'Kantara Chapter 1' promises a divine saga; Rishab Shetty digs deep into Tulu folklore; prequel to explore ancient deities of Karnataka
Rishab Shetty
is all set to return to the big screen with 'Kantara Chapter 1', a highly anticipated prequel to the critically acclaimed 'Kantara'. The film, which recently wrapped up its shoot, is scheduled to release in October 2025.
The original film offered a glimpse into the mystical realm of Panjurli Daiva. According to the sources, the upcoming chapter promises to go deeper into the folklore and sacred traditions of the Tulu region in coastal Karnataka.
Panjurli and
Guliga Daiva
- the two powerful divine spirits
As reported by Bollywood Hungama, 'Kantara Chapter 1' will explore their origins, offering viewers 'a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience rooted in spiritual lore.'
The main story is about the mythology of Panjurli Daiva and Guliga Daiva.
They are two powerful divine spirits central to the Bhuta Kola tradition. Panjurli is seen as a protector and is often represented as a boar-like demigod. Guliga is more fearsome and associated with wrath and retribution.
Bigger scale, bigger pay
According to earlier reports, the actor-director has reportedly received a 25% hike in his remuneration for 'Kantara Chapter 1' compared to the first film.
With tradition at its core and cinematic grandeur on the cards, Kantara Chapter 1 seems all set to deliver a visually rich, emotionally stirring tale rooted in Karnataka's spiritual soil.
