Fantastic Four's Joseph Quinn Just Confirmed Another Villain Who's Joining Galactus, And I Can't Wait For This Showdown In First Steps

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Following in the footsteps of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, July's The Fantastic Four: First Steps will see Marvel's First Family forced to contend with the cosmic entity known as Galactus. Between the Devourer of Worlds and his herald Silver Surfer, played in this continuity by Julia Garner, you'd think that'd be enough on Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Thing and Human Torch's plate in First Steps. However, Joseph Quinn, who's bringing Torch, a.k.a. Johnny Storm, to life, has confirmed another villain who's set to appear in the upcoming Marvel movie, and this is a showdown I'm eager to see. While appearing at CCXPMX 25 (via Culture Crave) with his co-stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Quinn let slip during an audience Q&A that we'll be seeing Mole Man in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, though he's obviously playing second fiddle to the (figuratively and literally) big bad who Ralph Ineson is playing. In Quinn's words: We've got a lot of fantastic characters in there. There is also Mole Man, who is wonderful in it, but Galactus is the big bad. He's the big, evil, planet-gobbling space god…He's played brilliantly by the wonderful Ralph [Ineson]. And Silver Surfer, played by the brilliant Julia Garner. We were very lucky to work with her, she's excellent in the film. There are lots of brilliant characters in this film, that's for sure. Although there'd been rumors about Mole Man appearing in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, now we finally have official confirmation about this from one of the actors. So who's playing Mole Man? That's still a mystery, although given what few actors still haven't been identified in First Steps, I think it's probably safe to say Paul Walter Hauser would be the best fit. An extremely loose adaptation of Mole Man was played by Tim Blake Nelson in 2015's Fantastic Four, but it sounds like we can count on a much more faithful take on the character this time around. Mole Man, real name Harvey Elder, was the very first supervillain the Fantastic Four battled in the comics, as he also debuted in 1961's The Fantastic Four #1. Doctor Doom, who appeared four issues later, may have taken the mantle of the team's arch-nemesis, Elder has remained a persistent foe to them over the decades. Between his genius-level intellect, his heightened senses that compensate for his near-blindness, and commanding an army of Moloids, Mole Man is not an enemy to be underestimated, and I can't wait to see what a conflict between him and the MCU's Fantastic Four looks like on the big screen. We don't have that wait too much longer for that to happen, as The Fantastic Four: First Steps opens July 25 on the 2025 movies schedule. After that, the title team will be back in action for Avengers: Doomsday, which is now coming out on December 17, 2026.

Silver Surfer & Fantastic Four Get Marvel Legends Action Figures Highlighting Powers

New Marvel Legends action figures of were revealed by Hasbro Pulse recently. Apart from Sue Storm, Human Torch, the Thing, and Mr Fantastic, fans also got a look at the Silver Surfer Marvel Legends action figure. Releasing on July 25, 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is an introduction to Marvel's first family in the MCU. Hasbro Pulse recently held a Marvel Legends fanstream and unveiled the new action figures for The Fantastic Four: First Steps characters. The figures give a clear look at the powers of Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm, the Thing, and Human Torch. Additionally, the Silver Surfer action figure was also unveiled, with her cosmic surfboard. The Fantastic Four Marvel Legends action figures appear to be modeled in a way to highlight the powers of the characters. Sue Storm's figurine is paired with a forcefield. On the other hand, Mr. Fantastic, played by Pedro Pascal, has his powers depicted through a stretchy arm on his figurine, while the Human Torch has two action figures dedicated to him. While one figure shows Johnny Storm in his suit with two flame add-ons on his hands, the other one shows the superhero with his whole body on fire. Interestingly, the Thing's figurine is displayed in a comic-accurate way, without a shirt. Although the character sports a turtleneck suit in the movie, in the comics, the Thing appears shirtless most of the time. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Hasbro Pulse announced when fans can pre-order these figurines and wrote, 'Revealed during today's #MarvelLegends #Fanstream – the future of #Marvel's First Family has arrived. MarvelLegendSeries Fantastic Four: First Steps wave will be available for pre-order May 30th at 1 pm ET on #HasbroPulse! Each sold separately.'

