'E! News' to end its daily TV show after more than 30 years on the air
It's the end of an era.
E! News, the show that began reporting on entertainment the same month that Nirvana dropped its iconic song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and moviegoers were being scared silly with Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, will end its nightly program as viewers know it, Entertainment Weekly has learned.
The show's final episode is set for Sept. 25. Currently hosted by Keltie Knight and Justin Sylvester, it airs Monday through Thursday at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
About 20 employees who work on the series now were told about the change on Thursday, according to Deadline. Some of them are expected to be offered different positions at the company.
If this feels like déjà vu, that's because the cable show signed off before, during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, an E! network spokesperson confirmed to EW that the show had been canceled because of financial issues caused by the pandemic. It was revived, however, in 2022.
Over the years, the show has been hosted by the likes of Ryan Seacrest, Giuliana Rancic, Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, Jason Kennedy, Catt Sadler, Steve Kmetko, Maria Menounos, and more. It has covered general entertainment news, focusing on red carpet looks, movie premieres, celebrity interviews, and coverage of the royal family.The brand still isn't going away completely. Instead, E! will focus on updating its digital content and social media channels throughout the day.
On the channel, original shows such as Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour and Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind aren't going anywhere.
The move comes amid an already changing late-night television landscape. Last week, host Stephen Colbert explained that his The Late Show With Stephen Colbert would be departing the airwaves — and so would the franchise. The CBS talk show premiered in 1993, when it was first hosted by David Letterman. The final episode is set for May.

Zendaya and fiancé Tom Holland reunite to walk dogs ahead of ‘Spider-Man' filming
Zendaya and Tom Holland have been reunited after weeks of separate work obligations. The couple were photographed by the British tabloid The Sun enjoying some downtime strolling through London's Richmond Park with their dogs. Stephen Colbert to play late-night host on CBS' 'Elsbeth' after 'Late Show' cancellation
"The Late Show" may be ending, but Stephen Colbert has already booked another late-night role — sort of. The comedian, 61, will play a late-night host in an upcoming Season 3 episode of the CBS dramedy "Elsbeth," sources say. The show, a spinoff of "The Good Wife," stars Carrie Preston as an attorney and de facto detective. CBS declined to comment. The news was first reported by Vulture. Colbert's appearance as a guest star on another CBS show will be notable in the wake of the network's controversial decision to cancel "The Late Show." But even before that shock news was announced, Colbert expressed interest in popping up on "Elsbeth" — ideally, as a dead body. While speaking to "Elsbeth" star Wendell Pierce on "The Late Show" in February, Colbert playfully asked, "Will you talk to somebody over there? Because I keep asking CBS, I want to be a corpse on one of these shows." He joked, "I want to be the body that's found behind the pile of lettuce boxes." Pierce assured Colbert he could "make that happen." "Elsbeth" will return for its third season on Oct. 12. Numerous other stars have had guest roles on the series, including Jane Krakowski, Retta, Rob Riggle, Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Keegan-Michael Key, Alan Ruck and Laurie Metcalf. Colbert's "Late Show" will end in May 2026, he announced July 17. In recent years, he also had a voice role in the animated film "Despicable Me 4" and appeared in one episode of the sitcom "Girls5eva" as a fictional songwriter. Before "The Late Show," Colbert flexed his acting chops every night on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report," on which he played a fictional conservative pundit, also named Stephen Colbert. Colbert has not said what he might do next after "The Late Show." But while interviewing comedians Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers late last month, he alluded to the possibility of starting his own podcast.
