CHP launches statewide Maximum Enforcement Period this weekend
(FOX40.COM) — The California Highway Patrol will launch a statewide Maximum Enforcement Period, beginning Saturday.

CHP said officers will focus on drivers who are speeding from 6 a.m. on Saturday to 5:59 a.m. on Sunday.
This comes with the Speed Prevention Campaign, as officers plan on increasing patrols and concentrating on drivers who are endangering lives. CHP said its goal is to save lives by lowering unsafe speeds.
According to officials, unsafe speeds are a significant factor in nearly 30% of statewide crashes.
CHP's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System showed 2024 data that consisted of more than 116,000 crashes being a direct result of unsafe speed. The result of those crashes killed nearly 500 victims and injured over 48,000 people.

CHP officers issued almost 243,000 citations for speed-related violations in 2025, including:
More than 47,000 citations for speeds over 100 mph
Nearly 183,000 citations for exceeding 65 mph
Over 12,000 for driving too fast for the current road or weather conditions
CHP said that the officers operating the specially marked patrol vehicles have issued over 2,700 speeding citations to date.
CHP is reminding drivers to make safe choices when they're behind the wheel.

Solo vehicle rollover crash injures five people, including three children, CHP says
Three children were seriously injured in a solo vehicle crash in Merced County. The California Highway Patrol said the overturned Toyota Corolla happened at 8:30 p.m. on eastbound Highway 152, near I-5. Officers determined the vehicle was traveling eastbound 152, attempting to take the northbound I-5 connector ramp, but for unknown reasons was unable to negotiate the curve in the ramp and overturned into a dirt embankment, Sgt. Adrian Lopez said. Passers-by tried to help before officers and EMS arrived. The three children — ages 5 to 10 — were not wearing a seat belt and two were possibly ejected, Lopez said. The driver had major injuries and the passenger had moderate injuries, Lopez said. The three children were airlifted to Valley Children's Hospital in Madera. Their conditions are unknown. Alcohol and drugs are not a factor, Lopez said.