Jeremy Renner Says He Turned Down ‘Hawkeye' Season 2 Because They Offered ‘Half' the Money

While a second season of Marvel's Hawkeye has yet to be confirmed, Jeremy Renner opened up about why you won't see him in any follow-ups. During an interview for the High Performance app, the actor said that he won't be coming back to the Disney+ series because he was offered 'half' of his pay from the first season. 'They asked me to do Season Two, and they offered me half the money,' said Renner. 'I'm like, 'Well, it's going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.' The 54-year-old actor alluded that the reason behind the lower offer was due to his near-fatal 2023 snowplow accident that crushed more than 30 bones in his body. He continued, 'I'm like, 'I'm sorry? Why? Did you think I'm only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that's why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.'' 'This is not Marvel, mind you. This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It's just the penny pinchers, the accountants,' said the actor, adding, 'I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the insult offer.' The first season of Hawkeye debuted on Disney+ in 2021 and starred Renner alongside Hailee Steinfeld and Florence Pugh. Renner said that while it's 'disheartening that that didn't happen,' he's 'happy to let that go.' He added, 'My body's probably thanking me, time and time again, that I'm not doing it right now. But we'll see.' Best of Rolling Stone The 50 Best 'Saturday Night Live' Characters of All Time Denzel Washington's Movies Ranked, From Worst to Best 70 Greatest Comedies of the 21st Century

Marvel Studios Delays ‘Avengers: Doomsday,' ‘Avengers: Secret Wars'

Marvel fans will have to wait a few extra months to see the upcoming onscreen assembly of superheroes. Marvel Studios and Disney have announced they are pushing back the release dates of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Avengers: Doomsday has been moved back from May 1, 2026, to Dec. 18, 2026, while its follow-up will now arrive in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027 instead of May 7, 2027. Doomsday is currently in production in London and the delay will give directors Joe and Anthony Russo more time to complete the film. 'Fantastic Four: First Steps': Silver Surfer Swoops Into MCU in New Trailer Marvel Studios hasn't revealed much about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday, but they did unveil the cast list during a five-hour livestream event in March. It's an expansive list of actors and characters, too: Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, James Marsden as Cyclops, Paul Rudd as Ant Man, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Wyatt Russel as U.S. Agent, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Danny Ramirez as The Falcon, Winston Duke as M'Baku, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijin as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic. Last summer, Marvel Studios confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom (despite his longtime character Iron Man dying in Avengers: Endgame). 'If we're going to bring Doctor Doom to the screen — he is one of the most complex characters, most entertaining characters in all of fiction,' Joe Russo explained at Comic Con 2024. 'If we're going to do this… then we are going to need the greatest actor in the world.' Downey Jr. added, 'Same mask, new task.' The next Marvel Studios film to hit theaters will be The Fantastic Four: First Steps, out July 25. It will be audiences' first introduction to the new Fantastic Four — Pascal's Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby's Invisible Woman, Quinn's Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach's the Thing. It also stars Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as villain Galactus. Silver Surfer Reportedly Set to Appear in Multiple MCU Projects Including a Solo Film — GeekTyrant

It looks like Marvel Studios may have big cosmic plans for Silver Surfer beyond his upcoming debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps , and we might not be getting just one Surfer, either. According to industry scooper Daniel Richtman: 'There are plans for Silver Surfer [to] be in multiple projects after [ The Fantastic Four: First Steps ] including a solo film.' While he didn't clarify which version of the character will be leading the charge, or when and where he'll appear next, I've been hoping that Silver Surfer would have a long-term, cosmic role in the MCU. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set in a retro-futuristic 1960s-inspired alternate timeline, not the Earth-616 continuity that most MCU projects occupy. Director Matt Shakman has teased that the film pulls inspiration from various eras of Fantastic Four comics, including Earth X, a timeline that features a twist on the traditional Silver Surfer by introducing Shalla-Bal, a female version of the character who takes on the mantle instead of Norrin Radd. Some have called her inclusion 'woke,' despite the fact that Shalla-Bal has been part of Silver Surfer lore for decades. That said, the expectation among many fans is that we'll still see the more well-known version of the character, Norrin Radd, eventually show up in Earth-616, especially if a solo film is truly in development. There's even speculation that Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars could be the next logical places for the Surfer to reappear. Both would offer a grand, multiversal playground where different versions of the character including Shalla-Bal and Norrin Radd could exist side by side. But again, take it all with a grain of cosmic dust. Marvel Studios is known for keeping its long-term plans close to the chest, and with The Fantastic Four set to hit theaters this July, it's unlikely we'll get any official confirmation about spin-offs or future appearances until after the film lands. As for Shakman, he's made it clear his focus is on bringing the Fantastic Four and their world to life by going straight to the source material. 'I'm not so much looking at the other movies,' he explained in a previous interview. 'I'm looking at the comics themselves. I'm a huge comic book fan. I've been a big fan of the Fantastic Four since I was a kid.' 'So going back to Kirby and Lee and Byrne and following all the way up to what's happening — certainly Hickman and Waid and Ryan North, what he's been doing,' he continued. 'I'm trying to figure out who these characters are to me and how to bring them to life in the best possible way, and that's really where I've started and how we've approached it.' Whether it's Shalla-Bal, Norrin Radd, or both, it's exciting to hear that Silver Surfer may finally be getting the spotlight the character deserves in the MCU. If Marvel plays its cards right, the next phase of cosmic storytelling could be one of its most ambitious yet. What are your hopes for Silver Surfer's future in the MCU? Would you be down for a solo film featuring both versions?
