2026 Golden Globes ceremony date revealed
Hollywood's biggest party officially has a 2026 date.
CBS and the Golden Globes revealed on Thursday that next year's Golden Globe Awards ceremony will happen on Jan. 11, 2026. As previously announced, Nikki Glaser will return as host after her acclaimed appearance as emcee this year.

The 2026 Golden Globes, billed by the group as the 'first major award show of the season,' start at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The event will air live on CBS linear television and stream on Paramount+ in the U.S. for subscribers of the Paramount+ with Showtime tier.
This year's Golden Globes were viewed by roughly 9.3 million people, a slight decrease from the 2023 ceremony, which hit 9.4 million viewers (although that show had the added benefit of honoring blockbusters like Oppenheimer and Barbie). Winners this year included The Brutalist for Best Drama, Emilia Pérez for Best Musical/Comedy, Shogun for Best Drama Series, and Hacks for Best Comedy Series.
Nominations for next year's Golden Globes will be announced on Dec. 8.
The announcement of the Golden Globes date follows a busy week of jockeying for the awards season calendar. Other events newly dated include the Producers Guild Awards (Feb. 28, 2026) and the Screen Actors Guild Awards (March 1, 2026). The Oscars are set for March 15, 2026.

Tonys broadcast hit with sound complaints as viewers beg CBS to ‘turn on the mics'
Viewers tuning into the 78th annual Tony Awards have complained about sound issues affecting the broadcast. The original cast is reuniting to celebrate the hit musical's tenth anniversary on Broadway. Hamilton received a record-breaking 16 Tony nominations in 2016 and ultimately won 11 awards, including Best Musical. Also performing during the main broadcast were the companies of nominated musicals Death Becomes Her, Maybe Happy Ending, Buena Vista Social Club, Floyd Collins, Gypsy, Maybe Happy Ending, Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical, Pirates! The Penzance Musical, Sunset Blvd., Just In Time, and Real Women Have Curves. The first part of this year's ceremony, The Tony Awards: Act One, began streaming promptly at 6:40 p.m. ET on Pluto TV. The national broadcast, hosted by Cynthia Erivo live from Radio City Music Hall, began at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. Succession star Snook took home the evening's first acting award for her expansive, one-woman take on The Picture of Dorian Gray. Paul Tazewell won for Death Becomes Her, marking the first time in 73 years that a costume designer has won an Oscar and a Tony in the same year. He won an Oscar earlier this year for Wicked: Part I. Kara Young also made history later in the evening when she became the second person to win back-to-back Tonys in the featured actress in a play category. She's already made history this year by earning her fourth consecutive acting nomination.

Following a rousing opening to the Oscars in March, where Cynthia Erivo was joined by Wicked co-star Ariana Grande for a medley of the classic musical's hits 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' (from The Wizard of Oz) and 'Defying Gravity,' the Jesus Christ Superstar actress brought the same powerhouse vocals to the first moments of Tony Awards, the 78th edition of which she is hosting live from Radio City Music Hall today. Broadcasting live on CBS and streamer Paramount+, the inaugural moments of the fete began with Erivo backstage getting prodded by various backstage helpers into zhuzhing up her opening act with stunts and gimmicks in order to grab audiences and excite them: There were suggestions to push an assistant down the stairs à la Death Becomes Her (not to worry, there's worker's comp), while Abbott Elementary's Larry Owens advocated for her to just do her famous run in 'Defying Gravity.' And for some reason, Hugh Jackman wanted to know if he could order dozens of trombones? (A decisive no from Erivo on that front.) The Tony winner belted the tune, her powerhouse vocals later accompanied by a white-clad choir that added sweeping gospel touches to the song. As she sang 'It's our stories and our songs that let us soar,' she shouted out Tony nominees like Audra McDonald, Cole Escola and Sarah Snook (who just won Leading Actress for her one-woman role in The Picture of Dorian Gray). The Poker Face actress then descended the stage to the crowd, getting the likes of Kristin Chenoweth and Adam Lambert to contribute vocals to the ballad. The performance came amid the promotional push for the second part to the blockbuster first installment of Jon M. Chu's Wicked. Titled Wicked: For Good and bowing in theaters this Thanksgiving, the continuation will mark the progression of Elphaba's (Erivo) and Glinda's (Grande) story. Transitioning to introduce the awards show, Erivo began in a short monologue: 'There's no place like home, and Broadway has always been mine.' While pointing out first-time nominees like Sadie Sink, Erivo also threw a lighthearted jab highlighting 'an up-and-comer I think you're gonna hear a lot about, George Clooney.' Touting Broadway's 'most financially lucrative year ever,' she said, 'Broadway is officially back — provided we don't run out of cast members from Succession,' which got a big laugh from Snook just moments before the Shiv Roy actress clinched her statuette.
