10th to eight overall in the Giro after Saturday's penultimate stage, while Pogacar finished safely in the main bunch to remain 54 seconds ahead of his nearest Tour de France challenger Remco Evenepoel. Pogacar and 28-year-old Zigart became engaged in 2021, and at other times in their career it has been easier to keep up to date with one another's successes. In 2020 and 2023 they both became Slovenian National Time Trial champions on the same day.
