Julia Garner doesn't care what people think about her playing Silver Surfer in 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps.'
While speaking to BBC at the film's London premiere, Garner was asked about the initial response from some fans who thought a man should play the Silver Surfer. The 'Wolf Man' star said she didn't pay much mind to the discourse and focused on delivering her best version of the character.

'I said, 'I'm just going to still do my job,'' she said of the backlash. She also noted that she plays a variation on the character, adding, 'Also, it's Shalla-Bal, so it's different.'
Shalla-Bal, first seen in 'The Silver Surfer' #1 in 1968, is the female counterpart to Norrin Radd, who was featured in 2007's 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.' In that film, the humanoid alien was played by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne.
As the BBC notes, after the first 'Fantastic Four' trailer debuted, the response to Garner's Surfer was overwhelmingly positive. Garner said she was excited to see the hype from fans.
'I was just happy that people are resonating with it, just like any other project,' Garner added. 'I'm grateful to be at this dance, to be completely honest with you.'
Other cast members include Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic; Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, aka the Thing. Ralph Ineson plays Galactus, while Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne and John Malkovich round out the cast.

Anne meets Ukrainian band at Edinburgh Military Tattoo rehearsal

Princess Anne has met performers for this year's Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, including members of a Ukrainian naval band playing for the first time since the full-scale war began. The Princess Royal wore sunglasses and the Tattoo's official tartan as she watched a rehearsal at Redford Barracks in the Scottish capital. She watched international teams perform their displays of military drill, music and dancing ahead of the show's run beginning at Edinburgh Castle later this week. As well as military bands from the UK's armed forces, this year's show will feature performers from the US, Poland and Switzerland. This year will see members of the Centre for Military Music of the Ukrainian Navy make their debut. The Odessa-based orchestra are engaged in rehabilitation projects as well as a number of cultural programmes. This year will also be the first time Adam Lane has stepped in as the Tattoo's creative director. A theatre director by trade, he is also a reservist with the Royal Engineers. The theme for this year – the 75th for the Tattoo – will be 'the heroes who made us' – with each night of the show's run celebrating a significant figure. Mr Lane told the PA news agency: 'The team here are fantastic, they've been making shows for decades, so I'm very confident they're a great team and they'll do a great job.' He added: 'International acts have always been an important component of the show and this year's no different. 'I'm absolutely delighted to welcome our brothers and sisters from Ukraine. 'Like all international acts, they've come to represent the best of their nation. 'We have some extraordinary Ukrainian military music and some Ukrainian cultural dancing as well so I think the audience are going to really enjoy that.'

Billie Eilish's Earliest Release Is Back

Billie Eilish's Don't Smile at Me reenters several U.K. charts amid her sold-out Hit Me Hard and ... More Soft: The Tour, alongside gains for all three of her full-length albums. LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 10: Billie Eilish performs on stage at The O2 Arena on July 10, 2025 in London, England. (Photo byfor Live Nation) Billie Eilish has spent much of July in the United Kingdom, traveling from city to city as part of her massively successful Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour. Her run in the country began in Scotland, and she then headed down to London for half a dozen dates at The O2 Arena, and most recently, she performed in Manchester. All the excitement surrounding her tour has helped Eilish's music climb the charts in the U.K. Eilish first made a name for herself nearly a decade ago with her EP Don't Smile at Me, which dropped when she was just a teenager. The project included her breakout hit "Ocean Eyes," which went viral and turned her into a hot commodity in the music industry. That set reappears on a number of rankings this frame, as everything connected to the singer-songwriter grows in popularity this week. Don't Smile at Me Returns to Several Charts Don't Smile at Me returns to both the Official Albums Streaming and Official Albums charts this time around in the U.K. The short project lands at No. 91 on the former and No. 92 on the all-encompassing list of the most-consumed albums and EPs in the nation. Billie Eilish's Only Album to Miss the Top 10 Don't Smile at Me remains Eilish's only major release to miss the top 10 on the Official Albums chart. Despite the fact that it has now spent almost 250 weeks somewhere on that competitive tally, the set only peaked at No. 12. It did climb all the way to No. 4 on the list of the most-streamed collections in the U.K. Billie Eilish's Albums All Soar In addition to Don't Smile at Me's success, all three of Eilish's full-lengths are also gaining ground. Hit Me Hard and Soft, which is being promoted by the tour, returns to the top 10 on the Official Albums chart, pushing from No. 12 to No. 10. That set remains a top 40 success on every ranking on which it appears. Happier Than Ever and When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, her earlier two studio efforts, also push north, jumping to Nos. 35 and 54, respectively.

What's on Cupid's Mind at Versailles? AI Can Tell You.

Early one midsummer afternoon in the Palace of Versailles' gardens, a pigeon landed effortlessly on a masterpiece of French outdoor sculpture: a 17th-century statue of Apollo on a chariot, pulled by four horses. The statue, made of gilded lead, has stood in a vast fountain at Versailles in the three-plus centuries since Louis XIV was king of France — and it has now entered the digital age via a new feature on the historic site's app: Powered by the tech giant OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, an audio tool lets visitors (on or off site) converse with 20 outdoor statues in three languages. On that summer afternoon, I put the chatbot to the test. I asked Apollo a few obvious questions — who had put him there, what he represented — and received textbook answers, delivered in perfect English by a confident male voice. Then, spotting the pigeon still perched on Apollo's head, I opted for a bolder line of questioning: What if a pigeon took a toilet break on this peerless treasure? 'When pigeons show their affection on my chariot, it's hardly a grand moment. But the caretakers of Versailles are vigilant,' Apollo replied. 'They ensure I remain in shining condition, restoring my brilliance after such interruptions. So no lasting harm from those little birds!' Versailles receives 8.4 million visitors a year, according to France's culture ministry, more than any other French heritage site except the Louvre Museum. Yet 80 percent of them are international tourists, and their average age is 40. So the palace is engaging with OpenAI and other big tech companies with the hope of not just informing visitors, but also luring audiences that are younger and more homegrown. (The New York Times filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against OpenAI for using published work without permission to train its artificial intelligence. OpenAI has denied those claims.)
