Kody Clemens homers with dad Roger looking on, Twins beat Rays 4-2 to stop Rays' 6-game win streak

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Kody Clemens hit his fifth home run of the season, with father Roger Clemens watching from the stands, and the Minnesota Twins beat Tampa Bay 4-2 Tuesday night to stop the Rays' season-high, six-game winning streak.
A 29-year-old son of the seven-time Cy Young Award winner, Kody Clemens extended his hitting streak to a career-high eight games when he homered off leading off the second against Taj Bradley (4-4).
Joe Ryan (5-2) won his fourth straight decision, allowing one run and five hits in six innings. Jhoan Duran worked around a walk in the ninth for his ninth save in 10 chances, throwing six of 21 pitches 100 mph or higher.
Carlos Correa had three hits for the Twins, who went ahead on Brooks Lee's first-inning sacrifice fly. Lee hit into a run-scoring forceout in the sixth and Kameron Misner had a run-scoring groundout in the seventh.
Bradley (4-4) allowed three runs — two earned — and five hits in seven innings, matching his season high.
A crowd of 10,046 was the Rays' 33rd sellout in 36 games at Steinbrenner Field, the Rays' temporary home this season. Tampa Bay, which dropped back to .500 at 27-27, is 17-19 at home going into Wednesday's finale of a nine-game homestand

Tampa Bay Rays Make Massive Move In MLB Power Rankings

Tampa Bay Rays Make Massive Move In MLB Power Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Winning at home has been an issue for the Tampa Bay Rays, yet they've found a level of success on the road. It makes some sense as the Rays are playing at George M. Steinbrenner Field, a minor-league park, this season due to Tropicana Field's damage. Advertisement Well, Tampa Bay has been showing signs of life lately. Their improved play has been noticed by The Athletic, which has the Rays sitting at the No. 14 position in the latest MLB Power Rankings. Who has been a major cog in the Rays' improved play? First baseman Jonathan Aranda should get a bunch of credit. He's even getting attention for a possible spot in this summer's All-Star Game. Jonathan Aranda keeps showing up day after day for the Rays in a good way Aranda currently ranks eighth in MLB in wRC+. Using that as a demarcation point, Aranda is the fourth-best hitter in the American League right now. He's hitting at a .326 clip with seven home runs and 32 RBI. Aranda has a .508 slugging percentage and an OPS of .923. Advertisement After playing a few different positions in his career, Aranda seems to be making first base his home these days. Giving him a steady role in the everyday lineup can keep him focused on his fielding and hitting work on a regular basis. Starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen has anchored the Tampa Bay pitching staff. He's got a 5-4 record with a 2.14 ERA in 12 starts. Overall, the Rays' starting pitchers have put together a tidy team ERA, good enough to land in the top 10 in MLB. Now, the focus is on whether the Rays can remain competitive in the American League East all season long, Time will tell. If Aranda and Rasmussen can continue with solid contributions, don't be surprised if the Rays end up landing a wild card spot. St. Petersburg approves $5 million more for Tropicana Field repairs

ST. PETERSBURG — More money is flowing to Tropicana Field as the city is working toward getting the Tampa Bay Rays' home ready in time for opening day 2026. The City Council on Thursday unanimously approved about $5.3 million more for repairs and expenses to help make that happen. That's a total of $38.5 million approved to date. The total cost of the project, some of which will be covered by insurance, is still on track to cost around $56 million, city officials said. The Rays are under contract to play at the Trop through the end of 2028, a year later than expected after Hurricane Milton ripped the roof off. Under that agreement, St. Petersburg is obligated to repair the Trop. The Rays are playing at the New York Yankees spring training stadium, Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, in the meantime. The first $1.67 million approved is for more waterproofing and remediation through Dec. 31, when the roof is expected to be completed. That includes daily maintenance heading into the rainy season: extracting standing water, monitoring and maintaining leak diverters and collection basins and cleaning and sanitizing affected areas. That money will also pay for about 5,000 ceiling tiles to separate air conditioned and non-air conditioned spaces, plus cleaning, sealing and covering the lower level seats. Another $2.35 million will go toward repairing and replacing storm damaged metal wall panels inside and outside the stadium. Once the roof is in place, contractors Hennessy and AECOM Hunt will work on lighting, catwalk electric and lightning protection, audio and video equipment, mechanical electrical plumping, fire protection and security; playing field equipment and architectural finishes. The council also approved $284,000 for architectural and engineering plans for non-roof repairs, including mechanical, plumbing and structural engineering for rooms, playing fields and other repairs. The city is also picking up the tab for security costs at the Trop while it is under repair. City officials said that's a typical practice when the city assumes control of a construction site. The council approved $800,000 for all labor, material, training and equipment to guard the Trop through Feb. 28, 2026. Major League Baseball Rob Manfred said Wednesday that the league officials 'remain optimistic' that the Trop will be ready for or near opening day. The Rays could open the 2026 season on the road to allow for more time to get repairs done. The big wild card, he said, is delays caused by hurricane season. The council approved spending $22.5 million on a new roof in April. Consternation over what to do about the Trop happened while a deal to build a new stadium was falling apart. Agreements governing the stadium deal expired March 31. Despite that delay, city officials say they can get the dome ready for next season. Beth Herendeen, managing director for city development, said on May 20 that 50% of the roof material has been made in Germany with the remainder done within the next 30 days. She said the material will be shipped to China for assembly and the city expects to receive the first shipment in August. Times staff writer Marc Topkin contributed to this report. Paul Skenes to Red Sox? Insane Trade Thought Pushed by MLB Network Host

