Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page 'nearly got finger bitten off' during filming for TV drama
Joanna concealed "sausage meat" in her palm to encourage the dog to accompany her throughout filming and during a romantic scene where Dora declared her affection for David before sharing a kiss Jip frantically attempted to reach the food in Joanna's grasp, biting her in the process.
Speaking on the August 16 edition of the BBC quiz show Pointless Celebrities she remembered: "I nearly got my finger bitten off by a pug dog during filming of [David Copperfield] because Dora has got this gorgeous little pug called Jip.
"And to get the dog to go everywhere with me, I had to carry sausage meat in my hand but the pug would really go for it." For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter.
She added: "And there was one time when I was sitting on this sofa with David and I think I had to go: 'Oh, I love you, David,' and we had to kiss.
"And the pug was like desperately trying to get into my hand and then bit my finger and you know the way they breathe. So we had this romantic kiss with this pug breathing like this and then biting off my finger.
"And, as ever the professional, I carried on."
David Copperfield was a two-part Christmas special mini-series for the BBC which ran from 1999 until 2000 and was adapted from Charles Dickens' haunting semi-autobiographical tale The Personal History of David Copperfield.
It chronicles David's journey from infancy to adulthood.
As well as almost losing a finger it was a major show for Joanna as she encountered her husband James Thornton, 49, while filming David Copperfield.
The actress said she realised she wanted him to father her future four children – daughters Eva, 12, and Boe, four, and sons Kit, 10, and Noah, nine – after witnessing James form such a strong connection with actor Daniel Radcliffe, then playing a young David Copperfield, who went on to be the star of the Harry Potter movies.
Joanna said: "I first started when I was in David Copperfield one Christmas and I played Dora Spenlow, David's wife.
"And my husband was actually in it and he played Ham Peggotty. And I saw him and Daniel Radcliffe was in it and he was only dinky.
"And James, my husband, had to pick him up and put him on his shoulders and walk along the seashore with him.
"And I said to my mum: 'I want that man to be the father of my children.'"

TV fans predict 'Inbetweeners reunion' after stars tease new project
Fans of The Inbetweeners have been begging for a reunion of the Noughties comedy series since it came to an end in 2010—and some new photos have given everyone fresh hope. Starring Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley, and Blake Harrison, The Inbetweeners became one of Channel 4's most successful shows of its era. Set in suburban southern England, The Inbetweeners focused on the hilarious and painfully awkward love lives (or lack thereof) of four ordinary boys in sixth form college. It ran for three seasons, produced 18 episodes in total, spawned two sequel films, and is still one of the most popular British comedy shows of all time. Such is the extent of its popularity in Britain that fans have begged for a reunion episode for 10 years now, following the release of The Inbetweeners Movie 2 in 2014. So, when one cast member took to Instagram with a cryptic post, it's safe to say he set the comments alight. On his social media, James teased that he and Joe are 'working on something', giving no further details to excited fans. The post was accompanied by a series of pictures of James and Joe, who dressed up in different outfits for a photoshoot and showed fans behind-the-scenes images of the get-together. Naturally, the comments section reacted anything but calmly to the post. MostlyEnders commented, 'Inbetweeners 3?' while Johnoo1992 demanded, 'We need an Inbetweeners reunion'. SkylarRossFelton said they 'couldn't wait' for a potential Inbetweeners 3, while JamesKeeleyy is also 'waiting' not-so patiently. Following the end of The Inbetweeners, stars Joe and James worked together on the sitcom White Gold, which followed a crew of window salesmen in 1980s Essex. White Gold ran for two seasons between 2017 and 2019 before it was axed by the BBC, with James admitting in 2020 he had no idea the show had been cancelled. Some fans who stayed with the lads until White Gold predicted that the window sales comedy would be making a return following the Insta pics, with that being the most recent project James and Joe worked on together. MichaelParkerus was clear about what he wants: 'I don't care if it's good [or bad], I'll watch anything that supports you four getting back together.' Since then, the four stars of The Inbetweeners have all been working on separate things, with the 2019 Fwends Reunited show still the last time any of them worked together. The reunion show was panned by fans, sadly, as people had expected the talk show to be a one-off sequel episode. Out of all the cast, though, work-wise, it looks like James and Joe are the closest, as this is not the first time they have worked on a new project in 2025, with the two teaming up for an Oasis-themed sketch in aid of Comic Relief. The sketch – titled Oasis: The Reunion – followed efforts to get the feuding brothers back on stage together and starred Martin Lewis as an accountant. More Trending Joe revealed last year that he, James, Simon, and Blake have all discussed the possibility of an Inbetweeners comeback, adding that they think it would be a 'nice thing to do'. 'We're all still around; we're all still in each other's lives. We all still like each other, and if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it,' he said. View More » Joe continued: 'I feel like we all still really like each other. We've all been able to go away and get various monkeys off our backs, in terms of things that we felt we needed to do other than The Inbetweeners to prove something to ourselves.' Got a story? Chris Robshaw is forced to invest in top-price security to protect his family after being targeted by a stalker which nearly led him to turn down Strictly
