Collective efforts needed to ban plastic usage: Minister
Minister for Roads & Buildings, Infrastructure, and Investments BC Janardhan Reddy participated in the campaign.
He led a rally from Kovelakuntla bus stand circle, accompanied by students, teachers and officials from various departments, forming a human chain to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic usage and the benefits of tree plantation.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Reddy emphasised that the government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, was organizing Swachh Divas on the third Saturday of every month with the vision of achieving a 'Swarnandhra by 2047.'
He informed that the theme for July is, 'Ending plastic pollution – avoid non-essential plastics and related pollution.' Awareness campaigns were being conducted across the State as part of this initiative.
He urged that this movement should begin at the grassroots level to make it truly successful.
Highlighting the health hazards of plastic pollution, including the rising cases of cancer due to plastic consumption by cattle and humans alike, the Minister stressed the need for collective efforts to eliminate plastic from homes, villages and towns.
He also announced that the Kovelakuntla gram panchayat would pass a resolution against plastic use, giving shopkeepers one month to switch to alternatives like paper plates, cotton bags and reusable utensils.
Minister Reddy proudly shared the success of his wife BC Indiramma's efforts in transforming nearly 80% of Banaganapalle into a plastic-free zone and called upon Kovelakuntla to emulate the same model.
He appealed to teachers to educate students daily on plastic hazards and encouraged students to influence their families.
'A plastic-free Kovelakuntla is possible only with your cooperation,' he said, urging everyone to segregate waste at home and maintain cleanliness to ensure a healthy, oxygen-rich environment.

'Today, somebody who does not know alphabet says I am a journalist," Reddy said. 'If we ask him, he says I am a social media journalist. He identifies himself as a journalist as if it is his surname." He went on to say that at times, he feels like 'slapping" those who spread false propaganda or display arrogance, but refrains due to the dignity of his position. 'Those who do not follow basic courtesies like respecting seniors sit in the front rows when we conduct press conferences. Some of them show so much arrogance. Sometimes, I feel like slapping them. But, stature and circumstances prevent from doing so," he remarked. Reddy also took aim at political parties that run their own media outlets. While noting that political publications were once used to promote ideologies, he alleged that today, many party-owned media platforms are being used to cover up irregularities, protect personal interests, and defame critics. The Chief Minister urged senior journalists and professional media organisations to draw a clear line between genuine journalists and unqualified individuals posing as digital media reporters. Reddy admitted that his language can sometimes be harsh when addressing political opponents but argued that this is often in response to similar language used against him. He called on the media to introspect and maintain credibility in an era where misinformation can easily spread unchecked online. ‘I sometimes feel like slapping them': Telangana CM slams young journalists, says party-run media 'hurts journalism'
NEW DELHI: Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy found himself at the centre of a political and media storm on Friday after remarks he made about young journalists drew sharp criticism from press bodies and social media users alike. The comments came during the 10th anniversary celebration of Telugu daily Nava Telangana, where he contrasted senior journalists' dedication with what he described as the arrogance and lack of etiquette among younger reporters. "To analyse, they (journalists) keep their health and families at stake. To understand the problems of people, they go to remote areas for days and stay in public to publish their findings," Reddy said, praising senior journalists. He then criticised younger journalists, saying, "Now, young journalists don't even know about those senior journalists. They don't even have the common sense to stand up when those senior journalists come. .. I sometimes feel like slapping them. But circumstances and position come in between." The statement triggered outrage, with many terming it disrespectful and unbecoming of a chief minister. Press associations have demanded a clarification, though Reddy has not issued any formal response. At the same event, the CM also criticised political parties for launching media outlets to serve their interests. "Some parties start political party-owned media to cover up their irregularities, protect their wealth and tarnish the image of those questioning them," he said, adding that such practices hurt journalism. He further alleged that some reporters were essentially political activists and cautioned genuine journalists to differentiate themselves. "Today, somebody who does not know an alphabet says I am a journalist. If we ask him, he says I am a social media journalist. He identifies himself as a journalist," he remarked. Reddy also addressed concerns over the rise of social media-driven misinformation and pointed to recent arrests of influencers who allegedly collaborated with foreign entities, post Operation Sindoor. He praised the historical role of Communists in Andhra Pradesh politics, saying, "They are like salt. You may not see it, but without it, the food has no taste." HC relief in defamation case Meanwhile, the Telangana high hourt quashed a defamation case against Revanth Reddy related to a speech made during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The case was filed by Telangana BJP General Secretary Kasam Venkateshwarlu, who accused Reddy of making false claims that the BJP would scrap the Constitution and abolish reservations if voted to power. The complaint was being heard in the Special Judicial First Class Magistrate (Excise) court, which had earlier summoned Reddy. The Chief Minister challenged the case in the High Court, which had already granted him exemption from personal appearance. On Friday, the court quashed the proceedings altogether, offering Reddy legal relief even as political heat over his recent remarks continues to build.

Telangana CM stresses need for strengthening Congress–Left cooperation
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has underlined the need for further strengthening the cooperation between the Congress and the Left parties as the understanding between the two will help in serving the people. The Chief Minister recalled the role played by the Communists in helping the Congress come to power in the past as well as present and said that the coordination should continue in future too. He was speaking at the anniversary celebrations of Nava Telangana Telugu daily, which is backed by CPI (Marxist), in Hyderabad on Friday (August 1, 2025). Newspapers worked for forging unity among the people in the struggle for independence. The dailies backed by the Left parties especially strove to create awareness among the people on social evils/stigmas. Only a few newspapers stood by the side of the people and Nava Telangana was one among them. 'Political parties of the yesteryears used dailies to spread their ideology,' he recalled. However, Mr. Reddy expressed concern that newspapers, those launched with political motivation in particular, were working to protect their monetary interests as well as hide the mistakes of the parties promoting them. 'People should keenly observe the behaviour of some political dailies which are trying to influence them in the garb of journalism,' he said. Added to this was the influence of the social media allowing unqualified people to masquerade as journalists. 'The time has come when genuine journalists are forced to define the meaning of journalism holding seminars,' he said. He recalled how senior leaders used to gather information from journalists on relevant subjects in the past before holding press meets. 'The situation has changed now as political parties are influencing the content. Conspiracies are being launched to dilute journalism field,' he lamented adding that journalists, like political leaders, were fast losing the confidence of the people. The time has come to draw a 'Lakshman Rekha' to separate genuine journalists from those masquerading as journalists, or else the situation was likely to pose a threat to the nation, he said. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Advisor to Government Vem Narender Reddy were among present.