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Last year's National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes, the 2023 No. 1 overall draft pick, continues to pitch at a Cy Young Award-worthy level, but his talents are seemingly being wasted on the Pittsburgh Pirates. After finishing 10 games under .500 last season, 17 games out in last place in the NL Central, the Pirates are even worse this year — already 15 1/2 games behind the division-leading Chicago Cubs and 13 games under .500 with 100 games remaining. PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA - JUNE 4: Paul Skenes #30 of the Pittsburgh Pirates looks on during batting practice before the game against the Houston Astros at PNC Park on June 4, 2025 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA - JUNE 4: Paul Skenes #30 of the Pittsburgh Pirates looks on during batting practice before the game against the Houston Astros at PNC Park on June 4, 2025 in Pittsburgh, the same time, Skenes leads the National League in pitcher WAR at 3.2, WHIP at 0.88, and fewest hits allowed per nine innings with 5.8. His 2.05 ERA is second in the league. Skenes has also been a workhorse, with NL-best figures in games started (13), innings pitched (83 1/3), and complete games, though his league-leading total in the latter category is one. Yet with the Pirates, Skenes this year has a losing record of 4-6. The Pirates have lost eight of his 13 starts. In fact, in nine of his starts, Skenes has pitched at least six innings while allowing two or fewer earned runs. The Pirates record in those games is 4-5. With all of that in mind, MLB Network studio host Greg Amsinger threw out a wild idea. "So every fifth day we're going watch Paul Skenes shove and the Pirates lose 1-0 or 2-0. We're going to do that every fifth day?" Amsinger asked his co-hosts, former players Dan PLesac and Harold Reynolds, on a Wednesday broadcast. Then he pitched his trade idea. "If Paul Skenes were traded to the Boston Red Sox for Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, and Kristian Campbell, would you do it if you were the Pirates?" More MLB: Pirates Owner Wasting Paul Skenes Era, 'Should be Embarrassed,' MLB Analyst Says Mayer, Anthony and Campbell are known as the "Big Three" among Red Sox fans, as the organization's three top prospects. Mayer and Campbell have already made it to the Boston big league roster. Anthony is the No. 1 prospect in baseball, though for some reason the Red Sox have kept him at Triple-A Worcester all season so far. Together, that big three, along with several other highly-rated Red Sox prospects, represent the future of the Boston organization. Plesac, who pitched 18 seasons in MLB for six different teams, wasn't having it. "I'm not into trading him," Plesac said, referring to Skenes. "He's the identity of the Pirates. He's the one attraction that you have to get you to go out and watch a Pirate game." The MLB Network hosts did not address, however, the Red Sox's perspective on the proposed trade. Would the Red Sox sell their future for Skenes, even with four years of team control for the 22-year-old prodigy? It should be noted the Red Sox already have a starting pitcher who this season has been arguably as good as Skenes, or at least very close to his level. Has left-hander Garret Crochet fared better with Boston than Skenes with Pittsburgh? Crochet has a better ERA than Skenes at 1.98, and he leads the American League in strikeouts with 101 (Skenes has fanned 85). Crochet has also started 13 games, and thrown a league-leading 82 innings. His won-loss record with the Red Sox is 5-4. In his seven starts of at least six innings, allowing two runs or fewer, the Red Sox are 5-2. More MLB: Red Sox Frustrate Fans With Call-Up of Triple-A Outfielder Not Named Roman Anthony