Strictly Come Dancing star Chris Robshaw was forced to invest in top-of-the-range security to keep his family safe from the campaign of harassment by a female stalker over the past year. The former rugby player was one of the 15 celebrities to be announced for the BBC show last week, but it has since emerged he almost turned down the opportunity due to the situation. And now friends of the 39-year-old told the Mail about the toll it has taken on his wife, the opera singer Camilla Kerslake, on her mental health after she has been 'left scared to leave the house on her own with the kids'. Ms Kerslake, 37, shares Hunter, five, and 18-month-old Wilder, with her husband of seven years and a source close to the family said: 'Particularly when she was post-partum, she was petrified she wouldn't be able to outrun this individual. 'Normally she's unbreakable, the backbone of the family, but this has reduced her to a shell of the strong woman we all know. For Chris, watching this has been heartbreaking. 'They have invested in top-of-the-range security systems to keep the family safe.' While the identity of the stalker has not been revealed, it is known that the former Harlequins captain briefly met her twice at work events last year. Instead of asking for presents for her birthday, it can be revealed Ms Kerslake requested security upgrades to their Surrey mansion, which last year she gave OK magazine a guided tour of. The source continued: 'They've talked about the idea of a security guard dog because they love their animals but also Camilla especially, would feel more protected. 'It's heartbreaking that it's come to this but that's how seriously they are taking it. 'This stalker business is no joke. She's destroyed the lives of small business owners, families, and left others thousands of pounds out of pocket. 'The claims she makes are sickening, and some of her victims have been left struggling mentally after their ordeal.' Six months after meeting the woman, Mr Robshaw was then said to have been targeted by the woman, who proceeded to threaten violence and spread false allegations about him and his colleagues, after which he contacted the police. It is reported the woman, who is now on the National Police Wanted List, has fled the country and is being pursued by the police. This year's Strictly cast includes Love Island star Dani Dyer, Geordie Shore's Vicky Pattison, EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal, Game of Thrones star Kristian Nairn, Lioness Karen Carney, Lorraine Showbiz correspondent Ross King and influencer Ellie Goldstein, who made history when she became the first model with Down syndrome to cover British Vogue magazine. Rugby player Chris, Neighbours actor Stefan Dennis, YouTuber George Clarke, Doctor Who actress Alex Kingston, The Apprentice star Tom Skinner and sportsman Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will also be taking to the Strictly ballroom next month. The BBC show has endured its fair share of controversy in recent months, with it alleged earlier this month that BBC had hired a law firm to probe allegations of drug taking by two individuals. One of the stars involved in the drugs probe was also suspected of drinking while working on the show after crew smelt alcohol on their breath. Wynne Evans, 53, who competed on the show in 2024, was also accused of inappropriate behaviour and forced to apologise for making an unacceptable sexual remark on stage at a press event, which led to him resigning from the Strictly tour. In 2023, actress Amanda Abbington, 51, complained about professional dancer Giovanni Pernice, 34, being 'unnecessary, abusive, cruel and mean' during their rehearsals which she said caused her to quit midway through the season. And in the same year, former Love Island contestant Zara McDermott, 28, was left 'incredibly distressed' following her experience in the training room with Graziano Di Prima, 31, who admitted to kicking the documentary maker, resulting in his axing.

Huge BBC show with star presenters surprisingly axed after just one series despite hit ratings
The shock decision has been made despite the show landing 3.2million viewers for the series opener IT'S OVER Huge BBC show with star presenters surprisingly axed after just one series despite hit ratings Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IT was the show that saw former Top Gear hosts Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris get back behind the wheel of a car together - this time searching for a cure to the dreaded mid-life crisis. But I can reveal that Paddy and Chris: Road Trippin' has already been parked after its debut series - with no second outing in the pipeline. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 1 Paddy and Chris: Road Trippin' has already been parked after its debut series - with no second outing in the pipeline Credit: BBC Which is a surprise given that it enjoyed decent viewing figures when it aired on Sunday nights on BBC One last year with a respectable 3.2m tuning in for the series opener. A TV insider said: 'It certainly wouldn't have helped that just a few weeks before the show began on the Beeb, host Chris was slating the corporation following Freddie Flintoff's horror crash while they were filming Top Gear. 'He said that he'd warned show bosses that someone could be killed or seriously injured on the show claiming producers were devising increasingly 'stupid and dangerous' stunts. 'The timing was not great, but by that stage Road Trippin', which saw Chris reunited with Paddy without Freddie, had already been made and was ready to go out on air.' Paddy has always remained relatively tight-lipped about the Top Gear crash that caused horrific injuries to Freddie in December 2022. Freddie, meanwhile, claimed in his Disney+ documentary that the BBC treated him 'like a piece of meat.' It's understood that the BBC haven't entirely closed the door on doing more shows with Paddy and Chris, though there is nothing on the horizon. Yesterday a Beeb spokesman yesterday confirmed: 'Whilst viewers can enjoy all episodes of Road Tripping on BBC iPlayer now, there are currently no plans for any new episodes at the moment.' THE BBC has confirmed The Celebrity Traitors will air in October, three nights a week for three weeks. It will clash with ITV's new series of Big Brother. A similar show, the BBC's Destination X, is currently beating ITV's The Fortune Hotel with double the ratings.
