A Fantastic Four trilogy was originally planned in the '00s, and Reed Richards star Ioan Gruffud was surprised the third movie didn't go ahead because of the success of the first two.
"The mindset was that we were going to do three, and I think the second movie was equally successful as the first and equally enjoyable for the fans," Gruffud told Vulture. "I particularly loved working with Doug Jones [as the Silver Surfer] on that movie, who's just a terrific artist and an expert in the field of movement. If you want to witness somebody bringing a character to life physically, he's just untouchable. So there was definitely that sort of momentum, and the plan was to do three movies, but these decisions are beyond my control."
Gruffud played Reed Richards, AKA Mister Fantastic, in 2005's Fantastic Four and its 2007 follow-up, Rise of the Silver Surfer. Both movies performed well at the box office, but neither received critical acclaim: Fantastic Four has a score of 28% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Rise of the Silver Surfer has a slightly improved 37%.
"As an actor, you almost grieve every part that you've played, and this was no different," he continued. "This was a massive stepping stone in my career, and because this was two movies over several years, the character becomes part of you."
Alongside Gruffud, Jessica Alba played Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Chris Evans was Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Michael Chiklis played Ben Grimm/the Thing. Evans recently reprised his role as Johnny Storm for a cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine as one of the discarded variants the titular duo encounter in the Void.
Now, though, Marvel's First Family have been rebooted again (following 2015's disastrous remake) and made their MCU debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach take on the eponymous quartet.

WWE SummerSlam 2025 seemed to be the perfect setup for the final chapter of the lengthy feud between Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria, and indeed it was. Over the past several months, the two Irish women crafted a compelling friendship-turned-feud that turned Lynch to the dark side and helped elevate Valkyria to new new heights. Lynch defeated Valkyria in a Last Chance Match at Money in the Bank to become just the second women's Intercontinental Champion ever, and at SummerSlam 2025, it was Valkyria's last chance to win back that coveted title. With a No Disqualification, No Countout Stipulation paving the way for some shenanigans in East Rutherford, New Jersey, that's precisely what happened. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Results for Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria Lynch and Valkyria have been the two defining stars of the relatively new Women's Intercontinental Championship, and after WWE SummerSlam, it will be 'The Man' who moves forward as its flagbearer. It was yet another quality match between two stars who've developed fantastic chemistry, but ultimately, Lynch was able to get the win after Bayley's miscalculated interference cost Valkyria the match. Among the key highlights inside MetLife Stadium were: Even with Valkyria losing under controversial circumstances, that's exactly why WWE booked this bout as a 'Last Chance No DQ, No Countout' match. There needed to be a sense of finality to the long-running rivalry between Lynch and Valkyria, but it had to be executed in a way in which the loser was protected. Valkyria's loss at WWE SummerSlam was, in a sense, a new beginning for Bayley, who could be transitioning back to her heel roots after costing Valkyria the match in MetLife Stadium. Of course, Valkyria and Bayley have been intertwined in this Intercontinental title picture for months, and Valkyria appears to be the main reason why 'The Role' model is now going to have even more beef with Valkyria moving forward. It's similar to what Lynch did back in April after WrestleMania 41, and it should be a way to further push Valkyria even when she's out of the title picture. After all, back-to-back marquee feuds with Bayley and Lynch, two of the most accomplished women's stars in WWE history, is a surefire recipe for success. Expect Valkyria and Bayley to continue their rivalry in the months ahead as Lynch moves on to some new challengers in Raw's upper midcard. There are plenty of accomplished and rising women's wrestlers who could conceivably feud with Lynch on Raw. That list includes established talents like Asuka and Kairi Sane while other newer stars, ranging from Raquel Rodriguez to Roxanne Perez to Stephanie Vaquer, could step in as suitable opponents for Lynch as well. As exemplefied by Lynch's feud with Valkyria, she has shown a penchant for working with and elevating new stars. Even though she beat Valkyria at SummerSlam, the latter is certainly better off after their lengthy rivalry than she was beforehand. With SummerSlam 2025 presumably ending their feud, Lynch can once again work with a rising name on Raw and catapult someone else up the card as Bayley and Valkyria splinter off into a singles rivalry.

'The View' co-host describes Harris interview as 'microcosm of everything that's wrong' with Democratic Party
"The View" co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin described former Vice President Kamala Harris' interview with Stephen Colbert as a "microcosm" of everything that's wrong with the Democratic Party after the party lost in 2024. "I was struck by, I'm going to try not be too harsh on this. This interview felt like a microcosm of everything that's wrong with Democrats post-election. I'm going to CBS and this sort of trying to make a point that they fired Stephen Colbert, which many on the left called an attack on democracy, a man who was making $20 million a year, someone I hold in high esteem, but the economics of his show were not working," Griffin said during an appearance on CNN's "Table for Five" on Saturday. CBS announced in July that they would be ending Colbert's late-night show at the end of the next broadcast season, citing financial reasons. However, Colbert's liberal allies believe the cancellation was political, as it came days after he criticized CBS' parent company, Paramount, for settling with President Donald Trump. "He was losing $40 million a year. He was in the Ed Sullivan Theater, which is expensive, to talk about the plight of democracy at CBS, a network that's having its own struggles right now, rather than talking about the economics of the situation and playing to something a shrinking audience that is network television, not realizing it's not where the American voters are," Griffin, an anti-Trump Republican who voted for Harris in 2024, continued. Griffin said Harris decision to appear on Colbert was like "announcing your exploratory committee on the sinking deck of the Titanic." CNN data analyst Harry Enten dismissed Harris' comments during the interview about a broken system. "Recently, I made the decision that I just – for now, I don't want to go back in the system. I think it's broken," Harris told Colbert after he asked about her declining a potential California gubernatorial run. "I just can't possibly believe that someone who was attorney general for a good period of time, a United States senator for a good period of time, and then vice president for four years and then ran for president, all of a sudden believes that the best way to solve it is from being outside the system. Oh, please. Not a chance on God's green earth that that's necessarily the case," Enten said, reacting to Harris' remarks. "What's probably going on is she saw what the polling numbers were, perhaps for her running for governor of California. Yes, she has left open the idea that maybe she could run in 2028 for the Democratic nomination. But I'll tell you Abby, I've looked at those numbers. She would be the weakest front-runner since 1992. So the bottom line is this, she is looking at the numbers. She knows what's cooking. And then all of a sudden, you know what? Actually, this lifelong politician, I want to be outside the system. Give me a break," the CNN data analyst added. Harris announced on Thursday she would be releasing a book on her failed 2024 campaign. Harris, in a video posted to social media on Thursday, announced that her new book, titled "107 Days," will be released in September and will provide details on what she calls "the shortest presidential campaign in modern history." "I believe there's value in sharing what I saw, what I learned, and what I know it will take to move forward," Harris said.
