Maruti Baleno crash-tested under BNCAP: Here's how this Altroz rival fared
Maruti Suzuki's popular premium hatchback, Baleno, has received a four-star safety rating for adult occupant protection and three stars for child occupant protection in the latest Bharat NCAP crash tests. The ratings apply across all variants of the Baleno, though there are slight differences in scores based on the number of airbags offered.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno BNCAP safety ratings explained
Two versions of the Baleno were tested: one with six airbags and another with two. The variant equipped with six airbags scored 26.52 out of 32 points for adult occupant safety, while the two-airbag version received 24.04 points. Interestingly, both versions scored an identical 34.81 out of 49 in child occupant protection.

In frontal crash tests, both versions managed 11.54 out of 16 points. However, the side impact results showed a slight variation: the two-airbag managed 12.50/16. The other one scored 14.99 out of 16 in the same side impact test.
In the child safety tests, the Baleno scored 16.81 out of 24 for how well it protected child dummies during crashes. The overall safety score for child occupants was 34.81 out of 49. In the test for an 18-month-old child using a rear-facing seat, the car scored 7.17 in the front crash and 4 in the side crash. For a 3-year-old using a forward-facing seat, the scores were 1.63 in the front crash and 4 in the side crash.
This marks the Baleno as the second Maruti model to be tested under Bharat NCAP, alongside the Dzire, which scored a five-star rating. Standard safety features in the Baleno include two airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, and ISOFIX mounts. Higher trims like the Zeta and Alpha come equipped with six airbags, which contributed to their stronger showing in adult occupant protection.
